Wave-Riding into Therapy by Matthew Stephen Kraus Pdf

A group of surfers ride waves at their local beaches and find cosmological explanations in elements of their sport. Over about twenty years as the wave riding is cosmologically described, they show surfing instincts and practices. Doctor Charlton, is a member of their coterie, and he comments along the way. He and another doctor, Doctor Luther, who also rides waves, therapeutically treat members of the group of surfers. But it is mostly Stoney, who is the more serious case. Their wave riding continues. This book might be considered one of those one reads and puts on the shelf. Some parts are cosmological.

Explanation: New Directions in Philosophy by The Faculty in Philosophy Pdf

This volume initiates a series of American University Publications in Phi· losophy. It is expected that, as occasion permits, volumes will be added to the series, contributing to the dialogue that is contemporary philosophy. The essays in this volume were written by the faculty in philosophy at The American University during the academic year 1970·71 and appear here for the first time. In a variety of modes the essays cluster around epistemological problems collateral with theories of explanation. In view of recent attention to such theories, this volume explores several new directions in the explanation of behavior, language, and religion. We are especially appreciative of the secretarial assistance of Mrs. Madaline Shoemaker, whose magic turned many an unreadable manuscript into an intelligible essay. We are also grateful to Miss Maria Wilhelm for the final typing of the volume, and to the Office of the Dean for Graduate Studies, The American University, for encouragement and for a financial grant toward typing expenses. Riding with seat aids - the science behind an almost forgotten art by Brigitte Kaluza Pdf

Riding with seat aids is based on two principles - the mutual transmission of body oscillations between horse and rider and the mutual, mostly subconscious perception of the body. Accordingly, riding with seat aids is traditionally also learned subconsciously, preferably in childhood by practicing on a horse acting as a teacher. Modern science, however, can explain how it works to ride with seat aids only. Whoever understands the biomechanics of the body oscillations of horse and rider can become aware of the communication via body perception and thus also consciously learn to ride in movement symbiosis with the horse.

Infinite Autonomy by Jeffrey Church Pdf

G. W. F. Hegel and Friedrich Nietzsche are often considered the philosophical antipodes of the nineteenth century. In Infinite Autonomy, Jeffrey Church draws on the thinking of both Hegel and Nietzsche to assess the modern Western defense of individuality—to consider whether we were right to reject the ancient model of community above the individual. The theoretical and practical implications of this project are important, because the proper defense of the individual allows for the survival of modern liberal institutions in the face of non-Western critics who value communal goals at the expense of individual rights. By drawing from Hegelian and Nietzschean ideas of autonomy, Church finds a third way for the individual—what he calls the “historical individual,” which goes beyond the disagreements of the ancients and the moderns while nonetheless incorporating their distinctive contributions.
