Issues in Prayer Book Revision by Robert W. Prichard Pdf

Essays from academics across a spectrum of perspectives. The Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music sought input from multiple sources in order to better understand the charge of the General Convention of 2015 suggesting that it present a plan for the revision of the Book of Common Prayer to the 2018 Convention. While the individual chapters of this volume raise a variety of differing issues, they share a common assumption—that one of the sources of information for the Standing Commission and the Church in its deliberations ought to be the community of academically trained liturgical scholars. The hope of this volume is to open a conversation across the church that will continue in the future.

A Prayer Book Revised by Charles Gore Pdf

Excerpt from A Prayer Book Revised: Being the Services of the Book of Common Prayer, With Sundry Alteration and Additions Offered to the Reader It was at my suggestion that the anonymous editor of this book set about his work. As would be anticipated, he has not worked as a mere individual, but has been associated with others, has embodied the opinions of many liturgical students, and has drawn from many sources. I have felt for some time that the issue of a revised Prayer Book, representing the ideal of revision entertained by a competent scholar or group of competent scholars, would be of real advantage to the cause of careful revision. I hope that as a Church we shall take some time yet before we determine what is to be the official revision of the Prayer Book. Meanwhile we want different groups of persons to go on working at the subject. But also I think we want different individuals to be so bold as to publish their ideas of a revised Prayer Book. A look through a Latinx lens at how the Episcopal/Anglican church can minister to and with the Latinx community Unmasking Latinx Ministry is a unique look at the history of the Episcopal Church in the last fifty years, including a bold and insightful analysis of the institutionalization of Latinx ministries. Through a Latinx lens, the author brings fresh eyes to the challenges faced by the Episcopal Church’s ministry with and among Latinx persons and communities. Along with the historical analysis and insight, the author brings a background and formation in Episcopal churches in Puerto Rico, Texas, California and Central New York, as well as more than fifteen years of experience in a multicultural and multiracial, monolingual and bilingual congregations in New York City. Of Thine Own Have We Given Thee by Shawn O. Strout Pdf

Every Sunday around the world, Christians offer money and in-kind gifts to the church, traditionally known as alms. For communities that celebrate the Eucharist regularly, bread and wine, traditionally known as oblations, often accompany these gifts. What does it mean theologically for Christians to offer gifts to God, who first offered the greatest gift of Jesus Christ? This question regarding the role of alms and oblations in the liturgy was among the most controversial questions of the English Reformations in the sixteenth century. While the eucharistic prayer proper has often been the site of this theological controversy, the offertory rite has also received great attention. The 1552 English Book of Common Prayer excised all references to oblation in the offertory rite, but oblationary language and actions, such as the offertory procession, returned in full force by the twentieth century. The movement from the near elimination of oblation in the offertory rite to its widespread usage in the churches of the Anglican Communion is a remarkable liturgical and theological development. Using liturgical theology's tools of historical, textual, and contextual analyses, this book explores how this development occurred and why it is important for the church today.
