CHAPTER ONE page 4 Chapter One contains 12 Original Psaltery Practice Sheets intended to familiarize Psaltery Players with an ability to interact with musicians playing solo parts. The Musical Scores in this chapter were written specifically for the Psaltery by a Psaltery Player. All note symbols are marked with letter notations located directly below them for beginning Psaltery Players that are familiar with their instrument and playing techniques as also described in the book 'LEARN TO PLAY THE PSALTERY' by Caroline Gilmore. In that manual, students are given just enough basic information on music theory to be able to play in tune and on time without needing an ability to read music. Students are encouraged to play notes as marked in each score in Chapter One before moving on to the next arrangement in the first chapter of this learning manual. Students must learn their parts to perfection before engaging with other band members or singers in order achieve the full value of their inter active part for each song. Once the Psaltery Player feels comfortable with orchestrating their entire accompanying arrangement, as provided in Chapter One and are able to read the music easily, then they are encouraged to move on to Chapter Two to begin practice reading Melody Lines and Lead Sheets. Lead sheets in Chapter Two do not contain letter notations for musical symbols or practice parts provided for the Psaltery Player as in Chapter One. CHAPTER TWO page 39 Lead Sheets for the 12 Psaltery Worship Songs can be found in this chapter. They contain the full Melody Line or Lead Sheet for singers and musicians. After reading Stanleys autobiography A Walk With God I came to realize that despite humble beginnings, he has led a truly remarkable life. Stanley is a deeply religious man and his book centers upon his growth in faith and service. He served in the USAF and founded mission churches while stationed in the Philippines. He has made numerous mission trips back to the Philippines and to Nigeria throughout his life. He started his own church. As his congregation struggled financially he went to college to become a public school teacher. He taught American history and agriculture, in part to support his congregation. He served his community in various capacities and extended his influence religiously by organizing a national convention of pastors of independent Churches of God, which continues to meet annually after 21 years.
