Unscripted by Ernie Jr. Johnson Pdf

Ernie Johnson Jr. has been in the game a long time. With one of the most recognized voices in sports broadcasting, he is a tireless perfectionist when it comes to preparing and delivering his commentary. Yet he knows that some of sports' greatest triumphs--and life's greatest rewards--come from those unscripted moments you never anticipated. In this heartfelt, gripping autobiography, the three-time Sports Emmy Award-winner and popular host of TNT's Inside the NBA provides a remarkably candid look at his life both on and off the screen. From his relationship with his sportscaster father to his own rise to the top of sports broadcasting, from battling cancer to raising six children with his wife, Cheryl, including a special needs child adopted from Romania, Ernie has taken the important lessons he learned from his father and passed them on to his own children. This is the untold story, the one Ernie has lived after the lights are turned off and the cameras stop rolling. Sports fans, cancer survivors, fathers and sons, adoptive parents, those whose lives have been touched by a person with special needs, anyone who loves stories about handling life's surprises with grace--Unscripted is for all of these.

Six by Ten by Taylor Pendergrass,Mateo Hoke Pdf

Thirteen personal accounts of solitary confinement’s devastating impact in the United States criminal justice system. Six by ten feet. That’s the average size of the cells in which tens of thousands of people incarcerated in the United States linger for weeks, months, and even decades in solitary confinement. With little stimulation and no meaningful human contact, these individuals struggle to preserve their identity, sanity, and even their lives. In thirteen intimate narratives, Six by Ten explores the mental, physical, and spiritual impacts of America’s widespread embrace of solitary confinement. Through stories from those subjected to solitary confinement, family members on the outside, and corrections officers, Six by Ten examines the darkest hidden corners of America’s mass incarceration culture and illustrates how solitary confinement inflicts lasting consequences on families and communities far beyond prison walls. Stories include those of Brian, who was shuttled from prison to prison across Illinois as part of an unofficial program that came to be known as “the circuit”; Heather, a mother fighting for the life of her son, Nikko, who was diagnosed as bipolar at a young age and sent to solitary as a teenager; and Sonya, a trans woman sent to solitary in a men’s jail in Texas, supposedly for her own protection. Praise for Six by Ten “A consistently eye-opening, urgent report on the use and misuse of prisoner isolation.” —Kirkus Reviews “Compels change by giving a voice to the voiceless . . . . The stories stop you in your tracks, but the appendices help move progress forward with simplicity, depth, and hope, beginning with ten things anyone can do that are impactful and accessible. The educational pieces of the book give apt background on the history and usage of solitary confinement, allowing even those examining the practice for the first time to have a firm grasp of the situation.” —Foreword Reviews “A deeply moving and profoundly unsettling wake up call for all citizens. The use of solitary confinement is deeply immoral and we must insist that it be banned in all of our nation’s prisons. Immediately.” —Heather Ann Thompson, Pulitzer Prize–winning author, Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy

God in Every Moment by Edie Bowman Pdf

If you’ve been told that you think too much, are quirky, or that you ask too many questions, then this book is for you! I understand the overthinking, creative mind, and have learned to embrace it! God wants to use our minds, talents, and creativity, in positive, redemptive ways. Our uniqueness’s can bring us closer God, but knowing he is for you, makes all the difference! He’s present in Every Moment, if we acknowledge him. This memoir is a little bit of everything--because we are complex beings. It’s a roller coaster of emotions expressing moments of my life through multiple genres: short stories, quotes, poetry, words of wisdom, and wildly comedic gestures (that perhaps, I should’ve kept inside...Lol!). My hope is by the end of this book you will have taken a wild journey that left you feeling heard, understood, uplifted, and convinced that God cares about Everything that concerns us!

My Journey with Parkinson's Disease by Robert E. Spekman Pdf

I have had Parkinson's disease (PD) for twenty-two years. I am told I have a mild case, but it is still my PD and I live with it 24/7. I would be a gross understatement to say my life was changed forever. Interesting, many of these changes have made me a more compassionate, empathetic, and caring person. In part, this book was motivated by the following premise: Many of us will experience a life-changing event that will cause us to pause and reassess where we are, what we do, and why we do it. For some, it might be the death of a loved one or a personal tragedy. Or it might be a re-awakening-that aha moment. For me, it was January 2, 1995, when my neurologist said, "Mr. Spekman, I have some bad news for you-you have Parkinson's." My life as it knew it crumpled around me. I could have wallowed in self-pity, but I am a fighter and chose eventually to manage my PD. I have adopted a number of Eastern non-traditional approached to deal with my PD. I have a yoga practice, meditate daily, and engage in massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic adjustments. All these different approaches complement my medication, and all contribute to my being very healthy, given the length of time I have had Parkinson's. I will take you on a journey, my journey, starting with denial to depression to, finally, acceptance. This book is more than the story of one man's journey with PD; it is a story of hope and personal transformation. If you permit me, I am going to take you on a journey that began over two decades ago. I have years to travel so do not ask where the destination is or ask if we are there yet. During the course of this book, I will share with you aspects of my life that were previously know to only a small number of people. It is through this intimacy that you will come to better understand and hopefully better deal with adversity that might affect your life.

Trouvailles - My Moments of Yugen by Shuvashree Chowdhury Pdf

Trouvaille (origin French) means a chance encounter with something wonderful, a windfall, a lucky find. Whether it's stumbling across a hidden back street, discovering a quaint cafe, or connecting with a local during a journey-the joy they bring is what you call trouvaille. Yūgen (origin Japanese) is a profound and mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe and the sad beauty of human suffering-an awareness that triggers emotional responses too deep and powerful for words. Trouvailles: My Moments of Yūgen is Shuvashree Chowdhury's second collection of poems. They are crafted from the physical and mental journeys she undertook to find herself. One moment she is navigating the ghats and galis of the holy city of Banaras; in another she is gazing at the mighty Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling and Kalimpong; one moment she is experiencing the calm of Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan; in another she is walking along the Hooghly in pastoral Bengal. Then there is travel- in the form of contemplation-undertaken during the Covid-forced lockdown. The poems are not so much about the destinations, but a fresh way of looking at places we already knew about. They are an optimistic and positive reflection on life and death; love and relationships; rejection and resilience.

Just in Time: Moments in Teaching Philosophy by Jennifer Hockenbery Dragseth Pdf

“Serious philosophy is not an attempt to construct a system of beliefs, but the activity of awakening, the conversation passionately pursued. Only if professional philosophy reclaims this paradigm and finds ways to embody it, will it achieve an active place in the thought and life of our culture.” —James Conlon, “Stanley Cavell and the Predicament of Philosophy.” This book is a collection of serious philosophical essays that aim to awaken readers, teachers, and students to a desire for conversation passionately pursued. The essays in this volume speak about sex, movies, poetry, and politics, in short, about those things contemporary Americans passionately discuss. These are the subjects that were taught for forty-three years in James Conlon’s classroom at Mount Mary University, a Catholic urban university for women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This volume celebrates Conlon’s work while calling to all who continue to teach and learn about philosophy in contemporary times with the message that relevant philosophy deals with life as it is lived in the moment.

The Core by Dr. Candus Jack-Williams Pdf

The Core is an inspirational Christian book designed to help many people understand the type of character God wants us to exercise daily. In Genesis, it is stated that God created the world and his work was perfect; however, we all know that the people in it are not. Although we live in the world, we are children of God. Therefore, it is possible for us to strive to exemplify God-like character each day. This book provides us with tools, resources, and testimonials to help us peel away dead layers of ungodly character, leading us to the core of our existence: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. No matter what we go through in life, the way to living an eternal life is through God. What do you want for your life? Do you want love, peace, and joy? If you are experiencing a waiting season, do you want to learn how to exercise patience? If you need self-control, do you want tools to help you develop it? If you struggle with being kind, gentle or good to others, this book is also for you. Obtain your key to the core by exercising godly character through the nourishment of spiritual fruit and watch how God does such amazing things in your life.
