Karl Marx Biographical Memoirs (Classic Reprint) by Wilhelm Liebknecht Pdf

Excerpt from Karl Marx Biographical Memoirs Better is the enemy of Good is an old com monplace, but like most commonplaces, it never theless contains a truth, behind which I retire for shelter in presenting the following little book. A hundred times I have been asked to write about Marx and my personal relations to him, but I have always declined to do so. And declined from - how shall I call it? - a certain holy awe - or how shall I express myself more correctly 'i - from reverence of Marx. N oblesse oblige. And a Marx imposes weighty obliga tions. Could I do him justice? Had I the abil ity? Had I the time? Under the continually growing pressure of work I was condemned to haste, to superficial working. And a eulogistic daubery, with Marx for its object, that would be an insulting lack of respect. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Karl Marx; Biographical Memoirs ... by Wilhelm Liebknecht Pdf

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1906 edition. Excerpt: ... others speak instead of speaking myself; but I should lie were I to deny that the enthusiastic acclamations of a meeting numbering thousands whom I am holding as by hypnotic power and filling with my thoughts, with my feelings--that this magnetic power over a roaring sea of human beings has something wonderfully intoxicating. However, I have never forgotten the dangers of popularity; and if I remain unmoved by applause and praise--as unmoved as by the abusive language and the calumnies of our enemies-- it is an art I have learned from Marx, although it necessitated the school of a life full of struggles to hammer it into me. Politics was to Marx a study. Beer-politicians and barroom politics he viewed with deadly hate. And, indeed, is anything more devoid of sense conceivable? History is the product of all the forces active in Man and Nature and of human thought, of human passions, of human wants. But politics is, theoretically, the recognition of these millions and billions of factors busy at the 'loom of Time," and, practically, action based on this recognition. Politics is also science and applied science; and political science or science of politics is, as it were, the essence of all science, for it embraces the whole field of action of Man and Nature, which action is the goal of all science. Nevertheless every ass thinks himself a great politician or even a great statesman--as every ass thinks himself a good newspaper editor. For both purposes-- according to common belief--it is unnecessary to have learned anything; one is "born" for them, to quote Professor Sohm of Leipsic. How wild Marx could become when speaking of those hollow skulls who arrange matters for themselves with a few cant phrases and, mistaking their more or less...

Karl Marx and Modern Socialism (Classic Reprint) by F. R. Salter Pdf

Excerpt from Karl Marx and Modern Socialism This book is not in any way an anti-collectivist pamphlet; nor does it claim to be either an original or a profound study of Marxism. But the life of Marx is so little known, either by friend or foe, and his teaching so often reduced to a few bald shibboleths, that there may perhaps be room for a sketch of him as he was in relation to the thought and the circumstances of his age, describing at the same time, in rough outline, the development of the labour movements of Europe to whose growth he contributed so much. The writer is one of those who are so genially described in certain quarters as "class-biassed teachers in Universities," but he can plead practical knowledge of W.E.A. Tutorial Classes as, in some sense at least, a corrective to academic prejudice, and he is anyhow old-fashioned enough to doubt whether the writing of history must of necessity be only a class, or mass, interpretation of the past. Marx has certainly had less than justice done him hitherto because class interpretations have made him out as either an impeccable hero or a worthless ruffian: this deluge of praise and blame, in each case so often entirely undiscriminating, has had the effect of turning into an inhuman and almost legendary figure one who was in point of fact a very lovable, very exasperating but essentially real, though often wrong-headed, enthusiast. Karl Marx by Otto Rühle Pdf

First published in English in 1929, this is a reissue of Otto Rühle's comprehensive biography of Karl Marx. Written by a leading Marxist and key figure within the German Labour movement, this is an exceptionally detailed and well-researched study which sets Marx's life and work firmly within its social and historical context before examining in depth the major events of his life and the writings for which he has become such an influential figure in modern political philosophy. The final chapter offers an appraisal of both the man and his work, as Rühle summarises why he believes Marx was a genius.

Karl Marx and the Birth of Modern Society by Michael Heinrich Pdf

For over a century, Karl Marx’s critique of capitalism has been a crucial resource for social movements. Now, recent economic crises have made it imperative for us to comprehend and actualize Marx’s ideas. But without a knowledge of Karl Marx’s life as he lived it, neither Marx nor his works can be fully understood. There are more than twenty-five comprehensive biographies of Marx, but none of them consider his life and work in equal, corresponding measure. This biography, planned for three volumes, aims to include what most biographies have reduced to mere background: the contemporary conflicts, struggles, and disputes that engaged Marx at the time of his writings, alongside his complex relationships with a varied assortment of friends and opponents. This first volume will deal extensively with Marx’s youth in Trier and his studies in Bonn and Berlin. It will also examine the function of poetry in his intellectual development and his first occupation with Hegelian philosophy and with the so-called “young Hegelians” in his 1841 Dissertation. Already during this period, there were crises as well as breaks in Marx’s intellectual development that prompted Marx to give up projects and re-conceptualize his critical enterprise. This volume is the beginning of an astoundingly dimensional look at Karl Marx – a study of a complex life and body of work through the neglected issues, events, and people that helped comprise both. It is destined to become a classic.

Karl Marx by Werner Blumenberg Pdf

This classic biography of Karl Marx, complete with Gareth Stedman Jones' poignant introduction, is unlike any other account of its subject. Including virtually every photograph in existence of Marx and his closest associates, and focusing as much on his private life as on his public persona and work, it provides an intimate portrait of the making of a complex intellectual the New Yorker recently dubbed "the next most influential thinker."

Karl Marx by David McLellan Pdf

In the century following his death, Marx became the dominant intellectual force in the world. The Russian and Chinese (and many other) revolutions referred back to Marx. His influence can be found in every area of the human and social sciences from literary criticism to world economics. Reviled by some, revered by others, his ghost continues to haunt our world. In a recent BBC poll, Marx was declared Britain's favourite philosopher.
