Recent Trends in Cold-Formed Steel Construction by Cheng Yu Pdf

Recent Trends in Cold-Formed Steel Construction, Second Edition focuses on the application and use of this important construction material. In this updated edition, new chapters take on these developments, offering updates on cutting-edge new technologies and design methods for using cold-formed steel as a structural material and providing technical guidance on how to design and build sustainable and energy-efficient cold-formed steel buildings. Sections introduce codes, specifications and design methods, provide computational analysis of cold-formed steel structures, examine the structural performance of cold-formed steel buildings, and review thermal performance, acoustic performance, fire protection, floor vibrations and blast resistance. Over the last few years, there has been major breakthroughs for cold-formed steel design with modular building applications now becoming more widely accepted. Other scientific developments include research on system reliability applications, AI machine learning, and the use of high strength steel, as well as new connection methods and changes in DSM codes. Addresses building science issues and provides performance solutions for the design of cold-formed steel buildings Provides guidance for using next generation design methods, computational tools and technologies Edited by an experienced researcher and educator with significant knowledge on new developments in cold-formed steel construction Covers new developments such as modular construction, machine learning and code developments in Europe, Australia and China

The Fireproofing of Steel Buildings by Joseph Kendall Freitag Pdf

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1899 edition. Excerpt: ...or vertical partitions, which, if overlooked during burning, might destroy the strength of an entire archcourse. In end-construction manufacture, especially where porous material is employed, the forms are simpler and the laminations in the clay do not affect the strength to any such extent as occurs in the side-construction. In end-construction blocks the buckling of the lamina is prevented by the next layers above and below, and also by the partitions. This is not the case in the side-construction method. In end-construction all the body of the arch above the neutral axis is carrying a portion of the load, while in the side-construction the horizontal members only are in direct service. This tends to produce a horizontal shearing in the lamina. Comparison in Effectiveness.--It has been shown that, in the side-construction arch, the voids run parallel to the supporting beams. This reduces the effective arch area to the horizontal webs and partitions, as the vertical webs can serve only as sides or abutting members to the individual blocks, and as struts to prevent buckling. It has also been pointed out in Chapter IV, and in previous paragraphs, that the side-construction skewback usually constitutes the weakest place in the arch, and failure is very apt to occur at this point either by the crushing or shearing of the skew. In the " Lee " arch, made for test at the Equitable Building, Denver, in 1890, the blocks, for the first time in terracotta arch construction, were made according to the endmethod, and these and nearly all later tests have shown the superiority of this form. Continuous walls of material are utilized for both the vertical and horizontal webs and partitions, and all of the material performs useful work as an...
