Karma-Nemesis, Adrasteia-Themis by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Karma-Nemesis is no more than the spiritual effect of causes produced and forces awakened into activity by our own actions. It is a law of occult dynamics that “a given amount of energy expended on the spiritual or astral plane is productive of far greater results than the same amount expended on the physical objective plane of existence.” This Law — whether Conscious or Unconscious — predestines nothing and no one. It exists from and in Eternity, truly, for it is Eternity itself; and as such, since no act can be co-equal with eternity, it cannot be said to act, for it is Action itself. Intimately, or rather indissolubly, connected with Karma, is the law of rebirth, or of the reincarnation of the same spiritual individuality in a long, almost interminable, series of personalities. With the early Greeks, Nemesis was no goddess, but a morel feeling rather, the barrier to evil and immorality. He who transgresses it commits a sacrilege in the eyes of the gods, and is pursued by Nemesis. But, with time, that “feeling” was deified, and its personification became an ever-fatal and punishing goddess. Therefore, if we would connect Karma with Nemesis, it has to be done in the triple character of the latter, viz., as Nemesis, Adrasteia, and Themis. For, while the latter is the goddess of Universal Order and Harmony, who, like Nemesis, is commissioned to repress every excess, and keep man within the limits of Nature and righteousness under severe penalty, Adrasteia — “the inevitable” — represents Nemesis as the immutable effect of causes created by man himself. Nemesis, as the daughter of Dike, is the equitable goddess reserving her wrath for those alone who are maddened with pride, egoism, and impiety. Life would become unbearable, if one had to believe in a god created by man’s unclean fancy, when the will of man masquerades as the Will of God.

Karma is the Uncreated Law of Truth and Justice. by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

At the first flutter of renascent life, the mutable radiance of the Immutable Darkness passes from an inactive state into one of intense activity, and then begins its work through continuous differentiation and individualisation —propelled and ushered by Karma. Cosmic Cycles are subservient to the effects produced by this activity. Radiating from the rootless root-essence, the One Cosmic Atom becomes seven atoms on the plane of matter. Each atom is then transformed into a centre of energy, and radiates seven rays on the plane of spirit and seven creative forces in nature. The spiritual septenary on the right path and the material counterpart on the left, though they evolve in close embrace, remain separate till the end of the Kalpa. The visible Kosmos consists of self-produced beings, creatures of Karma. The true Buddhist denies the creation of Patristic fancy and regards the anthropomorphic God as a gigantic shadow thrown upon the void of space by the imagination of ignorant men. The task of analysing and classifying the human being as a terrestrial animal may be left to Science. But man’s inner, spiritual, psychic, and moral nature cannot be left to the tender mercies of an ingrained materialism. Molecularists such as Huxley demean certainty to probability, and rush to announce firm conclusions while the premisses are still to collect. They had sown wind and reaped the whirlwind. Within the global cycles of material descend and spiritual ascend, there are perpetual racial, national, and individual cycles of time ever returning upon themselves, periodically and intelligently, in Space and Eternity. The continuity and unity of history are principles of scientific divination, by which alone the mind penetrates the sealed records of the past and the unopened pages of the future. The whole past of the Earth is nothing but an unfolding present. The chief features of one’s life are always in accordance with the “constellation” one is born under, i.e., with the characteristics of its animating principle or the deity that presides over it. The closer the approach to one’s prototype “in heaven,” the better for the mortal whose personality was chosen by his own personal deity as its terrestrial abode. Our destiny is written in the stars. The closer the union between the mortal reflection, man, and his celestial prototype, the less dangerous the external conditions and subsequent reincarnations, which neither Buddhas nor Christs can escape. When the last strand is woven and man is enwrapped in the network of his own doing, he finds himself completely under the empire of his self-made destiny. It then either throws him like the inert shell against the immovable rock, or carries him away like a feather in a whirlwind raised by his own actions. Reason governs the world, its history, and its destiny. All else is subordinate and subservient to it, and the means for its development. Those who seek to satisfy their own purposes, are instruments of a higher and broader purpose, of which they know nothing, though they may realise it unconsciously. The law of evolution is now carrying us along the ascending arc of our cycle, when discordant effects will once again merge into counterbalanced causes, and all things will have regained their original harmony. The great Racial Cycles affect all the nations and tribes; but there are minor and national as well as tribal cycles within those, which run independently of each other. In the East they are known as Karmic cycles. In the West, since Pagan Wisdom has been repudiated as having grown from by dark powers supposed to be at constant war (and in opposition to the little tribal Jehovah), the awful significance of Karma-Nemesis has been entirely forgotten. But, in truth, Karma is the creator of nations and mortals; and it is they who make of her either a fury or a rewarding angel. There is not a single accident in our lives, not a misshapen day, which could not be traced back to our own doings in this or in a previous life. Karma-Nemesis is the synonym of Divine Providence, minus design, goodness, and every other finite qualification, so unphilosophically attributed to her. An Occultist will not speak of the goodness or cruelty of Providence; but he will teach that she guards the virtuous and watches over them in this, as in future lives; and that it punishes the evil-doer — even to his seventh rebirth. Were no man to hurt his brother, Karma would have neither cause to work for, nor weapons to act through. Nor would the ways of Karma remain inscrutable, were men to work in union and harmony, instead of disunion and strife. For our ignorance of those ways — which one portion of mankind calls the ways of Providence, dark and intricate; while another sees in them the action of blind Fatalism; and a third, mere chance, with neither gods nor devils to guide them — would surely disappear, if we would but attribute all these to their correct cause and learn how to be kind to each other. Karma is a law of occult dynamics, governing life throughout the universe, whether visible or invisible. Only the sceptics will shut their eyes, ostrich-like, to their own fate. This state will last till we begin acting from within, instead of ever following impulses from without; namely, those produced by our physical senses and barefaced selfishness. Until then, the only palliative to the evils of life is union and harmony — brotherhood in action, not simply in name. The suppression of one single bad cause will suppress not one, but a variety of bad effects, and hold back additional causes in a world already full of woe and evil. Karma is the unerring law of truth and justice which makes empires rise and fall, and adjusts even laughter at the mutual expense of sects, learned societies, and individuals. Prognostication of future events is neither prevision, nor prophecy: it is simply occult knowledge and mathematically correct computations that enable the wise men of the East to foretell, for instance, that the British Isles are on the eve of being destroyed by submarine volcanos and water, followed by France and other European countries, led by their own cycles of racial Karma.

Triune Law Governs Universe and Man by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

The three hypostases of Universal Law are: 1. Karma-action makes the world go ’round. 2. Yajna-compassion / sacrifice is the very first conscious yearning. 3. Yugas-cycles are subservient to Karma. Motion is Nous and vice versa. From Chaos Nous was born to bring order. Madame Blavatsky quoting Plato on the motion that is able to move itself. Cicero quoting Plato on That which is always moved, being eternal. Taylor commenting on Plato’s rational soul that imparts well-being to itself, when it cultivates and perfects itself. Motion is unmanifested and manifested. Motion unmanifested is Parabrahman, Eternal Universal Motion. It is the Eternal Breath “which knows itself not,” Absolute Motion. When Motion is about to be manifested (First to Second Logos), the Eternal Breath thrills through the first manifested Atom (Monad), or “Æthereal Vibrations diffused throughout Space,” which is the Central Point (Unmanifested Logos) in the circle. Motion manifested (Third Logos) is the Ideal World. It is one everlasting perpetual motion of vortical vibrations. Motion becomes apparent in the Material World — ceaseless eternal vibration: rapid in the inorganic, slow in the organic. Deity is Law and vice versa. Matter is Nature and vice versa, She is the vessel or soul of spirit. Generation is not a “Creation” of Life, but a production of things to Sense, and making them manifest. Neither is Change Death, but an Occultation or hiding of that which was. Nature is uncontrolled by proud masters. She runs the universe by herself without the aid of gods. But Earth is our mother and kind nurse. Cyclic Law makes empires rise and fall, ever alternating periods of fat and slender cows, for all. Consciousness evolves spirally in curves that never re-enter into themselves. At certain periods, a preview of Its consummation may be glimpsed.

Transmigration, Reincarnation, Gilgulim by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Transmigration is the passing of lower entities, through the agency of life-atoms (skandas), to the crucible of evolution, either by “recycling” life-atoms after death, or by throwing away life-atoms during intense feeling. Metempsychosis is the progress of an animal soul to a higher stage of existence. Metangismos was the technical term for metempsychosis among the Pythagoreans. Reincarnation is the rebirth of the same Ego in successive human bodies. Metempsychosis, Setting A. A virtuous, but not entirely pure, soul withdraws to high realms of subjectivity for a period of rest before submitting to a further period of imprisonment in the flesh. Metempsychosis, Setting B. A virtuous soul, purified by “self-induced and self-devised efforts,” realises its essential unity with the Self of All, and annihilates its self-conscious materiality in favour of the true peace and justice that dwells in Unconscious Immateriality. Metempsychosis, Setting C. An irredeemably vicious soul that has been cut off from its Spiritual Master and Saviour, is downgraded to infernal worlds for punishment and terminal demise. Human souls do not enter animal bodies, for Nature will not reverse the order of her kingdoms. Only the life-atoms of a dissolved physical body do so. Reincarnation means re-infleshment. Palingenesis means re-generation. Metensomatosis means re-embodiment. The difference between reincarnation, palingenesis, and metensomatosis explained. Gilgulim, permutation, and revolution, differ from transmigration and metempsychosis. Gilgulim is the cyclic or revolving process of births, deaths, and rebirths. But Palestine is neither land nor locus, it is the Nirvana of the Buddhists.

Agnosticism, Atheism, Monism by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Agnosticism is the modern variation on the ancient theme of the Greek philosopher, “All I know is that I know nothing.” Agnosticism is lack of reason, nescience rather than ignorance. Having found gnosis we cannot turn our backs on it and become agnostics, says a Master of Wisdom. The strong Agnostic assumes the negative position of knowing nothing but phenomena and refuses to believe in anything else. The weak Agnostic may be ready to entertain new ideas, but the light of Truth will always blind the religious bigot. With the exception of psychism, every other –ism is a shade of materialism — a science without a soul. Ancient pagans held far deeper views on the First Cause and its emanations than modern philosophers, whether Agnostics, Materialists or Christians. Agnostics have to choose between the Secret Doctrine of the East, and the materialistic Darwinian and Biblical Doctrines of the West. Agnosticism, Positivism, and Materialism are the worst enemies of Theosophy and Mysticism. Much of current agnostic speculation on the existence of the First Cause is little better than veiled Materialism. Between Agnostics and Catholics, the age revels at a debauch of phenomena. Brutal but frank Materialism is more honest than Janus-faced agnosticism in our days. Monism is no better than a mask concealing the void of final annihilation, even of consciousness. The Occultist would be guilty of treason, were he to demolish the old gods before he could replace them with the eternal verities that they represent. Atheists and Agnostics are thinly attracted to “godless” Buddhism, or to our highly philosophical and logical agnosticism. The “moral standard of the Theosophists” is TRUTH and this covers all. No sincere seeker of Truth can ever be found among the blind believers in the “Divine Word.” Our doctrine knows no compromises. It either affirms or denies, for it never teaches but that which it knows to be Truth.

Man is the sole author of his fortune and future by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Samuel Taylor Coleridge Pdf

Love, inner light, and calm thoughts, are far more precious than thrones, titles, and gilded chains. Courage increases the chances of success by creating opportunities, and always availing itself of them. In this sense, Fortune may be said to favour fools by those who, however prudent in their own opinion, are deficient in valour and enterprise. A good and wise man, for whom the praises of the judicious have procured a high reputation, proposes to himself certain objects, and adapting the right means to the right end attains them; but his objects, not being what the world calls fortune, neither money nor worldly rank, his admitted inferiors in moral and intellectual worth — but more prosperous in their worldly concerns — are said to have been favoured by fortune and be slighted. The moon waxes and wanes according to law; the clouds likewise, and all the manifold appearances connected with them are governed by certain laws no less than the phases of the moon. But the laws which determine the latter are known and calculable, while those of the former are hidden from us. When the sky is covered with black clouds, I am walking on in the dark, aware of no particular danger: all of a sudden, a gust of wind rends the cloud for a moment, and the moon emerging discloses to me a chasm or precipice, to the very brink of which I had advanced my foot. How lucky! How providential! Karma is the vessel of our person and character. Belief in the Law of Karma instils personal responsibility — a fruit from the past, a seed for the future. When one sees the inequalities of birth and fortune, of intellect and capacities, of the honour paid to fools and profligates, on whom fortune has heaped her favours by mere privilege of birth, and their nearest neighbour, with all his intellect and noble virtue perishing of want and for lack of sympathy. When one sees all this and has to turn away, helpless to relieve the undeserved suffering, his heart aching with the cries of pain around him — that blessed knowledge of Karma alone will prevent him from cursing life and men, as well as their supposed “creator.”

Kosmos and Cosmos by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Kosmos is Abstract and Formless, because Homogeneous and Impartite, vehicle of all Universes to be. Cosmos is Receptive Nature or concrete World of Forms seemingly fragmented, “no better than an aberration of the ever-deceiving physical senses.” Kosmos is Boundless, because Omnipresent and Changeless. Cosmos is Finite, Impermanent, Self-modifying World. Kosmos is directed and controlled by the “Army” of Divine Sentient Beings. Cosmos is built and ruled by Sidereal Planetary Spirits and Deities. Kosmos is Eternal (Spiritual) Egg and Womb or Matri-Padma, Mother Lotus, of all Worlds to be. Cosmos is the Periodical (Mundane) Egg of our World fructified, yet immaculate, when a ray from the First Logos flashes from the latent Germ in the Heart of the Eternal. Kosmos is ever-concealed, unknown and unknowable noumena. Cosmos is perceptions and visible phenomena after a “Night of Brahma.” Kosmos is the “Father” Concealed and Unmanifested, the “Unknown God” of the Athenians. Cosmos is Plato’s Second God, giving birth to a “Son” or Universe.

Remembrance, Recollection, Reminiscence by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

As immortality is the stability of life, and eternity the stability of being, so memory is the stability of knowledge. The faculty of memory depends on a fully functioning brain. Remembrance and recollection are the attributes and handmaidens of that memory. An idea recurring spontaneously is remembrance; when searched and retrieved by effortful thinking, recollection. While memory is physical and evanescent, for it depends upon the condition of the brain, reminiscence is the memory of the soul. Memory is the only faculty in man directly opposed to prognostication, or looking into futurity. Memory is one thing, and mind (i.e., thoughts) is another; the one is a recording machine, a register which very easily gets out of order; the other, thoughts, which are eternal and imperishable. Memory is an important power, but the mind itself is not memory, it is restless and wandering in its nature, and must be controlled. Phantasy is uncontrolled remembrance of past thoughts and images. Phantasy is the most unreliable thing in us. Phantasy stifles enthusiasm. Phantasy is an impediment to our spiritual perceptions. When the mind is inspired by the spirit above, if phantasy intervenes, the enthusiastic energy ceases; for enthusiasm and ecstasy are contrary to each other. Conviction breeds enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the genius of sincerity. The enthusiastic passion is a kind of fury, partaking something of divine inspiration. But it is not called forth from within, it is an insufflation from some stronger power from without, thus bringing about a disturbance of the rational mind. What we have within, that only can we see without and thus, by summoning the forgotten knowledge from Lethe, we may re-enter into the heavenly vault.

Budhism is Inner Wisdom by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Sinnett’s “Esoteric Buddhism” was an excellent work with a very unfortunate title. Esoteric BuDhism (spelled with one D), or Inner Wisdom (Sophia, in Greek), is a pre-Vedic term millennia older than 643 BCE, the year Siddhartha Gautama, Prince of Kapilavastu, was born. It has nothing to do with the BuDDhist religion whatsoever. An agnostic student of Theosophy puzzled by “Esoteric Buddhism.” Puzzle solved by Madame Blavatsky BuDDhism, the religious system of ethics preached by Lord Gautama and named after his title of BuDDha, the “Enlightened,” and BuDha or Inner Wisdom are totally unrelated terms. Long kalpas had passed before the epithet of Buddha became so humanised, as to allow the term to be applied to mortals and, finally, to Siddhartha Gautama. BuDhism is Archaic Wisdom-Religion. It reconciles all religions, strips every one of its outward, human garments, and shows the root of each to be identical with that of every other great religion. It proves the necessity of an immutable Divine Principle in nature but rejects the gods of monotheistic religions, sorry caricatures created by man in his own image and likeness. Truth is its god and dogma. Orthodox, Exoteric BuDDhism, or the public teachings of Gautama Buddha, differ greatly from the Secret Doctrine, or Esoteric BuDhism, that he had reserved for the initiated Brahmans of his day and his Arhats. Sinnett defends his “Esoteric Buddhism.” Though “Esoteric Buddhism” preceded “Isis Unveiled” and “The Secret Doctrine,” its contents are not original. His letter to “Lucifer,” annotated by Madame Blavatsky in her capacity as Editor of Lucifer.” Theosophy is not BuDDhism, whether Exoteric or Esoteric. Bodhi and Sophia are one and the same, supersensuous wisdom from within. Bodha, Bodhi, Buddha, Buddhi are one and the same, Divine Wisdom.
