The Curé of Ars by Mary Windeatt Pdf

MY NAME is John, and I have been dead since August 4, 1859. How happy I am! For my soul is in Heaven. Yes, for eternity I am privileged to see God. . . For endless eternity I enjoy a happiness that is beyond the power of mere words to describe. And nothing can ever take this happiness from me! Or from my friends—the millions of men and women and boys and girls who are with me in Paradise! For the joy we have is everlasting. It is eternal. God has said so, and of course He cannot lie. It was not easy to win this joy. When a soul comes into the world, the Devil tries very hard to drag it down to Hell. So it was with nearly everyone who is in Heaven today, the chief exceptions being those who died shortly after Baptism—babies and very small children. But I—well, my life on earth lasted for more than seventy-three years, and many, many times during that period the Devil tried to discourage me in my efforts to please God and to win the place which He had prepared for me in Paradise. Did he succeed? Of course not. And why? Because of the wonderful courage God gave me whenever I called upon Him. For in my day (even as in any day) whenever there was a temptation to do wrong, to go over to the Devil’s side and give up the struggle to win Heaven, God was always ready with His grace. Since He wills that every soul in the world shall someday enjoy the good things of Heaven, naturally He does not withhold the means to obtain them. But what a pity that so few people understand this, and that when trials and temptations come they never think of asking God for the grace to remain true to Him. Because of such neglect, the struggle against the Devil is generally far harder than it needs to be. Many times, alas, it even ends in defeat—in Hell, with all its terrible darkness and misery and pain. My struggle to outwit the Devil and to win Heaven (although it was some time before I really understood about such things) began on May 8, 1786, in Dardilly, a village not far from the city of Lyons, in France. My parents, Matthew Vianney and Maria Beluse, already had three children: Catherine, Jane and Francis. But they were delighted to have still another, and on the same day that I was born I was taken to the village church to be baptized. Here I was given two names: John, in honor of Saint John the Baptist, and Marie (the French form of Mary) in honor of the Blessed Virgin. “I wonder what little John Marie Vianney will be when he grows up?” some of the neighbors asked one another thoughtfully. “He seems to be a fine, strong boy.”

John Mary Vianney: The Holy Cure of Ars by Sophie De Mullenheim,Adeline Avril,Janet Chevrier Pdf

Father John Vianney, the beloved Cure of Ars, is the patron saint of parish priests for good reason. His simple way of life, his compassion for the poor, his long hours in the confessional, and his heartfelt celebration of the Mass endeared him to his parishioners, as well as to the countless Frenchmen who traveled many miles to receive the sacraments from this holy man. In this tenderly and colorfully illustrated story, children will lean how John Vianney heard his calling to the priesthood when as a young boy during the French Revolution he attended underground Masses with his devout family. They will also learn how he struggled in school, yet persevered in his studies until his dream to be a priest was realized. When Father Vianney was assigned to the parish in Ars, he found that the faith and religious practice of the local people had been weakened by the Revolution and the rise of Napoleon. He ate and slept very little as he poured himself out for the salvation of souls. His reputation spread far and wide, and in the last years of his life, he spent up to seventeen hours a day hearing the confessions of people from all over France. With his kindness, wisdom and occasional miracle, Father Vianney won over many hearts, and he was mourned by thousands when he died in Ars at the age of 73. "People would line up all the way down the street until late at night to make their confession to him. In the midst of the crowd, the Cure of Ars could spot those who needed him most... 'You, madam, you're in a hurry', he said. 'Come quickly to make your confession.' The woman was astonished. How could this priest whom she had never seen before know that she had sixteen children waiting for her at home? God had given Father Vianney the gift of seeing into people's hearts. Miracles even happened in his presence."

Eucharistic Meditations by Abbé H. Convert Pdf

Saint Jean-Baptiste Marie Vianney, known affectionately as The Curé d'Ars, was a peasant priest. In the aftermath of the French Revolution and Napoleonic rule, in a time of anti-clericalism and social and economic disarray, he was appointed parish priest of the obscure and dispirited village of Ars. Over the next forty years, he was the agent of a complete spiritual, social, and material reform of his parish, which became a joyful refuge and a place of pilgrimage. Men and women would travel for weeks simply to confess before the humble and holy man. His particular devotion to the Blessed Sacrament is manifest in this book of twenty-seven meditations, which had its first English edition two years before his canonization in 1925. St. John is now celebrated as the patron of parish priests.

The Incorruptibles by Joan Carroll Cruz Pdf

Continuously popular since it first appeared in 1977, The Incorruptibles remains the acknowledged classic on the bodies of Saints that did not undergo decomposition after death, many remaining fresh and flexible for years, or even centuries. After explaining both natural and artificial mummification, the author shows that the incorruption of the Saints bodies fits into neither category but constitutes a much greater phenomenon which is unexplained by modern science even to this day. The author presents 102 canonized Saints, Beati and Venerables, summarizing their lives, the discovery of their incorruption and investigations by Church and medical authorities. The incorruptible bodies of saints are a consoling sign of Christ's victory over death, a confirmation of the dogma of the Resurrection of the Body, a sign that the Saints are still with us in the Mystical Body of Christ, as well as a proof of the truth of the Catholic Faith for only in the Catholic Church do we find this phenomenon.
