Women's Travel in Your Pocket is a lifeline to women's hotels, restaurants, discos, bars, feminist bookstores, lesbian centers, and lesbian hotlines across the globe, but that's just part of the story. The book's Calendar section lists hundreds of women's events, women's festivals, and mixed gaylesbian events worldwide, as well as departure dates for women's tours, resort vacations, and outdoor adventure trips. A special section describes the tour companies in detail, and a mail-order section includes a listing of all kinds of companies that tailor their products and services to women and lesbians. Compact enough to fit in a pocket or -- for "lipstick lesbians" -- a purse, it features unique national" gay-lesbian symbols that provide important details about bars and other business. Thoroughly revised, this 19th edition of Women's Travel in Your Pocket is astonishingly up-to-date, with listings added and/or revised as little as two weeks before press time.

Immigrants and Foreigners in Central and Eastern Europe during the Twentieth Century by Włodzimierz Borodziej,Joachim von Puttkamer Pdf

Immigrants and Foreigners in Central and Eastern Europe during the Twentieth Century challenges widespread conceptions of Central and Eastern European countries as merely countries of origin. It sheds light on their experience of immigration and the establishment of refugee regimes at different stages in the history of the region. The book brings together a variety of case studies on Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia, and the experiences of return migrants from the United States, displaced Hungarian Jews, desperate German social democrats, resettled Magyars, resourceful tourists, labour migrants, and Zionists. In doing so, it highlights and explores the variety of experience across different forms of immigration and discusses its broader social and political framework. Presenting the challenges within the history of immigration in Eastern Europe and considering both immigration to the region and emigration from it, Immigrants and Foreigners in Central and Eastern Europe during the Twentieth Century provides a new perspective on, and contribution to, this ongoing subject of debate.

From the Edge of Empire by Ian Hume Pdf

This tells of why and how a young Rhodesian army Captain decided in 1963 not to fight the oncoming war over majority rule. His future unknown, he leaves the country for studies in Cape Town; marries; wins a Beit Fellowship to Oxford; and is recruited to a career at the World Bank. In time he becomes an expert on Eastern Europe. Invited home in 1975 to help prepare Rhodesia's transition to Zimbabwe, he spends three years living through the very war he chose to avoid. Rejoining the Bank, he works on Hungary and, in a unique period after communism fell in 1989, he lives in Poland as Resident Representative. A man of two transitions, he explains how they are separate but ironically linked. His book, a testament to the value of education and the power of family, is written as a memoir to his grandchildren. Now himself a proud American, he offers them a world view-what he calls a moral equilibrium- to harmonize their vexed heritage with today's divided America. Happy with his life, he regrets the outcomes in the country he left. He describes a different path to majority rule his countrymen could have taken, instead of herd-think support of Ian Smith's UDI and war. Had they done so, both the war as well as the brutality, corruption and devastation of Mugabe's Zimbabwe could well have been avoided. As a life's message to his grandchildren, he exhorts them not to make similar mistakes: beware the herd; think for yourself.
