"I Rise in Flame, Cried the Phoenix" is a one-act play by Tennessee Williams. It presents a fictionalized version of the death of English writer D. H. Lawrence on the French Riveria; Lawrence was one of Williams' chief literary influences. Though we all face a tug of war between dependency and autonomy while growing up, British author D.H. Lawrence (1885–1930) experienced the struggle with particular intensity.
