It's the size of a small city.It has everything a small city would have like two hospitals and restaurants and shopping malls all over the ship. Captain Braymer also has a romantic attachment to a young lady by the name of Lieutenant Heather Courtney who is an Officers Aid.They have a few out of the ordinary experiences that they do not forget any time soon. And our new friends the Powleens have advanced us centuries ahead of our time. They traded us for all kinds of their gadgetrÝs and even some of their food. That's what they do go all over the Galaxy looking for friends and ultimate knowledge and trade with everyone they can find.Commander Braymer also has a mission to do a genesis on Mars that turns out surprisingly good with a few added benefits. One of the benefits was discovering a lot of Martian people and animals in a Noah ark kind of setup that has been frozen for over 100,000 years in life support chambers. They were all brought back to life again. There were many discoveries' not to mention all of the futuristic weapons they find with aircraft all superior to anything at present by anyone. And nobody expected the Martians to have special mental powers like telekinetic and telekinesis and all sorts of mental telepathy powers like mind transference and the power to levitate in the air. Well everything was going pretty smooth until Galactic war breaks out all over the universe and the final Battle happens in our solar system. It was Earth with the Powleen people and also the Martians against the snake looking people called the Arcons and their friends the Thracians who resemble dog like people with sharp claws. There were crashed ships all over our planets and their moons in our solar system. It was the Battle of all Battles. It decided the control of our Galaxy. If you think all of this sounds good wait till you read the book, its action packed from start to finish. I know you will enjoy Moon People Trilogy. It's some of my best work. And don't worry some day you just might see something that resembles "Moon People 3"coming to your local Book store near you. Thank you and God Bless. Dale M.Courtney Author

river woman by Katherena Vermette Pdf

Governor General’s Award–winning Métis poet and acclaimed novelist Katherena Vermette’s second collection, river woman, explores her relationship to nature — its destructive power and beauty, its timelessness, and its place in human history. Award-winning Métis poet and novelist Katherena Vermette’s second book of poetry, river woman, examines and celebrates love as decolonial action. Here love is defined as a force of reclamation and repair in times of trauma, and trauma is understood to exist within all times. The poems are grounded in what feels like an eternal present, documenting moments of clarity that lift the speaker (and reader) out of the illusion of linear experience. This is what we mean when we describe a work of art as being timeless. Like the river they speak to, these poems return again and again to the same source in search of new ways to reconstruct what has been lost. Vermette suggests that it’s through language and the body ― particularly through language as it lives inside the body ― that a fragmented self might resurface as once again whole. This idea of breaking apart and coming back together is woven throughout the collection as the speaker contemplates the ongoing negotiation between the city, the land, and the water, and as she finds herself falling into trust with the ones she loves. Vermette honours the river as a woman ― her destructive power and beauty, her endurance, and her stories. These poems sing from a place where “words / transcend ceremony / into everyday” and “nothing / is inanimate.”

Is Superman Circumcised? by Roy Schwartz Pdf

Superman is the original superhero, an American icon, and arguably the most famous character in the world--and he's Jewish! Introduced in June 1938, the Man of Steel was created by two Jewish teens, Jerry Siegel, the son of immigrants from Eastern Europe, and Joe Shuster, an immigrant. They based their hero's origin story on Moses, his strength on Samson, his mission on the golem, and his nebbish secret identity on themselves. They made him a refugee fleeing catastrophe on the eve of World War II and sent him to tear Nazi tanks apart nearly two years before the US joined the war. In the following decades, Superman's mostly Jewish writers, artists, and editors continued to borrow Jewish motifs for their stories, basing Krypton's past on Genesis and Exodus, its society on Jewish culture, the trial of Lex Luthor on Adolf Eichmann's, and a future holiday celebrating Superman on Passover. A fascinating journey through comic book lore, American history, and Jewish tradition, this book examines the entirety of Superman's career from 1938 to date, and is sure to give readers a newfound appreciation for the Mensch of Steel!

H is for Hummus by Joel Rickett Pdf

H is for Hummus by Joel Rickett and Spencer Wilson - a perfectly middle-class ABC A is for Apple, B is for Bear, C is for Cat... Z is for zzzzzz. Traditional ABC books just don't reflect the busy lives of today's toddlers. Far more useful to learn that A is for Allergy, B is for Babyccino, and C is for Controlled Crying. All the pain and joy of modern parenting is packed into this delightfully silly, beautifully illustrated ABC. From Active Birthing through to Zumba, H is for Hummus is a refreshingly honest read for fans of Go the F**k to Sleep and The Middle Class ABC, as well as sleep-deprived parents everywhere. Joel Rickett is a publisher and a (very) occasional writer. His previous books include How To Avoid Huge Ships and Whitstable Mum in Custard Shortage. He lives in North London (of course), where he's a thoroughly modern parent to two gorgeous, demanding girls. Spencer Wilson is an illustrator and co-founder of the design and animation company Peepshow Collective. He has been working to commission since 1998 in a world of coffee cups and ordered chaos; his work follows this theme with the creation of sketchy ideas and twisted thoughts. He lives in the modern parenting paradise that is Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, with his wife and two girls who never cease to inspire him. www.spencerwilson.co.uk

Ship Ablaze by Ed O'Donnell Pdf

The true story of one of the greatest tragedies in New York history On June 15, 1904, the steamship General Slocum was heading from Manhattan to Long Island Sound when a fire erupted in one of the storage rooms. Faced with an untrained crew, crumbling life jackets, and inaccessible lifeboats, hundreds of terrified passengers--few of which were experienced swimmers--fled into the water. By the time the captain found a safe shore for landing, more than 1000 people had perished. It was New York’s deadliest tragedy prior to September 11, 2001. The only book available on this compelling chapter in the city’s history, Ship Ablaze draws on firsthand accounts to examine why the death toll was so high, how the city responded, and why this event failed to achieve the infamy of the Titanic’s 1912 demise or the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Masterfully capturing both the horror of the event and heroism of men, women, and children aboard the ship as the inferno spread, historian Edward T. O’Donnell brings to life a bygone community while honoring the victims of that forgotten day.

Nine weeks after losing her husband, Charlotte escapes to a wooden motor yacht in New Hampshire, where her shipmates are an aging blue-haired widow, an emotional seventeen-year-old, and the ugliest dog in literature. A genuine bond develops among the three women, as their distinct personalities and paths cross and converge against the backdrop of emotional secrets, abuse, and the wages of old age. Off the boat, Charlotte, an archaeologist, joins a local excavation to uncover an ancient graveyard. Here she can indulge her passion for reconstructing the past, even as she tries to bury her own recent history. She comes to realize, however, that the currents of time are as fluid and persistent as the water that drifts beneath her comforting new home.

Smoke and Mirrors by Deborah Lake Pdf

The Q-ship, an ordinary merchant vessel with concealed guns, came into its own during the First World War, when the Royal Navy to trap and destroy German U-boats. Deborah Lake uses a wide range of primary and secondary source material drawn from archives in the UK, Germany and the USA to tell the compelling story of the Q-ships and their U-boat adversaries. The Q-ship operations themselves will be covered by following the careers of the eight men who won the Victoria Cross on Special Service Operations; and by accounts of German U-boat crews being on the receiving end. No book on Q-ships can avoid the Baralong incident in which a Q-ship's crew allegedly executed the survivors of the German submarine U-27, on 19 August 1915. In a subsequent encounter with U-41, more British atrocities were alleged by the only two German survivors. Revealing extracts from the diary of a Royal Marine who served on board the Baralong are reproduced in the book together with other first-hand accounts. With charge and counter-charge, this incident provides a fascinating story.

Stemming the Tide by National Research Council,Commission on Engineering and Technical Systems,Marine Board,Committee on Ships' Ballast Operations Pdf

The European zebra mussel in the Great Lakes, a toxic Japanese dinoflagellate transferred to Australiaâ€"such biologically and economically harmful stowaways have made it imperative to achieve better management of ballast water in ocean-going vessels. Stemming the Tide examines the introduction of non-indigenous species through ballast water discharge. Ballast is any solid or liquid that is taken aboard ship to achieve more controlled and safer operation. This expert volume: Assesses current national and international approaches to the problem and makes recommendations for U.S. government agencies, the U.S. maritime industry, and the member states of the International Maritime Organization. Appraises technologies for controlling the transfer of organismsâ€"biocides, filtration, heat treatment, and othersâ€"with a view toward developing the most promising methods for shipboard demonstration. Evaluates methods for monitoring the effectiveness of ballast water management in removing unwanted organisms. The book addresses the constraints inherent in ballast water management, notably shipboard ballast treatment and monitoring. Also, the committee outlines efforts to set an acceptable level of risk for species introduction using the techniques of risk analysis. Stemming the Tide will be important to all stakeholders in the issue of unwanted species introduction through ballast discharge: policymakers, port authorities, shippers, ship operators, suppliers to the maritime industry, marine biologists, marine engineers, and environmentalists.

Scrappy by Terri L. Sjodin Pdf

Scrappy \’skra-pē\ adj: Full of fighting spirit—synonymous with having moxie, being feisty, enthusiastic, gutsy, lively, and spunky Maybe you have been told time and time again that if you pay your dues and keep plugging away, you’ll gain enough experience through “the school of hardknocks” to be successful. That might be true. But maybe you want to reach your goals faster. Maybe you want to earn more, beat the odds—and do it with class and style. If so, it’s time to get scrappy. Scrappy people see big problems and come up with big solutions. Or they see ordinary challenges and find a new path to extraordinary results. They’re like the entrepreneur who turned his home into an indoor jungle—complete with waterfalls, tropical birds, and a live baboon—to sell investors on the now famous Rainforest Café restaurant chain. Or the Girl Scout who skipped the usual door-to-door cookie sales and set up a table outside a medical marijuana dispensary, selling 117 boxes in just 2 hours. It can seem like these successes are just one-off acts of ingenuity or isolated flashes of brilliance...but are they? In today’s world you need more than just an occasional burst of creativity. You need a consistent attitude, a proven strategy, and a tactical plan for execution. That’s where Terri Sjodin’s Scrappy can help you, by explaining and demonstrating the unique elements behind any successful scrappy effort. Drawing on research, interviews, and her own personal experience, Sjodin identifies the habits that will help you get into the right mind-set. She shares stories of scrappy tactics that have worked and those that have crashed and burned, in order to provide practical takeaways for achieving your vision, whatever it might be. She explains, for instance... • Why getting scrappy is a choice to play big. • How to cultivate your best ideas. • How to manage risks and bounce back from mistakes and failures. • How to scale a scrappy culture within anyorganization, big or small. As Sjodin puts it, "This is not another book about persistence, although scrappy and persistent make a winning combination. Nothing annoys a persistent person more than a scrappy person who pulls off a classy, unexpected, amazing effort to land the deal, the sale, or the opportunity." Whether you're a sales rep, a job seeker, an entrepreneur with big dreams but a small budget, or a corporate executive aiming for the next level of success, the fastest way to get what you want is to get scrappy.

LSTs, the Ships with the Big Mouth by Homer Haswell Pdf

LSTs: The Ships with the Big Mouth The World War II amphibious war in the Pacific was like no other in history. Dozens of LSTs (landing ships tank) roared at flank speed up onto the beach. The bow doors opened. A ramp dropped down. Within minutes, tanks, bulldozers, trucks, jeeps, and all manner of vehicles were rolling out of the bow and onto the shore. No need for docks or wharves. More than a thousand of these LSTs were built, after the war began, to carry our troops, vehicles, and supplies to the islands of the Pacific. LSTs: The Ships with the Big Mouth is a first-hand report of LST 698 and her largely landlubber crew as she took part in the three biggest Pacific invasions at Leyte Gulf and Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines, and at Okinawa in Japan. Homer Haswell When the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor, the author, Homer Haswell, a recent Wisconsin journalism graduate, left his advertising job in Chicago to join the Navy as a yeoman at Great Lakes, Ill. In May 1944, on graduation from midshipman school at Northwestern in Chicago, he reported to LST 698 in New Orleans. In Ensign Haswell's letters to his wife Fran, he used his "nose for news" to tell her of day-to-day happenings aboard ship. Half a century later, he wove those tales into an historic account of the ship's travels and travails to make an accurate, highly readable story of some of the great but little-known events of World War II. "World War II was one of the great events of the 20th century," Haswell said, "yet many of us are hazy about what really happened." LSTs: The Ships with the Big Mouth adds much to our knowledge of amphibious operations.
