Horse Sense and the Human Heart by Adele von Rust McCormick,Marlena Deborah McCormick Pdf
Can horses really teach us to be better human beings? In this groundbreaking work, you will discover that the answer is a resounding "Yes". While working with severely disturbed youths, therapists Adele and Deborah McCormick discovered the best healers were their herd of Peruvian Paso horses. Through their work with horses, the McCormicks' patients were initiated into the hidden world of animal energy and instinct, and found a safe and natural way to learn about their own dualistic natures. Patients learned to tap into their primal "animal" mind and energies and apply them toward more creative and responsible living. What took days or months to uncover in an office setting took onyl minutes when patients were on a horse. You will read case after fascinating case of people discarded by society and the psychiatric community whose lives were turned around by the intuitive guidance and friendship of their equine therapists. The book for which people have been asking Monty Roberts for years, Join-Up describes how what he has learnt from horses can play an important role in improving our lives. Monty Roberts has been travelling all over the world, demonstrating his work for the last ten years. Public reaction to him, and to his books, has confirmed his belief that the concepts of Join-Up can help humans develop both business and personal communication. For many years corporations have been sending their managers to Monty Roberts' demonstrations, and the messages of non-violence, of listening, and of the importance of trust have been successfully developed in many of the companies. But Monty and Pat Roberts have also fostered over forty children and have seen how the same concepts of mutual agreement and trust can be used with great benefits in a family environment. Join-Up is full of stories of those who have found, through Monty Roberts, the strength to face their problems whatever they may be. Some are heart-wrenching, some are funny, all are illuminating. Join-Up is full of new stories about some of the horses he has worked with, and from whom he has learnt what he believes. The Man Who Listens To Ho
Horses perceive the world differently from humans because their senses developed differently through evolution to cope with different ways of living and surviving. Horses are essentially prey/flight animals. The horse's senses therefore determine how the world appears to him and how he reacts to it. As the horse's perception and understanding are v
A History of Horses Told by Horses by H. A. Levin Pdf
On a peaceful country morning, a horse named Bess approaches and connects telepathically with the author. At the mare's urging, the author agrees to write A History of Horses Told by Horses, in which equines trace the historical links between humans and horses, express their thoughts on the impact that humans have on the Earth, and state their mission. The horses' hopes are to partner with compassionate people, especially women, to redirect the course of humanity in a positive way. The story-telling horses exist. The places and people are real. The multi-layered message relates to the human condition on a personal level as well as on a global scale. Equine history spans more than 55 million years and five continents. Horses desire to form meaningful relationships with people. Each horse's connection with a human is unique. A horse's assistance is tailored to a person's individual needs.
The Heart of the Horse, Healing the Heart of the Human by Kaarin "Nikki" Bell Theisinger Pdf
The Horse Connection Interactive Riding and Assisted Riding For Children & "Adult Children At Heart! " The Inspiration for "Horse Connection" was inspired by my love of horses & growing up in a Circus Family that encouraged my love of animals, especially Horses! This "Connection" with Horses was encouraged by my parents and early in my life my grandparents who grew up with farm animals. By age seven, my Dad and Grandpa Bell, went to the local "glue factory (this was 1952 and Horses then were sent to Slaugther Houses when they were old or crippled. This book focuses on what science has learned about horses and horse-human interaction. It is not a book about riding, diet, illness, shoeing or showing. It is more about how horses work than about how to work them, more about what they want to do than what you can make them do. In my time with my horse and mule, I''ve heard a lot of stuff again and again, stuff that just didn''t seem right to me. In search of the truth, I did what everyone else does: I talked to other riders, hired trainers, attended clinics, bought books, subscribed to magazines, explored websites. These sources all seemed to agree with each other, but things still didn''t seem right. So I turned to science, in hopes that there would be some better information here. I was surprised by what I found. Science has much to say about horses, but it tells a very different story than does our dogma about horses. After reading about 1,500 studies and writing this book, I can now say that very little of what the world believes about horses turns out to be true. Science doesn''t always support our intuitions or dogma. For instance, there is dogma that "horses need leadership". In fact, they don''t have leaders, don''t understand leadership as humans do, and get along just fine without it. Leadership in horses comes about through "collective decision making", the same principle used by fish and birds in their schools and flocks. Science also challenges our notions of "respect", "natural horsemanship", "dominance" and "partnership". And no scientist will ever claim that imprinting takes place in foals - or any other mammal. We have let conventional explanations confuse us. For instance, horses don''t "move away from pressure". A draft horse will happily pull a cart, leaning into its harness. Horses move away from discomfort and pain. This makes them no different than any other animal capable of movement. Horses don''t respect humans. They are comfortable maintaining a very small personal space when with those they trust, and humans confuse this natural crowding with a lack of respect. Horses can be punished when they approach, but this doesn''t build a bond -- it tears it down. We confuse respect with fear. Horses have no idea that they are "prey animals". They band together because they feel comfort when near those they know, and insecure when they are alone. This makes them no different than goldfish or starlings. Our everyday interactions with our horse are confused by the dogma of trainers, clinicians, books, and magazines. For example, efforts in the round pen do not change your horse''s behavior outside the round pen: whatever is learned in the round pen stays in the round pen. Underlying the magical power of horse whisperers is this simple fact: horses don''t like to be chased. Our efforts to train a horse are full of bumbling. Few seem to know that the way to your horse''s heart is through his stomach, not his withers, and that carrots work far better than scratches or rubbing as a reward in training. Few seem to know that very mild punishment seems quicker at changing behavior, and reward is better at maintaining behavior. Few seem to understand the importance of timing in delivering rewards. This book addresses current horse dogma using experimental horse research, ethological studies of feral horses, comparative biology, social psychology, and common sense. It covers many topics: Pleasure, pain, learning, social behavior, personality, communication, mood and emotion, flight, fight, freeze, early learning and imprinting, mental illness, learned helplessness, vision, hearing, smell, and touch. I hope that I can bring together the neglected literature of equine science with the good intentions of the horse world, and serve horses and their humans better than we now do with good intentions alone. My apologies for the price of the paperback, but the book turned out to be over 600 pages!
Hope . . . From the Heart of Horses by Kathy Pike Pdf
“I’m thrilled to recommend this book as one of the finest narratives on what horses have to teach people about life, love, power, and connection.” —Linda Kohanov, author, The Tao of Equus, from her Foreword Hope . . . From the Heart of Horses explores and celebrates the relationship and bond possible between horses and humans. Each chapter offers a life lesson about trusting one’s instincts, honestly addressing emotions, achieving clarity in communications, and releasing negative thoughts. Because survival depends on being highly tuned to the thoughts and feelings of others, horses sense human intentions rather than what a person offers in facial expressions, which creates a remarkable effect on the relationship between these two distinctly different species. Among the moving stories the author relates are a horse named Hope who teaches the difference between hope and faith; an abused horse’s background bringing up old memories and helping the author to move on; a young Olympic equestrienne hopeful who discovers and reaffirms her self-esteem; and a corporate training session in which one participant achieves great success merely by being honest about her fears. As you see how these people grow deeper into themselves as they learn the horse’s way, you, too, will be inspired to explore and apply the deep and everlasting connection and communication between horses and humans.

From the author of the #1 bestseller The Man Who Listens to Horses, a book for all of us seeking to strengthen our human relationships "Monty Roberts will make you marvel."—The New York Times Book Review In The Man Who Listens to Horses, Monty Roberts revealed the depth of communication possible between human and horse. Touching the hearts of more than four million readers worldwide, that memoir—which spent more than a year at the top of The New York Times bestseller list—described his discovery of the "language" of horses and the dramatic effectiveness of removing violence from their training. Now, the world's most famous horse gentler demonstrates how his revolutionary Join-Up technique can be used not just for horses, but as a model for how to strengthen human relationships. With vivid, often deeply moving anecdotes, Roberts shows how the lessons learned from the thousands of horses he has known can provide effective guidelines for improving the quality of our communication with one another—from learning to "read" each other effectively, to creative fear-free environments, and, most importantly, teaching belief in the power of gentleness and trust.
When Candida Baker left her city lifestyle and high-profile job to live in the hills behind Byron Bay, little did she realise this was the first step on a journey of self-discovery - through her natural horsemanship, photography and writing - to an enhanced sense of spiritual and psychic connection with the animal world. Told through a series of true stories, at its essence The Heart of a Horse is about learning to 'listen' with all our senses. Using her lifelong love of horses as the main conduit for bridging the gap between our thought processes and intuition, Candida describes the magic that happens when we keep an open mind about the idea of communication.
