Role Theory and Russian Foreign Policy by Damian Strycharz Pdf

Despite the increased interest in Russia and its international behaviour, current analyses leave much unexplained. Damian Strycharz fills this gap in the literature by analysing leaders’ perceptions and the interactions between internal and external factors shaping foreign policy decisions. Challenging existing interpretations of Russian foreign policy and advancing our understanding on how role dynamics occur in non-democracies, Strycharz examines Russia’s reactions to the 2003–4 colour revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine, the Five-Day War in Georgia, and the Euromaidan Revolution. He argues that divergent reactions to these upheavals result from a profound change in the leadership perceptions of Russia’s international responsibilities. Consequently, a shift in the understanding of Russia’s international duties and departure from the Western partner role resulted in more assertive foreign policy behaviour exemplified by the intervention in Georgia and the annexation of Crimea. The book demonstrates that processes of foreign policy formation in Russia are more complex and include more actors than commonly assumed. Role Theory and Russian Foreign Policy is an ideal resource for scholars and researchers of international relations, foreign policy, and post-Soviet politics.

ICT in English Language Education by Preet Hiradhar,Atanu Bhattacharya Pdf

This book discusses the use of Web 2.0 tools to leverage students’ own use of New Media, which can take learning beyond the classroom. This paradigmatic book will help language educators gain a better understanding of the shift in pedagogic practices through the incorporation of technology in language learning programs. It explores the theoretical underpinnings of ICT in education, before moving on to pragmatic considerations and subsequent implementation of ICT within and beyond language classrooms in the South Asian context. The book covers a wide range of topics, such as the context within which ICT can be placed vis-à-vis teaching and learning in the digital age, as well as the role of ICT in communicative practices, and strategies used to bring these practices to the language classroom. It illustrates how ICT can be incorporated for both receptive as well as productive language learning skills, such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing within pedagogic frameworks. Accordingly, it addresses affordable technologies and how they can be made a part of the teaching–learning experience. Finally, in terms of ICT beyond the classroom, the book provides a broader perspective on ICT in terms of selecting platforms or software, as well as the evaluation of ICT with special reference to ICT policies that offer language educators guidance on managing ICT frameworks within their institutions. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable asset for language educators, teacher trainers, students, and researchers in education and linguistics programs within and outside South Asia.

Principles of Macroeconomics Asia-Pacific Edition with Online Study Tool S 12 Months by Robin Ellen Stonecash,Jan Libich,Joshua Gans,Stephen King,N. Gregory Mankiw,Martin Byford Pdf

The brief and student-friendly approach of this book boils economics down to its essentials, by considering what is truly important for students to learn in their first course in economics. In keeping with the authors' philosophy of showing students the power of economic tools and the importance of economic ideas, this edition pays careful attention to regional and global policies and economic issues ' including the impacts of the ongoing global financial crisis, inflation, unemployment, interest rates, and monetary and fiscal policy. Continuing global financial uncertainty and the current state of the Australian economy provide a constant supply of new material, re-evaluated models, and policy changes and updates for the Principles of Macroeconomics text. The book emphasises the material that students should and do find interesting about the study of the economy, resulting in a focus on applications and policy, and less on formal economic theory. Principles of Macroeconomics, 7e encourages students to make their own judgements by presenting both sides of the debate on five controversial issues facing policymakers: the proper degree of policy activism in response to the business cycle, the choice between rules and discretion in the conduct of monetary policy, the desirability of reaching zero inflation, the importance of balancing the government's budget, and the need for tax reform to encourage saving.

Disability Rights Advocacy Online by Filippo Trevisan Pdf

Disability rights advocates in the United Kingdom and the United States recently embraced new media technologies in unexpected and innovative ways. This book sheds light on this process of renewal and asks whether the digitalisation of disability rights advocacy can help re-configure political participation into a more inclusive experience for disabled Internet users, enhancing their stakes in democratic citizenship. Through the examination of social media content, Web link analysis, and interviews with leading figures in grassroots groups on both sides of the Atlantic, Filippo Trevisan reveals the profound impact that the Internet has had on disability advocacy in the wake of the austerity agenda that followed the 2008 global financial crisis. In Britain, a new, tech-savvy generation of young disabled self-advocates has emerged from this process. The role of social media platforms such as Facebook in helping politically inexperienced users make sense of complex policy changes through the use of personal stories is discussed also. In addition, this book explains why British disability advocates adopted more innovative and participatory strategies compared to their American counterparts when faced with similar policy crises. This book reviews the implications of this unexpected digital transformation for the structure of the disability rights movement, its leadership, and the opportunity for disabled citizens to participate fully in democratic politics vis-à-vis persisting Web access and accessibility barriers. An original perspective on the relationship between disability and the Internet, and an indispensable read for scholars wishing to contextualize and enrich their knowledge on digital disability rights campaigns vis-à-vis the broader ecology of policymaking.
