James Cameron: An Unauthorized Biography Of The Filmmaker by Marc Shaprio Pdf

As told by veteran entertainment journalist Marc Shapiro, the story of James Cameron is rich in history and as explosively entertaining as any of his masterpiece films. Cameron the youngster built toy rockets and submarines and displayed at an early age the drive to win at any cost. The Cameron legend has it that when a neighbor stole some of little Jim's toys, he sneaked into the boy's backyard and sawed through the branches supporting his treehouse. When the treehouse collapsed, Cameron's rival ended up in the hospital. Ever since that day, James Cameron has been leaving many of those who cross his path in a state of mental or physical disrepair. But his fanaticism and incredibly strong work ethic also win the respect of those around him, and inspire many to go the extra mile. The teenager who was awestruck by the visual power and special effects of Stanley Kubrick's groundbreaking 2001: A Space Odyssey and immediately decided to become a filmmaker, has grown up to be one of the very best. But at what cost? Those who would label Cameron a self-absorbed , egotistical maniac have plenty of ammunition to back up their claims. As early as 1984's The Terminator, cast and crew members took to wearing T-shirts with the slogan "You can't scare me...I work for James Cameron." Of course, the infamous director never really talks to co-workers on his sets, he barks at them in succinct soundbites. And he doesn't play favorites. Not even his franchise player, Arnold Schwarzenegger, got special treatment during the filming of True Lies. High on a crane and ready to film a scene, he reports: "I had to go to the bathroom read bad. Jim screams up to me, 'No you can't! You're a military man on a mission, would a real pilot land just to go to the bathroom?'" James Cameron: An Unauthorized Biography of the Filmmaker includes other revelations and insights: * how the idea for The Terminator came to him in a fever dream * how he fell overboard in love with actress Suzy Amis on the set of Titanic * how Cameron's antics drove several stars of The Abyss to near nervous breakdowns * how someone on the set of Titanic allegedly attempted to incapacitate the lovable director by slipping him, and the rest of the crew, the drug PCP

James Cameron by Ian Nathan Pdf

James Cameron is the most successful filmmaker of all time by some margin, which is something we tend to take for granted. The question at the heart of the book isn't only how this came about, but what is it about Cameron that makes him such a universal storyteller? Cinema has had its godlike directors, lifting it up into new spaces, but he is their Zeus--the man who made the biggest film of all time then topped that by making the next biggest film of all time. This book encapsulates not only the magnitude of James Cameron as a filmmaker but the minutiae too - the incredible stories of an artist whose commitment to the medium knows few bounds. The tales behind the films are as epic as the films themselves. The incredible making of The Abyss, much of it shot submerged in a decommissioned nuclear plant, could fill a book on its own. This is a film-by-film biography of the most popular director of all time.

James Cameron: A Biography by Claire Shefchik Pdf

ABOUT THE BOOK It was 1982. A then-twenty-seven-year-old James Cameron, recently fired by producer Roger Corman from the Rome-based set of schlocky B movie Piranha II: The Spawning, had been staying in an Italian pensione hotel, his pay for the film exhausted, stealing hard rolls from room-service trays for sustenance. Wracked by fever, one night he dreamed of a “chrome skeleton, emerging out of a fire,” cut in half, dragging itself after a woman. As he later told The New Yorker, he thought, “That was cool. I’d never seen that in a movie before.” Of course, the “chrome skeleton” was “the terminator,” and the woman was Sarah Connor--not a victim, as it turns out, but the first in what would become a long line of indelible action heroines Cameron would create. “The Terminator,” starring the director’s future wife Linda Hamilton as Connor and then-little-known strong-man actor named Arnold Schwarzenegger as the terminator, would prove one of the highest-grossing movies of 1984. Needless to say, Cameron would never again have to worry about where his next meal was coming from. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Cameron married his fifth wife, actress Suzy Amis, who played Rose’s granddaughter Lizzy Calvert in Titanic , on the film’s set in 1997. They have three children together, but Terminator star Hamilton has reasonable doubts about the relationship. After all, when Cameron met Amis, he was still in a relationship with her. "The woman he can't get is always his dream girl," she told The Daily Mail. "Work and women go hand in hand for Jimbo, and I should know." In fact, four of Cameron’s five wives he met on movie sets, beginning with Gale Ann Hurd, the producer who believed enough in the script for The Terminator to finance it. He divorced his first wife, Sharon Williams (a waitress at Bob’s Big Boy, who Cameron married when he was still working blue-collar jobs in Orange County) to marry Hurd in 1985. His third wife, director Kathryn Bigelow, whom he married in 1989 and divorced two years later, remains a collaborator to this day. She still goes to Cameron to run scripts by him, including the one for The Hurt Locker. Their friendly professional rivalry manifested at the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony, when they were both up for Best Director--Cameron for Avatar, Bigelow for The Hurt Locker. Bigelow won... The Cinema of James Cameron by James Clarke Pdf

This timely volume explores the massively popular cinema of writer-director James Cameron. It couches Cameron's films within the evolving generic traditions of science fiction, melodrama, and the cinema of spectacle. The book also considers Cameron's engagement with the aesthetic of visual effects and the 'now' technology of performance-capture which is arguably moving a certain kind of event-movie cinema from photography to something more akin to painting. This book is explicit in presenting Cameron as an authentic auteur, and each chapter is dedicated to a single film in his body of work, from The Terminator to Avatar. Space is also given to discussion of Strange Days as well as his short films and documentary works.
