Christian Education Leadership by Judy Morris D Min,Barbara Newman M a,Doug Powell Ph D Pdf

Book Description: The collective work of twenty Christian leaders known for their expertise in Christian education, this book is an up-to-date, comprehensive resource on Christian education, with the emphasis on making disciples as Jesus instructed. This volume addresses spiritual formation for all age groups and gives guidance on how to develop an effective church discipleship ministry. The book shows church leaders how to provide for the spiritual formation of all age groups, including people with special needs, who are often neglected. The aim of the book is to forge a strong connection between what happens on Sunday and how people live every day. The goal is discipleship, stressing how to develop a congregation that is on mission rather than merely a group of people who convene on Sundays. The book contains a strong emphasis on missions as an integral part of church identity and activity. Church leadership must provide ways for growing and encouraging disciples in being on a mission for Christ. At the core of the book is Jesus' command to his disciples, including church leaders today, "Go . . . and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20, NASB). As we enter the third millennia of the Christian church, church leaders must learn and practice ways to truly obey Jesus' command. This comprehensive book provides guidance and inspiration for doing that. The Christian leaders who authored this resource also point to the urgent need to equip and involve lay people in all the work of the church. The authors call for church leaders to involve church members in planning, decision-making, and action rather than to promote, on purpose or by default, a spectator mentality. Citing Ephesians 4:11-12, the authors emphasize that a church's staff members exist to equip and deploy all believers in the mission and ministry of Christ. The book stresses guiding Christian leaders to move their church from a school-with-pews mentality to a place that heeds the biblical call to develop disciples. Instead of just maintaining members, church leaders must focus on making disciples in order for their congregation to be on a mission as a vibrant force for change in their community and around the world. WHO NEEDS THIS BOOK? University and seminary professors will find this volume a good choice for a textbook for preparing ministers for church ministry. It will also be a valuable tool for pastors, general staff leaders, and practitioners for the various age group staff and key volunteer leaders in the local churches.

Understanding and Developing Theological Education by Bernhard Ott Pdf

Historically education has been driven from behind – the history, and above – the educational institution. Traditions and adherence requirements have led to inflexible models of school leadership that are focused on administration and rife with educational politics. In contrast, today’s theological landscape needs institutions with a grassroots-driven educational system, looking to a future that is biblically and theologically grounded. This publication, an English translation from the original German focuses on the leadership and curriculum development required for such a paradigm shift. Ott comprehensively assesses trends in current theological education across the world with detailed reference to wider trends in global tertiary education. Written primarily for those in leadership roles at theological schools and training institutions, this handbook is an essential resource for equipping the next generation of leaders in theological education.

Leadership, God’s Agency, and Disruptions by Mark Lau Branson,Alan J. Roxburgh Pdf

Leaders in congregations and Christian organizations wrestle with an unraveling of the world in which they have little experience and training. While they are offered unending resources by experts on leadership, some with claims to biblical blueprints, the challenges seem mismatched to those methods. Branson and Roxburgh frame the situation as one in which "modernity's wager"--the conviction that God is not necessary for life and wisdom and meaning--has defined the Western imagination. Because churches and leaders are colonized by this ethos, even when God is named and beliefs are claimed, approaches to leadership are blind to God's agency. Branson and Roxburgh approach this challenge as a work in practical theology, attending to our cultural context, narratives of God's disruptive initiatives in Scripture, and a reshaping of leadership theories with a priority on God's agency. With years of experience as teachers, consultants, and guides, they name practices which lead to more faithful participation. Leadership, God's Agency, and Disruption is wide-ranging in cultural and biblical scholarship, challenging in its engagement with numerous leadership studies, and practical with its focus toward the on-the-ground life of churches and organizations.

Reenvisioning Theological Education by Robert Banks Pdf

A top leadership theorist offers a compelling proposal for renovating the way religious education is practiced today. Christian colleges and seminaries have not been immune from the cultural influences shaping contemporary education. Challenging the conventional wisdom advanced by the educational debate during the last fifteen years, Robert Banks builds an innovative new model of theological education based on how ministry formation took place in biblical times. Banks takes full account of key issues raised by our current educational context and shows how a "missional model" of education is more holistic, inclusive, and practical than recent versions.

Theological Education and Theology of Life by Atola Longkumer,Huang Po Ho,Uta Andree Pdf

Dietrich Werner has been an important person for many, and so also for me in various aspects. Encounters and experiences are, initially, very personal. However, browsing through the chapters of this book, with its marvellous diversity of authors, women and men, persons from North and South, East and West, of different confessions and theological convictions, each one of which has known Dietrich Werner in his or her own special way, it seems to me that the same kind of experiences resound among them. Thus, a quite representative picture emerges of Dietrich's engagement and ability dedicated to the mission of ecumenical theological education over the past thirty years: as a networker, author, teacher and mentor, and, not least, a caring pastor and worker in God's mission toward life in abundance for all. Among his own mentors were great ecumenists like Samuel Amirtham and Konrad Raiser, and his engagement was forged in the early 1980s when contextualization and ecumenicity of theological education where at their height. In his indefatigable passion and apostolic conviction Dietrich never let himself be demotivated by less favourable times, called by some an ecumenical winter, and indeed has always continued to motivate others not to give up their part in God's mission through a meaningful and contextualized ecumenical theological education. I humbly and gladly join the choir of those who express their thanks and appreciation to Dietrich for all he has given to us, and commend this Festschrift as an academically insightful and spiritually meaningful sign of gratitude, respect and willingness to carry the cause onwards. From the Foreword by Rev. Prof. Dr. Rudolf von Sinner, Moderator, World Council of Churches' Commission on Ecumenical Education and Formation 2014-20 This is a useful collection of essays that will stand as a testament to the contribution of Dietrich Werner to both the study of World Christianity and Mission. Werner has worked both as an academic and practitioner as far as the history of Christian mission is concerned. This is a timely and heartwarming collection that virtually immortalises his legacy among us. Rev. Prof. J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, Ghana Atola Longkumer is a professor of Religions and Missions at the South Asian Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS) Bangalore, India. Po Ho Huang is professor of theology and vice president of Chang Jung Christian University, Tainan, Taiwan. Uta Andree is the director of the Academy of Mission at the University of Hamburg, Germany.
