Into Kokerboom Country by Phyllis Jowell,Adrienne Folb Pdf

Into Kokerboom Country tells the story, with many fascinating historical photographs previously unpublished, of the Jewish pioneers who, like the kokerboom, dug their roots into the sandy soil of Namaqualand. They transformed their situation from penniless immigrants to established citizens and in the process left 'diep spore' in this remote and isolated region of South Africa. It is a chronicle about a small group of immigrants who sought freedom and economic opportunity in a remote and arid corner of South Africa. Their determination to succeed in carving out a life for themselves and their families is described in a history spanning 120 years, from the mid-1850s to the late 1970s. The Namaqualand Jewish story epitomises the trials, triumphs, challenges and joys of so many Jewish communities throughout the country, and indeed the world. It celebrates the rich cultural history and moral substance of these early pioneers, who remained committed to their Jewish traditions under extremely difficult circumstances. With evocative photographs, original research and colourful memoirs, this is an extraordinary account of courage, fortitude and acculturation.

King James Bible by Gordon Campbell Pdf

Oxford is proud to publish a limited edition of the 1611 text of the King James Bible, with real leather binding, gilt edging, ribbon marker, gift presentation plate, and protective cloth slipcase. This is the most authoritative edition of the King James Bible available. The text of the 1611 edition differs from modern editions of the King James Version in thousands of details, and this edition is the most authentic version of the original text that has ever been published. It follows the 1611 text page-for-page and line-for-line, reproducing all misprints rather than correcting them. The volume also reprints the large body of preliminary matter, which includes genealogies, maps, and lists of readings, as well as the translator's preface to the reader. The text features an easy-to-read modern font instead of the black-letter type of the original, with the exception of the original decorative letters and early page ornaments, which have been reproduced. The volume concludes with an essay by Renaissance Studies expert, Gordon Campbell, on the first edition of the King James Bible. This beautiful Anniversary Edition is an elegant keepsake as well as a marvelous gift for anyone interested in the Bible.

The Royal Inscriptions of Esarhaddon, King of Assyria (680–669 BC) by Erle Leichty Pdf

The Royal Inscription of Esarhaddon, King of Assyria (680–669 BC) is the inaugural volume of the Royal Inscriptions of the Neo-Assyrian Period Project. The volume provides reliable, up-to-date editions of all of the known royal inscriptions of Esarhaddon, a son of Sennacherib who ruled Assyria for twelve years (680–669 BC). Editions of 143 firmly identifiable texts (which mostly describe successful battles and the completion of building projects, all done ad maiorem gloriam deorum), 29 poorly preserved late Neo-Assyrian inscriptions that may be attributed to him, and 10 inscriptions commissioned by his mother Naqia (Zakutu) and his wife Esharra-hammat are included. To make this corpus more user-friendly to both specialist and laymen, each text edition (with its English translation) is supplied with a brief introduction containing general information, a catalogue containing basic information about all exemplars, a commentary containing further technical information and notes, and a comprehensive bibliography (arranged chronologically from earliest to latest). The volume also includes: (1) a general introduction to the reign of Esarhaddon, the corpus of inscriptions, previous studies, and dating and chronology; (2) translations of the relevant passages of three Mesopotamian chronicles; (3) 19 photographs of objects inscribed with texts of Esarhaddon; (4) indexes of museum and excavation numbers and selected publications; and (5) indexes of proper names (Personal Names; Geographic, Ethnic, and Tribal Names; Divine, Planet, and Star Names; Gate, Palace, Temple, and Wall Names; and Object Names). The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM containing transliterations of selected inscriptions arranged in a ‘musical score’ format. The Royal Inscriptions of the Neo-Assyrian Period (RINAP) series will present up-to-date editions of the royal inscriptions of a number of late Neo-Assyrian rulers, beginning with Tiglath-pileser III (744–727 BC). This new series is modeled on the publications of the now-defunct Royal Inscriptions of Mesopotamia (RIM) series and will carry on where its RIMA (Royal Inscriptions of Mesopotamia, Assyrian Periods) publications ended. The project is under the direction of G. Frame (University of Pennsylvania) and is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

One Week Bible KJV Parallel by Dr. Dustin Joel Massingale Pdf

Why read a paraphrased Summary of the Bible when you can read actual Scripture? In only seven days, reading ten to twenty minutes each day, gather a greater understanding of the Holy Bible. From the editor: "One Week Bible" is the only work I've seen of it's kind. Dr. Massingale concisely sheds light and clarity on Biblical principles in a personal manner that is easily attainable and relevant. The beauty of this survey is its simplicity. Dr. Massingale does not presume to deliver acamedic commentary which one can find from a number of other sources. Instead, he offers a summation of the word of God to laymen and points to the scriptures themselves as his sole inspiration rather than repackaging other perspectives. Readers can anticipate the book to be a companion to accompany and encourage them on their intimate walk with Christ. -Daniel Kennedy From the Xulon Press editorial staff: The author compiles an innovative summary of the Bible in an easy to access and organized format. The book includes useful prayers that encourage readers to utilize a variety of themes and reflect on verses as they meditate on scriptural content. The combination of the author's passion for Scripture, his education and conviction in the introduction will immediately inspire readers to explore this reference tool. Additional Features Include: Author Inspiration A Brief History of English Bible Translations Plan of Salvation Why Can We Believe the Bible (new) CEB Footnotes (new) Bible Answers to Commonly Asked Questions Suggestions for Further Study

Borderline by William Dicey Pdf

Readers are taken on a fascinating journey down the Orange River in South Africa in this travelogue that interweaves historical detail from the places the author visits with the history of South Africa as a whole. Augmented with the author's own photographs, this is a document of discovery, much like the source material that Dicey himself quotes from-the first European explorers of the South African interior. But unlike early depictions of outlandish animals and men, Dicey's travelogue investigates the waves of human occupation-the San, the Nama, the Griqua, and the Basters-and the subsequent fallout as the indigenous people were moved off their land around the Orange River.
