The Routledge Companion to Gender and Affect by Todd W. Reeser Pdf

The study of affect is one of the most exciting and wide-ranging topics to have emerged in the humanities and social sciences in recent years and continues to generate research and debate. It has particularly important implications for the study of gender, as this outstanding handbook amply demonstrates. It is the most comprehensive volume to date, engaging with the intersections between gender and affect studies. A global and interdisciplinary range of contributors articulate the connections (and disconnections) between gender, sexuality, and affect in a range of geographical and historical contexts. Comprising over 40 chapters, the Companion is divided into six parts: Affects of Gender Affective Relations, Relational Affects Affective Practices Representing Affects Geographical and Spatial Affects Affects of History, Histories of Affect Topics examined include intersections between gender and affect over topics including queerness, trans*, feminism, masculinity, race/ethnicity, disability, animality, media, posthumanism, technology, sound, labor, neoliberalism, protest, and temporality. This is an outstanding collection that will be invaluable to scholars and students across a range of disciplines, including gender and sexuality studies, cultural studies, literature, media, and sociology.

Atmospheres of Violence by Eric A. Stanley Pdf

Advances in LGBTQ rights in the recent past—marriage equality, the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and the expansion of hate crimes legislation—have been accompanied by a rise in attacks against trans, queer and/or gender-nonconforming people of color. In Atmospheres of Violence, theorist and organizer Eric A. Stanley shows how this seeming contradiction reveals the central role of racialized and gendered violence in the United States. Rather than suggesting that such violence is evidence of individual phobias, Stanley shows how it is a structuring antagonism in our social world. Drawing on an archive of suicide notes, AIDS activist histories, surveillance tapes, and prison interviews, they offer a theory of anti-trans/queer violence in which inclusion and recognition are forms of harm rather than remedies to it. In calling for trans/queer organizing and worldmaking beyond these forms, Stanley points to abolitionist ways of life that might offer livable futures.

Visitation by Jennifer DeClue Pdf

In Visitation, Jennifer DeClue shows how Black feminist avant-garde filmmakers draw from historical archives in order to visualize and reckon with violence suffered by Black women in the United States. DeClue argues that these filmmakers—including Kara Walker, Kara Lynch, Tourmaline, and Ja’Tovia Gary—create spaces of mourning and reckoning rather than voyeurism and pornotropy. Through their use of editing, performance, and cinematic experimentation, these filmmakers intervene in the production of Blackness and activate new ways of seeing Black women and telling their stories. Theorizing these films as a form of conjure work, DeClue shows how these filmmakers raise the specters of Black women from the past and invite them to reveal history from their point of view. In so doing, Black feminist avant-garde filmmakers channel spirits that haunt archives and create cinematic arenas for witnessing Black women battling for survival during pivotal and exceedingly violent moments in US history. A Great Gift by Seraph Luk Pdf

Thirteen cryptic dream messages came from her Higher Self. Should she believe them as real, or should she seek professional therapy? The messages began when she was thirty-eight. She was now fifty-eight and counting, but when one or two of her dreams started connecting afore unknown dots, and guiding her on her path, she had no choice but to wait out the rest with faith. The alternative was living without purpose, without knowing that there is something more, something higher... but she knew better. Over the course of years, she also received over one hundred personal dreams shared with her Twin Flame. But he was married, and his wife was a bwitch with a vengeance. Why would these dreams guide her to him if it was not meant to be? Why would she have to endure the delays, the blocks, the rejection, and the black magic? Was it all an illusion, a fantasy, an obsession, unrequited love? Was it part of her purpose to help him, or only to wake him? She had asked God to show her, her Twin Flame. God did. What God did not say was if they would have their reunion in this lifetime. It would be a long wait for answers and answered prayer, but through it all she would grow, and she would know her purpose, and his place in her life, or not.

From Stage Iv to Center Stage by Denise DeSimone Pdf

From Stage IV to Center Stage is a story of extraordinary courage, strength, and deep spirituality. Denise DeSimones journey began the moment she opened her eyes in a post-op ward after a routine biopsy to determine the pathology of the lump on her neck and was told, You have cancer. A very aggressive cancer in your throat and neck, and you need to move on this immediately. Given three months to live because of stage IV throat and neck cancer (August 2005), to singing the National Anthem before a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in Boston (July 2007), to riding her bicycle eighty-five miles in one day to raise money for childrens cancer research with the Pan Mass Challenge (August 2007) all in less than two years is proof that the unexpected can be achieved. Denise approached cancer differently than most people do. She chose not to battle, cancer; she chose to embrace it and allow it to become her teacher and her sage. Naming her cancer PINan acronym for Pain in the Neck, Denise entered into a dialogue with PIN, gave it a pen, and gave it permission to teach her the lessons she needed to learn. The lessons were rich and enlightening. She learned something deeply critical to healing: self-love. When we love ourselves, we dont want to battle anything. When we love ourselves, we allow our vibration to attract life at a higher frequency: a frequency that promotes healing on all levelsemotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Denise learned that self love is the all-time greatest healer.

The Future Happens Twice by Matt Browne Pdf

Debrya Handsen, a 33-year-old professor in computational linguistics at the University of Minnesota, is ready for a career change. She decides to leave her academic post and move to Nevada, where she joins a top secret project that is being sponsored by the American government. Using powerful telescopes on the far side of the Moon, the project's astronomers have discovered an Earth-like planet that is eighty-two light years away; simultaneously, a major breakthrough in bio- engineering presents the project with the unique opportunity of long-distance space travel. At first Debrya has no idea why the study of language is to play such a central role, and why twin studies are also so important. During her orientation week she discovers a disturbing secret that makes her wish she had never joined the project. Soon she is faced with the dilemma of revealing the dark secrets of the project or being part of the most ambitious undertaking in the history of humankind. Matt Browne's beautifully worked space epic explores the bounds of human hope and plumbs the depths of human duplicity. Tender relationships between the budding astronauts are pitched against the disillusion they feel when an embattled President confronts them with their true origins and purpose. The author's fascination with the fields of bioengineering and information technology sustains the reader's interest all the way through this roller-coaster ride. The adventures continue in parts II and III of Matt Browne's thrilling trilogy, The Future Happens Twice - Human Destiny and The Andromeda Encounter.

Talk by Linda Rosenkrantz Pdf

Talk is a hilariously irreverent and racy testament to dialogue: the gossip, questioning, analysis, arguments, and revelations that make up our closest friendships. It’s the summer of 1965 and Emily, Vincent, and Marsha are at the beach. All three are ambitious and artistic; all are hovering around thirty; and all are deeply and mercilessly invested in analyzing themselves and everyone around them. The friends discuss sex, shrinks, psychedelics, sculpture, and S and M in an ongoing dialogue where anything goes and no topic is off limits. Talk is the result of these conversations, recorded by Linda Rosenkrantz and transformed into a novel whose form and content put it well ahead of its time. Controversial upon its first publication in 1968, Talk remains fresh, lascivious, and laugh-out-loud funny nearly fifty years later.

The Lebanese Matter by Charles Hays Pdf

This book is about a series of murders which recently occurred at the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. The manner of death was caused by numerous knife-like cuts where the wounded victims were left on the Embassy streets, sidewalks and parking lots to bleed-out until they were dead. The local forces were unable to solve these murder mysteries and the honorable Ambassador, Madam Margaret Sullivan, had no recourse except to seek outside assistance from the US Army at NATO Headquarters in Europe. In exchange for a large grant from the US military, Nicolas and his investigative team were very happy to offer their services in this new challenge from and for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was also the best method by which Haig could afford to pay for their Gulfstream G-550 jet liner.

Bugsy & Other Stories by Rafael Frumkin Pdf

From the author of Confidence and The Comedown comes a wildly imaginative story collection about queerness, neurodivergence, sexuality, and self-discovery. Frumkin’s latest book is a deliciously entertaining collection of five genre-defying stories that range from downright hilarious to brilliantly unhinged. Taken together, they celebrate a wide variety of human experiences. In the title story, a queer young adult with bipolar disorder drops out of college in a fog of depression, aimlessly drifting between maintaining their job at a fast food restaurant and dodging their mom’s texts. But when they fall in with a group of sex workers starring in BDSM films, they find radical freedom, love, and community. In other stories, we meet a psychiatrist whose meticulously-maintained life is upended by an Alex Trebek-like voice in his head, an e-girl celebrity who is being courted by a delusional fan, a young boy on the spectrum at odds with a neurotypical world determined to “cure” him, and an elderly woman whose consciousness is being transformed by her oncoming death. With incredible insight, compassion, and honesty, Frumkin unravels each story with tantalizing precision. Sexy and raw—and compulsively readable—this collection offers a look at our innermost selves as we all try to make sense of the world and our place in it.
