There is already a great shortage of skilled workers in the EU, increasing due to demographic developments. Through smooth integration into working life, refugees and migrants can make important contributions to overcome the shortage of skilled workers. The successful integration into the job market is limited by a high level of certificate belief in most host countries. Particularly difficult is the assessment and recognition of informally acquired competences which have already been acquired in several years of professional experience. It is at this informal level that refugees would like to continue in the host country. The project pursued this innovative, promising approach of evaluating the actual competencies to achieve a promising integration of refugees into working life in the participating countries as quickly as possible by 1. Identifying competencies, skills and aptitudes through a two-stage assessment procedure. 2. Focused on this, completion of a further training programme with an official educational qualification so that a recognized professional certificate can be obtained. 3.Individual coaching with placement in permanent jobs in SMEs. The project INTACT, was dedicated to the integration of newly arrived migrants into working life. The project was carried out from 15. January 2018 to 14. January 2021 by seven partners from five countries. This publication describes the used methods and experiences of the project.

The subject of the investigation is the mechanism of autoregulation of blood flow in the intact kidney. The left kidney of the anesthetized dog was exposed via a flank approach. Renal venous outflow was measured during control periods and following separate elevations of renal artery pressure, renal vein pressure, and ureteral pressure. Extravascular pressure (tissue pressure) was estimated by obtaining values of (a) deep vein pressure; (b) needle pressure; (c) and (d) large vein pressure and ureteral pressure elevations resulting in significant decreases in renal blood flow. Results are in agreement with previously reported studies regarding the important role of extravascular pressure in autoregulation. Increases in renal artery pressure result in elevations of extravascular pressure which compress the renal vasculature. Increases in renal vein and ureteral pressures did not decrease renal blood flow until approximating or exceeding resting tissue pressure. Results from carotid artery occlusion experiments indicate that extrarenal humoral influences may be superimposed on the autoregulatory phenomenon. (Author).

Biodiversity loss is accelerating at an unprecedented rate across the planet putting a great number of species on the brink of extinction. A decline in the plants, animals, and microorganisms threatens food security, sustainable development, and the supply of vital ecosystem services. In order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, there is an urgent need to take action to halt biodiversity loss and consequently ecosystem degradation. Since the introduction of the Aichi targets, released by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 2010, the United Nations have been empowered with greater influence on decision-making impacting biodiversity. However, there was an urgent need for an easy-to-use tool to rapidly, yet effectively assess the impact on biodiversity posed by projects, programmes, and policies. As a timely response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed the Biodiversity Integrated Assessment and Computation Tool (B-INTACT). B-INTACT extends the scope of environmental assessments to capture biodiversity concerns, which are not accounted for in conventional carbon pricing. The tool is designed for users ranging from national investment banks, international financial institutions and policy decision-makers, and allows for a thorough biodiversity assessment of project-level activities in the Agriculture, Forestry and Land Use (AFOLU) sector. The second version of the guidelines includes additional information on how to use B-INTACT together with FAO's Earthmap platform and the Ecosystem Service Valuation Database.

The forests of Fennoscandia have been in human use for many purposes for centuries, and through the last decades industrialized and cultivated in a manner that can change their ecological function with respect to biodiversity at species and ecosystem levels. In Northwest Russia we can still find large, indigenous forests where human impact is low. They represent the last intact western taiga ecosystems of high value for biodiversity preservation in Russia and Fennoscandia as reservoirs and source habitats for future dispersal of taiga species. The Conference and Workshop in Steinkjer 2007 focused on these matters, but also the ecological importance of these forests for rural culture, socio-economic importance, industrial values and how protection and sustainable societies could go hand in hand. Many of the presentations given at the conference and workshop are here presented together with the Summary and Closing Statement worked out at the end of the sessions. Ganglion cell responses were recorded with microelectrodes from the intact eye to focused spots and annuli of light delivered by a dual-beam ophthalmoscope. Only concentrically organized circular receptive fields were analysed. Thresholds for optimal center and surround stimuli were approximately equal, as were the latencies of on-responses from the center and surround. With whole-field stimulation center-dominance was a function of light intensity. Off-responses and center-surround interaction were observed with brief flashes (5 msec, 10 msec). With increases of flash duration the duration of the on-response did not increase by the full increment of the flash until the flashes were 50 to 80 msec. At high-flash intensities the on-response extended into the off-period and the off-response weakened and disappeared; it occurred with both on-excitation and on-inhibition and for the responses of both center and surround. These intensity effects were also studied in an intracellular recording; at high intensities, the rate of repolarization of the postsynaptic potential decreased, and the latency of repolarization was delayed. Tropical peatlands are among the largest pedologic pools of organic carbon. This study compared soil CO2 fluxes in an intact peat swamp forest, a transitional logged drained forest and an oil palm plantation located on the same alluvial peat plain (peat dome) in Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia. Dynamic closed chambers were used to measure soil CO2 efflux from January to September 2012. Chambers were placed in pairs, with one close to a tree/palm and the other at mid-distance to the next tree/palm. In the oil palm plantation additional chambers were placed in frond decomposing lines and tertiary drainage canals. During the experiment, air and soil temperatures, water table level and rainfall were recorded. The fluxes were significantly larger in the oil palm plantation (28.4 ± 1.2 Mg C-CO2 ha1 y1) than in the transitional logged drained forest (18.5 ± 0.7 Mg C-CO2 ha1 y1) and in the intact peat swamp forest (16.0 ± 1.2 Mg C-CO2 ha1 y1). The CO2 fluxes were spatially variable according to distance to tree/ palm or when emitted from tertiary drainage canals but no clear trend was detected. A significant but weak relationship was found between CO2 fluxes and water table level in the peat swamp forest. Soil CO2 emissions in oil palm plantations were higher than those reported from Borneo by other authors. The soil CO2 flux should be separated into its auto- and heterotrophic components and balanced with C inputs and other C outputs in further studies to determine soil net atmospheric impacts on the climate system of this land-use change.
