I Am Proud to Be a Catholic! by Duane Crosland Pdf

In I Am Proud to be a Catholic: What Is Unique About Being a Catholic? Duane Crosland explores the highlights of what is unique about being a Catholic and why a person should be proud to be a Catholic. In asking the average person why they are a Catholic the standard responses are “I was born a Catholic” or “I was raised a Catholic”. These responses indicate a need for a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith and a fuller appreciation for the gift that Jesus Christ gave to all of us. The book hopes to attract the “wavering”, the “fringe”, the “fallen away”, the “coasting” but “committed” and “committed” Catholics - giving them simple reasons as to why a person should be proud to be a Catholic; the book may also attract a person that is not Catholic but is interested in the details of the Catholic faith. A person will gain an enhanced understanding of what it means to be a Catholic with a focus on what is unique about being a Catholic written in easy layman’s terms often supported by biblical quotes.

Hungry Souls by Gerard J. M. van den Aardweg Pdf

After a week of hearing ghostly noises, a man is visited in his home by the spirit of his mother, dead for three decades. She reproaches him for his dissolute life and begs him to have Masses said in her name. Then she lays her hand on his sleeve, leaving an indelible burn mark, and departs... A Lutheran minister, no believer in Purgatory, is the puzzled recipient of repeated visitations from "demons" who come to him seeking prayer, consolation, and refuge in his little German church. But pity for the poor spirits overcomes the man's skepticism, and he marvels at what kind of departed souls could belong to Christ and yet suffer still... Hungry Souls recounts these stories and many others trustworthy, Church-verified accounts of earthly visitations from the dead in Purgatory. Accompanying these accounts are images from the "Museum of Purgatory" in Rome, which contains relics of encounters with the Holy Souls, including numerous evidences of hand prints burned into clothing and books; burn marks that cannot be explained by natural means or duplicated by artificial ones. The U.S. Military and the Catholic Faith: A Comparison by Brandon Schild Pdf

I started this book from a topic that just hit me out of the blue one day while at work in my office. From there, I decided to write a summarized comparison of the Church and the U.S. Military and share it with others. This was written in hopes that it could be used as an evangelization book. This little book could possibly be used to help support some belief questions as well. Which could hopefully be used as an apologetic tool as well. Please forgive me if any errors seemed to be found within this piece of work. As much as I tried to make this to be as perfect as possible, I know it won’t be, but we all must try to do our best at what we can do. As Jesus states, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt. 5:48).

The Catholic Church and Conversion by G. K. Chesterton Pdf

In this book, Chesterton's brilliance as a writer and thinker again shine through as he explains his understanding of Catholicism and the Catholic Church and how its appeal to reason and truth eventually won him over. For Chesterton, two essentials lay at the heart of conversion, and without these, a man misses the point of it all. He describes these in his own words: ?One is that he believes it to be solid objective truth, which is true whether he likes it or not; and the other is that he seeks liberation from his sins."" That is why Chesterton became a Catholic, and what he describes in his unique and colorful way in this book.

Why I Am a Catholic by Garry Wills Pdf

In this provocative work, which could not be timelier, Garry Wills, one of our country's most noted writers and historians, offers a powerful statement of his Catholic faith. Beginning with a reflection on his early experience of that faith as a child and later as a Jesuit seminarian, Wills reveals the importance of Catholicism in his own life. He goes on to challenge, in clear and forceful terms, the claim that criticism or reform of the papacy is an assault on the faith itself. For Wills, a Catholic can be both loyal and critical, a loving child who stays with his father even if the parent is wrong. Wills turns outward from his personal experiences to present a sweeping narrative covering two thousand years of church history, revealing that the papacy, far from being an unchanging institution, has been transformed dramatically over the millennia -- and can be reimagined in the future. At a time when the church faces one of its most difficult crises, Garry Wills offers an important and compelling entrée into the discussion of the church's past -- and its future. Intellectually brisk and spiritually moving, Why I Am a Catholic poses urgent questions for Catholic and non-Catholic readers alike.

COPING CATHOLIC by William J. Donnelly Pdf

It is a bit confusing and uncomfortable to be born a Roman Catholic. Each of us certainly has a body of received dogma and moral teachings but received wisdom is quite another thing. Wisdom comes from living. Moral demands and dogmatics without reference to the individual mind and considered behavior is, at best empty and, at worst, a kind of cultural fascism. Most of us who worship regularly and identify ourselves with a particular religion are not theologians any more than we are constitutional scholars or very complete historians of our own countries. At the same time we share a set of problems and goals: How do you make practical sense out of faith and useful meaning out of Church teaching? We are as much creators of our faith and morality as we are consumers of church dogmas and morals. The goal of faith is hope, tranquility and meaning. To this end, stories need be told. "Shared stories" is one definition of family and community. The People of God can only be persons of faith who share their stories. Coping Catholic is shared stories and meditations on the Creed, Commandments and Sacraments of a baptized Roman Catholic. It initiates a dialogue within the Christian Community. It shares the life experiences of a church-going, college educated Roman Catholic and reports what he believes. It proceeds dogma by dogma in the Creed, commandment by commandment, sacrament by sacrament, and life experience by life experience. His story reports the what and explains the why. The author's intent in sharing his story is that some readers will find a foothold of hope in the story of how another person, who shares much of their experiences and education, has learned to cope with the faith and doctrine many of us were born to.
