Jesus the Great Physician by Walter Hannay Pdf

Everyone needs a Doctor at some time, even if it is just to sign a death certificate! This book is written with a view of Jesus Christ as not only a Physician but the greatest Physician who ever lived. Thirty-seven miracles are recorded in the Gospels and as Mary Fairchild says: "None were performed randomly, for amusement or for show. Each was accompanied by a message and either met a serious human need or confirmed Christ`s identity and authority as the Son of God". Having been a Doctor for over forty years, I have viewed the healing miracles of the Lord Jesus in the gospels under medical categories as seen from a modern classification of disease. Not every miracle is therefore included - only those I see in a category of disease or medical specialty. I have added some relevant thoughts at times relevant to the miracle. The review is limited to the four Gospels although in the first chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, the Physician Luke tells us that in his Gospel he recorded the things that Jesus "began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up" (verses 1-2) to Heaven. He thus infers that Jesus is still doing and teaching through His Apostles in the book of Acts. Two of these are mentioned briefly in the book. The chapters have been arranged in chronological order rather in order of any perceived importance.

Faith in the Great Physician by Heather D. Curtis Pdf

This history of evangelical faith healing in nineteenth-century America examines the nation’s shifting attitudes about sickness, suffering, and health. Faith in the Great Physician tells the story of how participants in the divine healing movement transformed the ways Americans coped with physical affliction and pursued bodily wellbeing. Heather D. Curtis offers critical reflection on the theological, cultural, and social forces that come into play when one questions the purpose of suffering and the possibility of healing. Belief in divine healing ran counter to a deep-seated Christian ethic that linked physical suffering with spiritual holiness. By engaging in devotional disciplines and participating in social reform efforts, proponents of faith cure embraced a model of spiritual experience that endorsed active service, rather than passive endurance, as the proper Christian response to illness and pain. Emphasizing the centrality of religious practices to the enterprise of divine healing, Curtis sheds light on the relationship among Christian faith, medical science, and the changing meanings of suffering and healing in American culture. Recipient of the Frank S. and Elizabeth D. Brewer Prize of the American Society of Church History for 2007

The Great Physician by Vinton Dearing Pdf

THE GREAT PHYSICIAN is a biography of Jesus of Nazareth. It includes both an original translation of the Gospel texts and extensive commentary based on 40 years of scholarship and over 80 years of life experience with spiritual healing. Because of printing constraints, it is printed in two volumes which are intended to be read together. Volume 1 includes the narrative; Volume 2 includes footnotes and indexes. Since Volume 1 is written in chronological order rather than by Gospel, most readers will require the Index of Translations in Volume 2 to find specific Gospel chapters and verses. Students of the Bible and anyone interested in spiritual healing will especially appreciate the well annotated and comprehensive background information about social and religious thought during Christ Jesus' time as well as modern day examples of spiritual healing based on Christ Jesus' teachings. As a scholar and with great respect for those who hold to different religious traditions, Professor Dearing strove for accuracy and clarity in representing opposing viewpoints. He endeavored to write a book that is both unbiased and ecumenical so that readers can make their own judgments.

Dear and Glorious Physician by Taylor Caldwell Pdf

A bestseller “alive with the bustle of ancient times” that “movingly reconstructs St. Luke’s search for God” (The New York Times). Two millennia ago, a Greek man known as Lucanus traveled to Alexandria to study medicine. He would become one of the greatest doctors of his time and heal the sick all throughout the Mediterranean world. But his extraordinary work as a physician is not his greatest legacy. Today he is known around the world as St. Luke—author of the third Gospel of the New Testament. He never laid eyes on Jesus, but he heard about Christ’s life and death, and saw God in Him. He retraced Jesus’s steps and sought out those who had known Him—including His mother, Mary. The resulting account is a cornerstone of Christianity and world history. From the celebrated author of Captains and the Kings and Great Lion of God comes this stirring and deeply inspiring story, counted “among the bestselling religious novels of all time” (The New York Times Book Review). “A portrait so moving and so eloquent I doubt it is paralleled elsewhere in literature.” —Boston Herald “Magnificent. . . . [Caldwell] has made St. Luke a real and believable man and recreated on a vast canvas the times and people of his day. You see as large as life all the glory and decadence of Rome and all the strife, turmoil and mysticism of Africa. . . . A glowing and passionate statement of belief.” —The Columbus Citizen
