A Trip to Lotus Land (Classic Reprint) by Archie Bell Pdf

Excerpt from A Trip to Lotus Land Experience proved to me that six weeks, after the ship docks at Yokohama where American passengers usually disembark is ample time for seeing and enjoying all that the casual tourist will care to see. If he follows something like the itine rary sketched below, he will arrive back at Yoko hama ready to depart for home, exactly six weeks from the day he arrived at the same port. And unless he has denied it entrance, the sunshine of Japan will have lodged in his heart and he will join the choir that gladly chants the praises of Nippon. The Lotus Quest by Mark Griffiths Pdf

The lotus is the world's most iconic flower. Galvanised by receiving seeds from a three-thousand-year-old lotus, which flowered without difficulty in an English summer, Mark Griffiths set out to track the path of this sublime plant to its home in the Lotus-Lands of Japan. The Lotus Quest unveils a stunning vision of Japan's feudal era, as Griffiths visits shrines, ruins, gardens and wild landscapes, and meets priests and archaeologists, philosophers and anthropologists, gardeners and botanists, poets and artists, and even dines on the lotus in a Tokyo café. Beautifully illustrated, intensely atmospheric and full of suspense, The Lotus Quest shows how the deep crimson of the lotus runs like a tracer dye, tracking the spread, fusion and fission of the world's great civilizations.

Lost in Lotus Land by Jackson King Pdf

"I found [this book] to express profound insight in a very readable style. This story of the key events that shaped [the author's] life, conveyed in bold relief and vivid imagery, is educational and inspiring. [King] illustrates the essential principles of reparative therapy clearly and with good humor. I would recommend this book for my clients." -Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D. Psychologist and Director, Thomas Aquinas Psychological Clinic, Encino, California Jackson King uses a combination of psychological research, spiritual teachings, and personal experience to examine the environmental conditioning of male homosexuality and how it applied to his life. Confused and unhappy with the prospect of this lifestyle and in search of a way out, the elusive exit had to make sense to his questioning mind. That is where reparative therapy came in. It laid the pieces of the puzzle into place, helping King to understand the root cause of this condition. The end result was a newfound self-awareness that led to the freedom he was seeking. An enlightening journey of self-discovery-King's insightful story is told from a realistic perspective; inspiring the reader through shared experiences that are often humorous, thought-provoking, and always informative.

The portraits cover diplomats (from Mori Arinori to Sir Francis Lindley), businessmen (from William Keswick to Lasenby Liberty), engineers and teachers (from W. E. Ayrton to Henry Spencer Palmer), scholars and writers (from Sir Edwin Arnold to Ivan Morris), as well as journalists, judo masters and the aviator Lord Semphill. Herbert Ponting by Anne Strathie Pdf

Herbert Ponting (1870-1935) was young bank clerk when he bought an early Kodak compact camera. By the early 1900s, he was living in California, working as a professional photographer, known for stereoview and enlarged images of America, Japan and the Russo-Japanese war. In 1909, back in Britain, Ponting was recruited by Captain Robert Scott as photographer and filmmaker for his second Antarctic expedition. In 1913, following the deaths of Scott and his South Pole party companions, Ponting's images of Antarctica were widely published, and he gave innovative 'cinema-lectures' on the expedition. When war broke out, Ponting's offers to serve as a photographer or correspondent were declined, but in 1918 he, Ernest Shackleton and other Antarctic veterans joined a government-backed Arctic expedition. During the economically depressed 1920s and 1930s, Ponting wrote his Antarctic memoir, re-worked his Antarctic films into silent and 'talkie' versions and worked on inventions. Like others, he struggled financially but was sustained by correspondence with photographic equipment magnate George Eastman, a late-life romance with singer Glae Carrodus and knowing that his images of Antarctica had secured his place in photographic and filmmaking history.
