Heat And Mass Transfer In Mhd Flows by Elmars Blums,Yu Mikhailov,R Ozols Pdf

Control of heat and mass transfer processes by means of external force effects is one of the most important problems in modern applied physics. This book is devoted to the study of the magnetic field effect as it bears on transfer phenomena: heat and mass transfer. In conducting media, this influence is mainly due to the induced electric current and the interaction of the current with the magnetic field, whereas in magnetizable fluids, molecular or colloidal solution, transfer phenomena are directly affected by the field. When analysing heat and mass transfer in multiphase magnetizing media, only those phenomena which could be described in terms of conventional quasi-stationary approximation are considered. The effects assoicated with the non-equilibrium magnetization of the system and particle interaction receive special attention here. The problem studied here have been considered with a view to possible applications, particularly in biology and medicine.

Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Heat Conduction in Air, Including Effects of Oxygen Dissociation by C. Frederick Hansen Pdf

Solutions are presented for the conduction of heat through a semi-infinite gas medium having a uniform initial temperature and a constant boundary temperature. The coefficients of thermal conductivity and diffusivity are treated as variables, and the solutions are extended to the case of air at temperatures where oxygen dissociation occurs. These solutions are used together with shock-tube measurements to evaluate the integral of thermal conductivity for air as a function of temperature.

Experimental Investigation of Insulating Refractory-metal Heat-shield Panels by Gregory R. Wichorek,Bland A. Stein Pdf

The results of an experimental study to determine the capabilities and limitations of a thermal protection system utilizing thin-gage, refractory-metal shields are presented. Cyclic radiant-heating tests to 2,4OO F (l,589 K) were performed on a heat-shield panel with molybdenum-alloy shields coated with a silicide-base coating, and a radiographic technique was used to detect oxidation damage and brittle cracking of the coated shields. A heat-shield panel with columbium-alloy shields was subjected to supersonic flow conditions at a Mach number of 3 and dynamic pressure of l,5OO lb/ft2 (71.8 kN/m2). The results of preliminary tests on a prototype panel with nickel-alloy shields subjected to radiant-heating and wind-tunnel conditions are also reported. Evaluation tests on the molybdenum-alloy shield material were made at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 2,9000 F (1,8660 K). Oxidation results and metallurgical studies covering diffusion phenomena for coated molybdenum-alloy coupons and small riveted configurations under continuous and cyclic conditions at temperatures to 2,9000 F are also given.
