Indian Fights and Fighters (Classic Reprint) by Cyrus Townsend Brady Pdf

Excerpt from Indian Fights and Fighters With intervals devoted to other duties, I have been over a year and a half engaged in this congenial task. I have written literally hundreds of letters, to learn, or to verify, a fact, an incident, or a conclusion. It is interesting to call attention to the fact that information has been freely and generously given to me from every source whence I have asked it save three, one of which is noted in the appendix. It is my hope to continue this series Of books until I have covered all the wars that have been fought upon the American Continent since Columbus's day. Northwestern Fights and Fighters (Classic Reprint) by Cyrus Townsend Brady Pdf

Excerpt from Northwestern Fights and Fighters T will be noticed that this book differs from others of the american fights and fighters series, and especially its immediate predecessor, Indian Fights and Fighters, in that I am not the author of all or most of it. In response to a request for contributions from participants in the Modoc and Nez Perce wars, numerous papers were sub mitred, all of such high value, not only from an historic but from a literary point of View as well, that I had not the presumption to rewrite them myself not even the proverbial assurance of the historian would warrant that. Therefore, I have contented myself with writing a general and comprehensive account of each of the two wars considered, leaving to the actors themselves the telling in full of the detailed story of the splendid achieve ments in which they were making history. I can affirm, therefore, that never before has there been included in a single volume such a remarkable and interesting col lection of personal experiences in our Indian Wars as in this book. And as I admire the doers of the deeds so, also, do I admire the tellers of the tales. Their modesty, their restraint, their habit of relating adventures which stir the blood and thrill the soul as a mere matter of course. India's Fighters by Saint Nihal Singh Pdf

Excerpt from India's Fighters: Their Mettle, History and Services to Britain This little volume aims at giving a bird's-eye view of India's fighting clans - their origin, their deeds of dash and daring, their past services to Britain, and their part in the Armies of British India and of the Rajas. It makes no pretensions to being an exhaustive study of the organisation of the armies of India, or a complete history of their growth and accomplishments. Apart from the limitations of space and time at my disposal, my design has not been to essay such tasks. On the contrary, I have endeavoured to give a general idea of the extent and quality of Hindostan's military resources, and thereby supply a lack which has impressed many as unfortunate in the interests of the British Empire, the Oriental Dependency, and the world at large. The account I supply here is a plain, unvarnished tale, free from hyperbole. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Boys' Book of Frontier Fighters (Classic Reprint) by Edwin L. Sabin Pdf

Excerpt from Boys' Book of Frontier Fighters The Boys' Book of Indian Warriors told of the deeds by the red Americans in defense of their lives and to keep their homes. This second book tells of the deeds by the white Americans, in defense of their lives and also to clear the way for their homes. It commences with the pioneers and hunters in the East, and continues on to the frontiersmen and soldiers in the West. These are stories of bravery and of pluck amidst great odds. In many of the stories victory was won by the aid of powder, ball and steel, used manfully. In others it was won by sheer nerve and wit alone - for a good fighter fights with his heart and head as fully as with his hands. Americans have always been great fighters, when called upon to fight in self-defense. They never quit until they are killed or triumphant; and although many may be killed, those they leave press forward again. In France the Americans "never gave up an inch." We Americans of to-day, looking back, may be proud not only of the part played by our blood in the World War, but likewise of the part it played in the days when, rifle in hand, we were hewing the peace trail in our own country. Clothes do not make the soldier. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Fighter (Classic Reprint) by Albert Payson Terhune Pdf

Excerpt from The Fighter He had always been fighting. The square jaw, the bull neck proclaimed him Of the battling breed; even before one had scope to note the alert, light eyes, the tight mouth, the short, broad hands with their stubby strength of finger. In prize ring, in mediaeval battle field, in 'long shore tavern, Caleb Conover would have Slugged his way to supremacy. In business he won as readily and by like methods. His was not only the force but also the supreme craft of the fighter. Therefore he was president, instead of bouncer, in the offices Of the C. G. X. Railroad. Indian Child Life (Classic Reprint) by Charles Alexander Eastman Pdf

Excerpt from Indian Child Life Dear Children: - You will like to know that the man who wrote these true stories is himself one of the people he describes so pleasantly and so lovingly for you. He hopes that when you have finished this book, the Indians will seem to you very real and very friendly. He is not willing that all your knowledge of the race that formerly possessed this continent should come from the lips of strangers and enemies, or that you should think of them as blood thirsty and treacherous, as savage and unclean. War, you know, is always cruel, and it is true that there were stern fighting men among the Indians, as well as among your own forefathers. But there were also men of peace, men generous and kindly and religious. There were tender mothers, and happy little ones, and a home life that was pure and true. There were high ideals of loyalty and honor. It will do you good and make you happier to read of these things. Perhaps you wonder how "a real, live Indian" could write a book. I will tell you how. The story of this man's life is itself as wonderful as a fairy tale. Born in a wigwam, as he has told you, and early left motherless, he was brought up, like the little Hia watha, by a good grandmother. When he was four years old, war broke out between his people and the United States government. The Indians were defeated and many of them were killed.
