The Pacific is also home to two (2) of the world's largest ocean Gyre's (Garbage patches). Too often their particular needs have not been widely considered - especially in regard to the smaller islands (eg Tuvalu which has recently been in the media). Many of these islands are also significantly impacted by remoteness and tourism. Why should we think about these specific issues - why do they matter? It is hoped that this book may provide an insight into the history of this region and therefore an understanding how sustainability has already developed over the centuries. Today, however, the region is largely, indirectly, affected by the actions of others around the globe. The diversity that has also developed across the region will also be explored to better understand how some of the various countries within the region have developed and how integration of sustainability has affected these areas.
