Inspector Alan Grant of Scotland Yard MEGAPACK® by Josephine Tey Pdf

“Josephine Tey” was one of several pseudonyms used by Elizabeth Mackintosh (1896–1952), a Scottish author best known for her mystery novels. I have chosen to release this volume under this particular pseudonym since 5 of the 6 volumes were first published under it. (She published the first book as by “Gordon Daviot,” a name she primarily used for plays with historical themes.) In five of six novels in this series, the hero is Scotland Yard Inspector Alan Grant. (Grant appears in a sixth, The Franchise Affair, as a minor character—but it is included here for completeness.) The most famous of these is The Daughter of Time, in which Inspector Grant, while laid up in hospital, has friends research reference books and contemporary documents so that he can puzzle out the mystery of whether King Richard III of England murdered his nephews, the Princes, in the Tower. The Daughter of Time was the last of Tey’s books to be published during her lifetime. In 1990, the British Crime Writers’ Association selected it as the greatest mystery novel of all time. One final crime novel, The Singing Sands, was found in her papers and published posthumously. It is last in this collection. If you enjoy this collection, search your favorite ebook store for "Wildside MEGAPACK" to see the complete list of available titles. We have published more than 400 volumes in the series, covering mysteries, adventure, historical fiction, science fiction -- and much, much more!

The Dancing Partner by Jerome K. Jerome Pdf

This early work by Jerome K. Jerome was originally published in 1893 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'The Dancing Partner' is a short story about the scarcity of young men as dancing dancing partners and a creepy solution offered by a mechanical toy maker. Jerome Klapka Jerome was born in Walsall, England in 1859. Both his parents died while he was in his early teens, and he was forced to quit school to support himself. In 1889, Jerome published his most successful and best-remembered work, 'Three Men in a Boat'. Featuring himself and two of his friends encountering humorous situations while floating down the Thames in a small boat, the book was an instant success, and has never been out of print. In fact, its popularity was such that the number of registered Thames boats went up fifty percent in the year following its publication.

FIRE IN THE THATCH by E.C.R.. Lorac Pdf

One of the very few known facts about the life of Edith Caroline Rivett is that she was evacuated from London to South Devon during the war. Among London and North Lancashire this region provides the setting for several of her novels. As seen in Fire in the Thatch she apparently knows about its landscape and agriculture, its vernacular architecture and its people. Haycraft, Howard in Murder for Pleasure suggests a formula for the detective genre "50% good detection, 25% character, 25% what you know best". Mrs. Rivett, writing as E. C. R Lorac, certainly fulfils the last 25%. The setting in time is excellent, too. It’s about 1944 and references to the war abound. Rationing of petrol is even an integral part of the story.

The Abbot's Tale by Conn Iggulden Pdf

In the year 937, the new king of England, a grandson of Alfred the Great, readies himself to go to war in the north. His dream of a united kingdom of all England will stand or fall on one field—on the passage of a single day. At his side is the priest Dunstan of Glastonbury, full of ambition and wit (perhaps enough to damn his soul). His talents will take him from the villages of Wessex to the royal court, to the hills of Rome—from exile to exaltation. Through Dunstan’s vision, by his guiding hand, England will either come together as one great country or fall back into anarchy and misrule . . . From one of our finest historical writers, The Abbott’s Tale is an intimate portrait of a priest and performer, a visionary, a traitor and confessor to kings—the man who can change the fate of England.

A Lonely Man by Chris Power Pdf

"Elegant . . . A superb suspense novel, imbued with moral and narrative complexity and an omnipresent low cloud cover of dread.” —Maureen Corrigan, The Washington Post Two British men meet by chance in Berlin. Robert is trying and failing to finish his next book while balancing his responsibilities as a husband and father. Patrick, a recent arrival in the city, is secretive about his past, but eventually reveals that he has been ghostwriting the autobiography of a Russian oligarch. The oligarch has turned up dead, and Patrick claims to be a hunted man himself. Although Robert doubts the truth of Patrick’s story, it fascinates him, and he thinks it might hold the key to his own foundering novel. Working to gain the other man’s trust, Robert draws out the details of Patrick’s past while ensnaring himself ever more tightly in what might be either a fantasist’s creation or a lethal international plot. Through an elegant existential game of cat and mouse, Chris Power’s A Lonely Man depicts an attempt to create art at the cost of empathy. Robert must decide what is his for the taking—and whether some stories are too dangerous to tell.
