Blaise Cendrars' narrative about his life-changing journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway is a poem of memory and movement. Sonia Delaunay's designs create a parallel path as the reader slips down the palette while swimming through a river of words.

Fernand Léger by Fernand Léger,Carolyn Lanchner,Jodi Hauptman,Matthew Affron,Museum of Modern Art (New York, N.Y.) Pdf

Fernand Leger (1881-1955) is the only modern artist to choose modernity itself as his subject. From his early series Contrastes de formes (1913-14), the first fully abstract works to emerge from Cubism, through his last realistic paintings of construction workers from the early 1950s, Leger's lifelong subject was the pulse and dynamism of contemporary life.

Inventing Abstraction, 1910-1925 by Leah Dickerman,Matthew Affron Pdf

This book explores the development of abstraction from the moment of its declaration around 1912 to its establishment as the foundation of avant-garde practice in the mid-1920s. The book brings together many of the most influential works in abstractions early history to draw a cross-media portrait of this watershed moment in which traditional art was reinvented in a wholesale way. Works are presented in groups that serve as case studies, each engaging a key topic in abstractions first years: an artist, a movement, an exhibition or thematic concern. Key focal points include Vasily Kandinskys ambitious Compositions V, VI and VII; a selection of Piet Mondrians work that offers a distilled narrative of his trajectory to Neo-plasticism; and all the extant Suprematist pictures that Kazimir Malevich showed in the landmark 0.10 exhibition in 1915.0Exhibition: MoMA, New York, USA (23.12.2012-15.4.2013).

The Futurist Moment by Marjorie Perloff Pdf

This volume examines the flourishing of Futurist aesthetics in the European art and literature of the early twentieth century. Futurism was an artistic and social movement that was largely an Italian phenomenon, though there were parallel movements in Russia, England and elsewhere. The Futurists admired speed, technology, youth and violence, the car, the airplane and the industrial city, all that represented the technological triumph of humanity over nature. This work looks at the prose, visual art, poetry, and the manifestos of Futurists from Russia to Italy. The author reveals the Moment's impulses and operations, tracing its echoes through the years to the work of "postmodern" figures like Roland Barthes. This updated edition reexamines the Futurist Moment in the light of a new century, in which Futurist aesthetics seem to have steadily more to say to the present

Drop Dead Gorgeous by Kitty Maryatt Pdf

About the exhibition :: The remarkable book by poet Blaise Cendrars and artist Sonia Delaunay, La Prose du Transsibérien et de la petite Jehanne de France, was produced by letterpress and pochoir in 1913. It was a landmark achievement for its time with its unprecedented format, avant-garde typography and abstract imagery, and remains vibrant and modern today. Kitty Maryatt of Two Hands Press has been researching the production of La Prose du Transsibérien since 2012. In 2018, she debuted a new edition of 150 copies, which faithfully incorporates techniques and methods used in the original. At the same time, Maryatt and her underwriters commissioned fine bindings by notable design binders from around the world. These bindings, along with Maryatt's La Prose du Transsibérien Re-Creation, have resulted in a traveling exhibition titled Drop Dead Gorgeous: Fine Bindings of La Prose du Transsibérien Re-creation. Debuting in San Francisco, the exhibition will feature the work of twenty-four design binders, including Don Glaister, Monique Lallier, Midori Kunikata-Cockram and Julian Thomas. Tools, materials, and supplemental material used in the creation of Maryatt's edition of La Prose will also be on display. Upon closing in San Francisco in October, the exhibition travels to additional venues in the United States, Canada and England.
