Decision Making in Complex Systems by Marina V. Sokolova,Antonio Fernández Caballero Pdf

The study of complex systems attracts the attention of many researchers in diverse fields. Complex systems are characterized by a high number of entities and a high degree of interactions. One of the most important features is that they do not involve a central organizing authority, but the various elements that make up the systems are self-organized. Moreover, some complex systems possess an emergency priority: climate change and sustainable development research, studies of public health, ecosystem habitats, epidemiology, and medicine, among others. Unfortunately, a great number of today’s overlapping approaches fail to meet the needs of decision makers when managing complex domains. Indeed, the design of complex systems often requires the integration of a number of artificial intelligence tools and techniques. The problem can be viewed in terms of goals, states, and actions, choosing the best action to move the system toward its desired state or behavior. This is why agent-based approaches are used to model complex systems. The main objective of this book is to bring together existing methods for decision support systems creation within a coherent agent-based framework and to provide an interdisciplinary and flexible methodology for modeling complex and systemic domains.

Semi-empirical Neural Network Modeling and Digital Twins Development by Dmitriy Tarkhov,Alexander Nikolayevich Vasilyev Pdf

Semi-empirical Neural Network Modeling presents a new approach on how to quickly construct an accurate, multilayered neural network solution of differential equations. Current neural network methods have significant disadvantages, including a lengthy learning process and single-layered neural networks built on the finite element method (FEM). The strength of the new method presented in this book is the automatic inclusion of task parameters in the final solution formula, which eliminates the need for repeated problem-solving. This is especially important for constructing individual models with unique features. The book illustrates key concepts through a large number of specific problems, both hypothetical models and practical interest. Offers a new approach to neural networks using a unified simulation model at all stages of design and operation Illustrates this new approach with numerous concrete examples throughout the book Presents the methodology in separate and clearly-defined stages

Model Induction from Data by Y.B. Dibike Pdf

There has been an explosive growth of methods in recent years for learning (or estimating dependency) from data, where data refers to known samples that are combinations of inputs and corresponding outputs of a given physical system. The main subject addressed in this thesis is model induction from data for the simulation of hydrodynamic processes in the aquatic environment. Firstly, some currently popular artificial neural network architectures are introduced, and it is then argued that these devices can be regarded as domain knowledge incapsulators by applying the method to the generation of wave equations from hydraulic data and showing how the equations of numerical-hydraulic models can, in their turn, be recaptured using artificial neural networks. The book also demonstrates how artificial neural networks can be used to generate numerical operators on non-structured grids for the simulation of hydrodynamic processes in two-dimensional flow systems and a methodology has been derived for developing generic hydrodynamic models using artificial neural network. The book also highlights one other model induction technique, namely that of support vector machine, as an emerging new method with a potential to provide more robust models.
