Insights into the Effectiveness of Exercise/Lifestyle Recommendations in Primary Care by Tatsunori Ikemoto,Carol Ewing Garber,Patricia C. Heyn Pdf

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for non-communicable disease deaths worldwide. Several studies have shown that physical activity can reduce the risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Furthermore, exercise has been found to be beneficial in certain mental health conditions and improving the quality of life in patients undergoing cancer treatment. However, WHO estimates that 1 in 4 adults worldwide are not physically active enough. This has led to the development of the WHO global action plan on increasing physical activity, which includes integrating physical activity into primary health care. Globally, primary care professionals are already prescribing lifestyle changes, including those aimed at increasing physical activity. Examples of this include, prescription of gym memberships and initiatives that aim to better educate physicians on the benefits of physical activity on patient health. This research topic aims to discuss: • The effectiveness of exercise/lifestyle recommendations in improving patient outcomes in primary care. • Assessing physical activity in primary care practice • The use of exercise prescription to manage neurological diseases • The uptake of patients completing a recommended exercise plan and what can be done to increase this. • The importance of communication between the patient and physician in implementing the exercise plan and how this could be improved. • Confounding factors that affect the patient in following an exercise plan/ lifestyle recommendation. • Examples of where exercise recommendations by primary health care professionals have been successfully implemented in a real world setting. • Examples of successful clinical and community collaborations with allied health professionals such as exercise physiologists

Implementing High-Quality Primary Care by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Board on Health Care Services,Committee on Implementing High-Quality Primary Care Pdf

High-quality primary care is the foundation of the health care system. It provides continuous, person-centered, relationship-based care that considers the needs and preferences of individuals, families, and communities. Without access to high-quality primary care, minor health problems can spiral into chronic disease, chronic disease management becomes difficult and uncoordinated, visits to emergency departments increase, preventive care lags, and health care spending soars to unsustainable levels. Unequal access to primary care remains a concern, and the COVID-19 pandemic amplified pervasive economic, mental health, and social health disparities that ubiquitous, high-quality primary care might have reduced. Primary care is the only health care component where an increased supply is associated with better population health and more equitable outcomes. For this reason, primary care is a common good, which makes the strength and quality of the country's primary care services a public concern. Implementing High-Quality Primary Care: Rebuilding the Foundation of Health Care puts forth an evidence-based plan with actionable objectives and recommendations for implementing high-quality primary care in the United States. The implementation plan of this report balances national needs for scalable solutions while allowing for adaptations to meet local needs.

Families Caring for an Aging America by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Board on Health Care Services,Committee on Family Caregiving for Older Adults Pdf

Family caregiving affects millions of Americans every day, in all walks of life. At least 17.7 million individuals in the United States are caregivers of an older adult with a health or functional limitation. The nation's family caregivers provide the lion's share of long-term care for our older adult population. They are also central to older adults' access to and receipt of health care and community-based social services. Yet the need to recognize and support caregivers is among the least appreciated challenges facing the aging U.S. population. Families Caring for an Aging America examines the prevalence and nature of family caregiving of older adults and the available evidence on the effectiveness of programs, supports, and other interventions designed to support family caregivers. This report also assesses and recommends policies to address the needs of family caregivers and to minimize the barriers that they encounter in trying to meet the needs of older adults.

Family Medicine by J. L. Buckingham,E. P. Donatelle,W. E. Jacott,M. G. Rosen,Robert B. Taylor Pdf

This Second Edition of Family Medicine: Principles and Practice presents a scien tific approach to health and illness in the context of mankind's most enduring societal unit-the family. This is a new book, building on the strengths of the First Edition. The emphasis of this book, like that of the specialty itself, is on the clinical delivery of health care; that is, how the practitioner manages common problems and recognizes uncommon entities encountered in office, hospital, home, and nursing home. In the First Edition, we were faced with the problem of how to organize a family medicine textbook that dealt with clinical topics yet represented more than a series of essays on the specialties for the generalist reader. We began by identifying specific objectives, outlined in the preface to the First Edition. From this evolved an approach which has been called the biopsycho social perspective-inclusion of behavioral, family, social, and cultural aspects of health care integrated with the traditional "manifestations-and-manage ment" textbook model. The First Edition also introduced a comprehensive classification of clinical problems in family medicine now used in curriculum planning in many family practice residency programs.

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Surgery - An Exploration of Current Trends, Potential Opportunities, and Evolving Threats - Volume 1 by Anonim Pdf

Human history is filled with inventions and other innovations that resulted in a significant and lasting change in our civilization’s course of development. From gasoline-powered vehicles to transistor-based electronics or jet airplanes, things we now take for granted often appeared suddenly and unexpectedly. Yet after their introduction, our world changed forever. Over the past two decades, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have been stealthily increasing their presence in our everyday lives. This 'randomly systematic” adoption process is exposing humanity to something we never previously directly faced: an intelligence that may (and likely will) exceed our own. Despite this, most people are not fully aware of current (and future) benefits, limitations, and threats related to AI/ML. Within health care, there is little awareness of what AI/ML is capable of and how these new capabilities are being implemented or utilized. It is this current state that serves as our 'starting point” in the emerging debate on AI/ML in medicine and surgery, including its integration, projected influence, and many other considerations that are not that different from other past technology adoption paradigms. This book discusses both current trends and future developments in AI and ML across health care.

Primary Care at a Glance by Oreste Capelli Pdf

"Both among scientists and clinical practitioners, some find it easier to rely upon trivial explanations, while others never stop looking for answers". With these surprising words, Augusto Murri, an Italian master in clinical medicine, reminds us that medical practice should be a continuous journey towards knowledge and the quality of care. The book brings together contributions by over 50 authors from many countries, all around the world, from Europe to Africa, from Asia to Australia, from North to South America. Different cultures are presented together, from those with advanced technologies to those of intangible spirituality, but they are all connected by five professional attributes, that in the 1978 the Institute of Medicine (IOM)1 stated as essentials of practicing good Primary Care: accessibility, comprehensiveness, coordination, continuity and accountability. The content of the book is organized according to these 5 attributes, to give the reader an international overview of hot topics and new insights in Primary Care, all around the world.
