KAILASH- FAITH AND BEYOND by DR JAGDISH KAUR Pdf

The eternity meshes with time and the slightness and impermanence of mortality greet the intricacies of immortality at the holy Mount Kailash. From time immemorial, before the dawn of civilizations, the sacred mountain Kailash has been visited by the followers of many faiths and main religions of Asia including Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Bon religion to seek answers to their perpetual spiritual quest and to unravel the prevailing mysteries. The interest in Mount Kailash goes beyond faith and repeated attempts have been made to unravel the mysteries attached to it using possible modalities. The Western explorers developed an interest in the Kailash region during the past few centuries leading to several expeditions to the area resulting in scientific research gaining momentum in the late 20th and 21st centuries to unravel various mysteries. The saga of Mount Kailash goes much beyond the faith and spiritual aspect associated with it for centuries and to date instills awe and inspiration among humanity to unravel the secrets, myths and understand the underlying science of the Kailash phenomenon.

To Kailash and Beyond by Eric Jan Verwey Pdf

The novel 'To Kailash and Beyond' relates the journey of a young contemporary mystic and can be placed within the genre of religious fiction. Throughout the book one follows the mystic's development in first only Hinduism, and later also Judaism. Whereas the information offered about Hinduism clearly stems from the author's personal experience gained on many and extended trips to India, the knowledge that is passed on about Jewish mysticism is academic in nature. The author managed to combine these two personal fields of interest by introducing a hermit into the story. It is this hermit, steeped in kabbalah, who initiates the protagonist into the secrets of gematriah, the Jewish counterpart of numerology. Although the protagonist is essentially the same person throughout the entire book, a structural division can be made, dividing the novel into two, seemingly different, journeys. The first journey, with which the book opens, is a geographical journey through, mostly, Hindu India. The second journey, beginning with chapter three, is a textual journey through the books of the Hebrew Old Testament, and kabbalistic texts commenting on this Testament. The chapters narrating the two journeys loosely alternate. Their main connecting point is based on ten specific sentences, the origin of which is only made explicit in chapter sixteen, almost two-thirds into the book. The genesis of these ten sentences lies within the first journey, in the numerological implications as perceived by the protagonist while visiting Hindu temples. When one finds them again in the second journey, they are incorporated as specific passwords needed to cross from one world to the next. The reader finds themselves here in a setting reminiscent of the so-called 'throne mysticism', the oldest stage of Jewish mysticism, the followers of which travelled from throne world to throne world. In 'To Kailash and Beyond', these throne worlds are replaced by the ten sefirot (godly emanations), and the passwords by the original ten sentences. With the progress of the youth's journey in India and the parallel rise in the worlds of the sefirot, the reader experiences a sense of synthesis. To come to this culmination, the protagonist uses the highest truths as he found them in Hinduism and Judaism as tools with which to negate the dogmatic aspects of these two religions. He thus succeeds to come to a pure mystical experience untainted by exclusive theories or limiting paths. In order to aid readers inexperienced in and/or uninformed about either of the two main religions prevalent in the novel there are two main resources. At the beginning of the book there is a rudimentary introduction into Jewish letter mysticism. At the end one finds a glossary containing Hindi words and terminology. In general, throughout the book, the author has sought to develop the main ideas gradually and with many reformulations. All in all, 'To Kailash and Beyond' is a fascinating account of modern-day mysticism, addressing many aspects in an inter-religious adventure. Although some of the mathematical expositions might seem obscure at first, giving them extra attention will certainly add to one's reading of the novel and pay off when one has reached the grand finale. If all else fails, though, skipping these parts, the reader will still experience the thrill and wonder of the mystical journey and come out on the other side moved by it.

This is the ultimate pilgrimage of man to his own eternal abode. The idea of this book was conceived after this group of pilgrims made the most important journey of their lives - the Kailash Manasarovar pilgrimage - which was made more sublime with the presence of their spiritual teacher, Mohanji. This is an unusual format for a book wherein different people from all walks of life came together to share their experiences after the pilgrimage in July 2012. It has taken nine months, the full term for a human life to take birth, to compile and rewrite this book. In the course of this period it was written and rewritten in three different formats. A note from Mohanji is followed by the significance of Kailash-Manasarovar and a complete narrative of the journey written by the editor, Aparna Sharma. Chapter 5 is in the words of all those who came together to create this book, some fellow pilgrims and some who did not attend the pilgrimage but were connected, in spirit through mystical chords of love.

To a Mountain in Tibet by Colin Thubron Pdf

**TOP TEN BESTSELLER** 'I would rather read Colin Thubron than any other travel writer alive' John Simpson Mount Kailas is the most sacred of the world's mountains - holy to one fifth of humanity. Isolated beyond the central Himalayas, its summit has never been scaled, but for centuries the mountain has been ritually circled by Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Colin Thubron joins these pilgrims, after an arduous trek from Nepal, through the high passes of Tibet, to the magical lakes beneath the slopes of Kailas itself. He talks to secluded villagers and to monks in their decaying monasteries; he tells the stories of exiles and of eccentric explorers from the West. Yet he is also walking on a pilgrimage of his own. Having recently witnessed the death of the last of his family, his trek around the great mountain awakes an inner landscape of love and grief, restoring precious fragments of his own past.

Walking in Clouds by Kavitha Yaga Buggana Pdf

Will we make it? That's the question Kavitha and her cousin, Pallu, ask themselves as they trek through Himalayan pine forests and unforgiving mountains in Nepal and Tibet. Their goal: to reach Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. The two women walk to ancient monasteries, meditate on freezing slopes, dance on the foothills of Kailash, and confront death in the thin mountain air. In Kailash and Manasarovar, the holiest of Hindu and Buddhist sites, they struggle to reconcile their rationalist views with faith and the beloved myths of their upbringing. Remarkably, it is this journey that helps them discover the meaning of friendship. Walking in Clouds is a beautifully crafted memoir of a journey to far-away places and to the places within. It mixes lyrical, descriptive storytelling with stunning photographs to bring to life a unique travelogue.

In a journey rarely, if ever, attempted before, in 6 months of hard travelling Palin takes on the full length of the Himalaya including the Khyber Pass, the hidden valleys of the Hindu Kush, ancient cities like Peshawar and Lahore, the mighty peaks of K2, Annapurna and Everest, the gorges of the Yangtze, the tribal lands of the Indo-Burmese border and the vast Brahmaputra delta in Bangladesh.
