Automation of America's Offices, 1985-2000 by Congress of the U.S., Washington, DC. Office of Technology Assessment Pdf
This study assesses the consequences of the continuing and rapid introduction of information and telecommunications technologies in offices. The report of the study contains 12 chapters. After a brief look at the context of office automation from the perspective of history, the first chapter highlights some expectations about the technologies and their development over the next 15 years. It also introduces a framework that guides the assessment, summarizes the findings, and identifies policy issues for the next decade. Chapters 2 through 6 discuss the possible effects of office automation in more detail. They deal with potential effects on employment levels; the kind of training and education needed for office work; changes in work content, jobs, occupations, and organizations; the quality of work life, the office environment and labor management relations; and the security and confidentiality of information. Chapters 7 and 8 consider two alternatives to conventional offices, made feasible by office automation: home-based work and performance of data-entry operations in countries with lower paid workers. Chapter 9 and 10 look at office automation in the public sector, while Chapter 11 deals with office automation and small businesses. The final chapter considers the implications of office automation for two groups: working women and minorities. Appendix A describes office automation technology as it is now and as it is likely to develop between 1985 and 2000, while Appendix B summarizes case studies of the automation of several offices. Modern Management of Enterprises by Henry K. Junckerstorff Pdf
This study is written first of all for the European manager who needs more information on the subject than ever before. The American science of management as a whole is scarcely known in Western Europe although many details have been learned and put to use. A general approach, however, is needed. I have tried therefore to develop the main aspects in this field seen against the background of the national sciences and its characteristics. Thus the scientist will find an approach which as yet has never been offered before and he will be faced with a challenge to help setting up a science of management on a universal scale. ACKNOWLEDGMENT The author wishes to express his appreciation to his colleagues, associates and staff for their contributions of time and effort. To some extent acknowledgment is made in the footnotes and in the bibliography. Particular mention must be made for the generous offering of time and effort expended by Mr. Louis Erbs, M. S. in c., and Mr. Philip Degnan, Jr., B.S. LC/MS Applications in Drug Development by Mike S. Lee Pdf
Breakthroughs in combinatorial chemistry and molecular biology, as well as an overall industry trend toward accelerated development, mean the rate of sample generation now far exceeds the rate of sample analysis in the pursuit of producing new and better pharmaceuticals. LC/MS is an analytical tool that helps the researcher identify the most promising sample early in the selection process, effectively creating a shortcut to finding new drugs. This book is the first to describe LC/MS applications within the context of drug development, including the discovery, preclinical, clinical, and manufacturing phases. In addition to the thorough technical analysis of this tool, LC/MS Applications in Drug Development provides perspective on the significant changes in strategies for pharmaceutical analysis. A process overview of drug development from an analytical point of view is provided along with essential data required to successfully bring a drug to market. The incorporation of LC/MS is illustrated from target to product. Chapters pertaining to the discovery process itself include: Proteomics Glycoprotein Mapping Natural Products Dereplication Lead Identification Screening Open-Access LC/MS In Vitro Drug Screening Written for both the analytical chemist who uses LC/MS applications and the pharmaceutical scientist who works with the drugs they produce, LC/MS Applications in Drug Development is the premier reference on the subject.
