The Essential Classics for Leaders by Sun Tzu,Marcus Aurelius,Niccolo Machiavelli,Nicholas Tamblyn,Lao Tzu Pdf

Presenting The Essential Classics for Leaders: Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, and The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli with an introduction by Nicholas Tamblyn, and illustrations by Katherine Eglund. This collection is part of The Essential Series by Golding Books. There are certain books of antiquity that have risen to the status of required readings for those interested in effective leadership. The Tao Te Ching, The Art of War, Meditations, and The Prince have achieved this rare renown, influencing countless changemakers and leaders throughout history. A leader will be faced with all kinds of challenges, some unforeseen. These texts emphasize that the best way to command or sway others is through a prudence that does not always err on the side of leniency or severity, but rather on that of knowledge and flexibility. Along with strength of character, an effective leader also possesses the ability to adapt and therefore to take informed, needful, and decisive action. Both Taoism and Machiavellianism note that personal development and, by extension, business management are essentially careful thought followed by swift action. If you are focused on becoming a leader and seek words of wisdom and encouragement on how to lead, the teachings of classic Eastern philosophy (or Chinese philosophy), ancient Roman philosophy and more recent Italian philosophy each have something powerful to teach us. This inspirational collection is the perfect great leader gift for women and men, bosses and employees and the experienced as well as up and comers, rare among leadership books for young adults, ambitious teens, or those long in the workforce). Lao Tzu was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer born in the 6th-5th century BCE, reputed author of the Tao Te Ching (published 6th Century BCE) and founder of the School of the Tao or Taoism. The main source of information on Lao Tzu's life is a biography written by the historian Sima Qian (145-86 BCE), where he referred to earlier accounts, such as one noting that Lao Tzu was a contemporary of Confucius. However, some scholars doubt the historicity of Lao Tzu, and so his life, if he existed, remains shrouded in mystery. Sun Tzu was an ancient Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher, who is believed to have written the famous ancient book on military strategy, The Art of War. He lived in the Spring and Autumn period of ancient China, and his birth year is given by tradition as 544 BC. While the book has become immensely popular through to today, there is little to no certainty about Sun Tzu's claim to its authorship, or the veracity of details about his life. Marcus Aurelius was born in 121 in Rome. His original name was Marcus Annius Verus, and he was born into a wealthy and political family. A dedicated student, he became a Stoic, a philosophy which emphasized self-restraint, fate, and reason. He was chosen by Emperor Hadrian to be his eventual successor, and in 161, Aurelius took control of the Roman Empire along with his brother Verus, assuming the name Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. His rule suffered the threat of war and disease, and, while Rome was held, his rule weakened after the death of his brother. His son Commodus became co-ruler in 177 (having been named Caesar in 166), and Aurelius died after a repeated bout of illness in 180. Niccolò Machiavelli was born in 1469 in Florence, Italy. He was a diplomat for fourteen years in the Florentine Republic during the Medici family's exile. When the Medicis returned to power in 1512, he was dismissed and jailed for three weeks, during which time he was subjected to the "strappado," or ropes used for hanging torture. He wrote The Prince, a political handbook for self-serving and ruthless leaders that became a philosophy classic on leadership, in 1532. He died in Florence in 1527.

The Leadership Bible by Mitch Horowitz Pdf

WHAT MAKES A LEADER? “Leadership is an elusive concept. Nearly everyone is certain that he or she would like the mantle of leadership—whether at home, at work, in competitive events, or all three—but we rarely think through the implications. One of the first questions that requires asking is: Who do you seek to lead and why?” With the opening words of his introduction, popular voice of alternative spiri¬tuality Mitch Horowitz begins his journey into some of history’s greatest ideas and insights about what makes a leader—and what is required of you to earn that appellation. These works are designed to help you distinguish between function¬ing as a mere boss and being a true leader, a title to which many aspire but few understand. The insights in The Leadership Bible help place you among the few. In this collection, Mitch assembles: “LEADERSHIP” by Major C.A. The Complete Strategy Collection by Niccolo Machiavelli,Miyamoto Musashi,Carol Clausewitz,Kautilya Chanakya,Sun Tzu Pdf

The Complete Strategy Collection, a compilation of ancient and historical philosophies, will increase your knowledge of strategy, conflict, and adversity throughout the ages, giving you valuable insight into the past while opening a window to the future. Although each of the works can be considered a manual or diagram for war or engaging in physical combat, the life skills embodied in each can be adapted to everyday life in modern society. Story 1 - The Art of War Whether used on the battlefield or the boardroom, the strategic techniques defined by Sun Tzu in this ancient, classic book will teach you how to gain advantages over your opponents and adversaries. As a military strategist, Sun Tzu carefully explains how to engage in conflict, strategies that ensure you emerge as the victor, and how to maintain a position of power. These tactics can be used even in a person's everyday life today to navigate family, relationships, career, and business. Story 2 - The Prince Considered to be satire by some and a manual for ruling by others, The Prince provides practical, relatable advice addressing power struggles, building and maintaining relationships, and the advantages of acting according to virtue. Machiavelli, born during a time of intense political and religious conflict in Italy, outlines the strategies and influences appropriate of the times. In his attempts at self-promotion, the author aggressively pursues the approval and favor of then-governor Lorenzo de' Medici, to be later criticized for his work. The Prince embodies the discipline, decision-making, and authority of the ruling class common during this period. Story 3 - The Book of Five Rings Originally written as a book of martial arts and strategy, the principles as defined by author Miyamoto Musashi have been adapted to be used in business, to manage conflict, and as a philosophy for life. Although written as strategies applicable to the adversity of the 17th Century, the philosophies overwhelmingly apply in a practical way to the world today, including timing, dishonesty, discipline, flexibility, spirituality, and mastering the balance of each. Story 4 - On War Purpose, goal, and means are the foundation of politics, war, and conflict as defined by the author. Although Carl von Clausewitz never had the opportunity to finish the manuscript, the collected works of On War represent his theoretical ideologies about war, military strategy, and leadership and his philosophy that innate human morals play a significant role in the outcome of adversity. Clausewitz theorizes that motivations, objectives, and emotions influence the delicate balance of power and politics. Story 5 - Arthashastra A wealth of knowledge and information, Arthashastra, is credited as the foundation of government, economics, and law. Compiled of various manuscripts and treatises throughout thousands of years, this ancient script defines philosophies for a broad range of modern traditions, policies, and strategies, including the economy, social welfare, the court system, theories on war and peace, civic duty, and obligations of a king. The wisdom contained in each of these individual works is now dedicated to the world Public Domain.
