Hybrid Cardiac Imaging for Clinical Decision-Making by Francesco Nudi,Orazio Schillaci,Giuseppe Biondi-Zoccai,Ami E. Iskandrian Pdf

Performing any diagnostic test in medicine is always a matter of trying to get the condition of the patient diagnosed properly with the least effort, exposure, discomfort and at the same time with the lowest possible error probability. Pre-test probability is helpful but often imprecise, effectively overestimating the patient's risk profile. In a broader prevention objective, the phases of a disease, its onset, progression, and complications must be taken into account. The negative predictive value, which is so important, has in turn its main limitation in identifying the healthy patient, that is, the one who does not belong to any cluster of patients in which we would act in terms of prevention. In coronary syndromes, the goal is instead to evaluate coronary heart disease, from mild to more extensive and significant forms. For this purpose, it is necessary to use parameters that investigate different and complementary aspects: stenosis, ischemia, the morphology of the atherosclerotic plaque, metabolic processes, in particular vitality and apoptosis, the presence of inflammatory processes. The possibility, already present thanks to Hybrid Imaging, of 'joining’ exams that study different aspects, will allow the patient to be increasingly characterized not only from a diagnostic point of view but also from a prognostic and personalized therapeutic choice.

Hybrid Cardiac Imaging by Stephan G. Nekolla,Christoph Rischpler Pdf

This clinically oriented book provides an up-to-date review on the various hybrid imaging modalities that may be employed for the purpose of cardiac imaging. After discussion of generic aspects of hybrid imaging, SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and PET/MRI are each considered in depth. In addition, information is provided on upcoming technologies, such as dedicated so-called fast cardiac cameras (CZT detector technology) and novel probes and radiotracers. A wide variety of topics are addressed, including important technological aspects, possible applications, imaging protocols, peculiarities of the available modalities, radiation exposure, and dose reduction. Last but not least, an estimation of the cost efficiency of dedicated and hybrid imaging devices in cardiology is provided and possible scenarios with respect to health care economics are envisioned. Hybrid Cardiac Imaging will be of particular value for nuclear medicine specialists, cardiologists, and radiologists and will also be of interest to medical physicists, medical technicians, and cardiothoracic surgeons.

A complete guide to using multimodal imaging in cardiac practice 4 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW! "In addition to compiling the various imaging modalities used for clinical diagnosis in cardiovascular disease, the book also summarizes the present and future applications of combined imaging modalities for better understanding the underlying pathophysiologic basis of cardiovascular diseases....This book is unique in the way it comprehensively reviews both the current and future applications of multiple imaging modalities."--Doody's Review Service Multimodal Cardiovascular Imaging: Principles and Clinical Applications offers a unique “matrix” approach to help you choose the most appropriate combination of imaging modalities for the management of patients with cardiovascular disease. The book discusses the various options available, how they work, the benefits and drawbacks of each, and what modalities will best work in conjunction with each other for a specific condition. Featuring contributions from more than 60 international authors and enriched by 225 half-tone modality images and 130 full-color illustrations, Multimodal Cardiovascular Imaging: Principles and Clinical Applications is divided into three sections: Section 1 contains chapters that focus on the use of ten specific clinically available diagnostic modalities and their broad application to clinical cardiology. Modalities discussed include: Echocardiography Phonocardiography Myocardial Perfusion SPECT and PET Coronary Angiography Cardiac CT Section 2 includes six chapters that present “visions of the future” for combining multiple diagnostic modalities. They form the foundation for understanding the pathophysiologic basis of clinical cardiovascular conditions using prototypes, simulations, models, and tutorials. Section 3 considers several cardiovascular conditions and how multimodal imaging can provide diagnostic and therapeutic decision support to optimize the clinical care for each of them. Some chapters in this section also include case reports of how clinicians/scientists are using multimodal imaging modalities to improve their clinical therapeutic decision support. Conditions include: Congenital Heart Disease Ischemic Heart Disease Acute Myocardial Infarction Aortic Disease Atrial Fibrillation

Cardiovascular Imaging by Jeroen J. Bax,Christopher M. Kramer,Thomas H. Marwick,William Wijns Pdf

This book is focused on the use of non-invasive imaging in clinical cardiology. Its central theme is the use of different imaging modalities in the routine clinical problems that physicians encounter on a regular basis. Many different clinical issues are discussed, including valvular disease, coronary artery disease, and myocardial and pericardial disease. In these various pathologies, the applications of echocardiography, nuclear imaging, CMR and MSCT are highlighted. The majority of chapters are illustrated with a clinical case study and with moving images, which are contained on the accompanying CD. These case studies offer excellent examples of how to use the imaging modalities in clinical cardiology. Contributors are from Europe, the US and Asia to provide a global perspective. The ESC Education Series This book with its supporting CD is part of the ESC Education Series. The series is designed to provide medical professionals with the latest information about the understanding, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. Where available, management recommendations are based on the established European Guidelines, which encompass the best techniques to use with each cardiac disease. Throughout the series, the leading international opinion leaders have been chosen to edit and contribute to the books. The information is presented in a succinct and accessible format with a clinical focus.

Atlas of Nuclear Cardiology by Vasken Dilsizian,Jagat Narula Pdf

The aim of the 4th edition of the Atlas of Nuclear Cardiology is to provide physicians and students in cardiology, radiology, and nuclear medicine who want the latest information in the field of cardiovascular nuclear medicine up-to-date and comprehensive information on advances in instrumentation, radiotracers, protocols, and clinical studies. Unlike other books that are narrow in their scope of either technology and technique or clinical studies, the 4th edition of the Atlas will present diagnostic algorithms and schematic diagrams integrated with nuclear cardiology procedures generously interspersed with color illustrations to emphasize key concepts in cardiovascular physiology, pathology, and metabolism relevant for the clinical practice of cardiology. The atlas emphasizes today’s most current information, meeting the requirements for those who will be using the book as a reference source for certifying or re-certifying in cardiology, nuclear cardiology, nuclear medicine or radiology. Hybrid PET/CT and SPECT/CT represent new technologies that were introduced recently in clinical medicine and are evolving rapidly with several improvements in instrumentation, imaging procedures as well as in clinical trials that support the expanded role of these technologies in clinical practice. As such, an updated 4th edition of the Atlas is critical in order for the clinicians remain current with the imaging field and maintain their skills. Imaging protocols with the se technologies have to be updated and/or expanded in order to acquire high quality images at a reduced radiation burden to the patient while advancing the application of these techniques for more advanced disease detection. Accordingly, beyond significantly updating the chapters from the 3rd edition, 2 new chapters will be introduced in the 4th edition, which reflects the expanded clinical applications of the technologies in the past 3 years. The new chapters are as follows: "Hybrid SPECT/CT and PET/CT Imaging" and a dedicated chapter on "Radiation Safety and Exposure: Clinical Decision-Making and the Risk-Benefit Ratio". Chapter 7 from the 3rd edition will be deleted. The updated Atlas will serve as a reference source for all cardiologists, radiologists, and nuclear medicine physicians interested in the most up-to-date approaches to noninvasive diagnostic cardiovascular nuclear imaging techniques for the evaluation of patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease as well as non-coronary heart disease. It will also serve as a ready reference textbook for medical students and residents interested in the practice of cardiovascular medicine.
