Letters from Elvis by Gary Lindberg Pdf

"Letters from Elvis" may be the most important and revealing book ever written about 'The King.' It is based on a cache of 265 handwritten and authenticated letters by Elvis Presley and a small circle of close friends to a secret spiritual guide. Never has such a candid and intimately revealing collection of letters surfaced about such a well-known celebrity. "Letters from Elvis" is a mind-blowing revelation of Elvis's inner life, an exposé of heinous Hollywood crimes, a touching tale of friendship, a haunting ghost story, and... a series of new Elvis mysteries. Taken together with the story of one man's struggle to publish this material, these elements go a long way to explain Elvis Presley's tragic decline.

Brando on Elvis by Gary Lindberg Pdf

A major publishing event in 2018 introduced the world to letters written by Elvis Presley to his secret confidante and spiritual advisor, Carmen Montez. "Letters from Elvis" by Gary Lindberg presented an amazing story of personal pain and abuse suffered by one of the world's most famous entertainers. Additional letters from Harry Belafonte, Tom Jones and Marlon Brando added meaningful details, but the verbatim text of these letters could not be reproduced for legal reasons. "Brando on Elvis: In His Own Words," a sequel to "Letters from Elvis," goes some way to solving those legal frustrations. Now, for the first time, the full text of Marlon Brando's authenticated letters to Carmen Montez about Elvis Presley are revealed. His writing presents the compelling story of a close friendship that survived many personal traumas before a final break-up. Elvis fans will at last see the startling revelations about Elvis's life presented in Brando's own words and appreciate the unknown bond that once existed between these two great entertainers.

All the King's Fans by Trude Forsher Pdf

In 1956, my mom, Trude Forsher, was a stay-at-home housewife raising two kids as well as putting up with a jealous husband who didn't encourage anything beyond cleaning the house and feeding the family. Mom had different ideas and at night, she took writing lessons at UCLA, eventually publishing a magazine article about her experiences as a contestant on Groucho Marx' You Bet Your Life. That same year, Elvis Presley arrived in Hollywood to begin filming his first film, Love Me Tender. Mom was able to arrange for an interview with Colonel Parker, Elvis' manager and the artist on the Milton Berle Show. Several weeks later, Colonel and Elvis offered her the position of personal secretary in the organization. She accepted and the press soon announced Trude Forsher had the job millions of young fans could only dream of. Over the next several years, she worked on such films as Love Me Tender, Loving You, Jailhouse Rock, King Creole and GI Blues. Her title was soon changed to promotion coordinator and she became best friends with the likes of not only Elvis and the Colonel, but Hal Wallis, Norman Taurog, Nick Adams, Cecil B. Demille and Paramount Studios founder Adolph Zukor. At the heart of her years with Elvis were the army of fans that she worked with on a daily basis. Mom passed away at the end of 2000. She saved an immense amount of material from her years with Elvis and the Colonel. In 2002, I began seriously reviewing all these materials. Packed away among the dozens of boxes of Elvis memorabilia was a red shoebox-size box jampacked with over a hundred authentic fan letters. Normally, the hundreds of thousands of letters that arrived at the studios were automatically sent to companies that would send fans photographs of their stars. On occasion, when the Presley organization would change studios, the system would break down and the studio mailroom would call Trude to pick up the fan letters that didn't' get forwarded. Over the years she worked for Elvis, these wayward letters made their way to her home office and filed away. I am sure her intent was to get the fans a photo but these fans never would get it. They now have found a new home in this book I have put many of the items that are shown in the book -as well as others items in the Trude Forsher Collection on a website WWW.ALLTHEKINGSFANS.COM. You can find these items in full color, as well as a podcast of mom describing her experiences with Elvis and the Colonel. Finally, the book includes not only the fan letters from around the world but also a first-hand account of what happened during the early years, authentically capturing her experience as part of a very unique time in Hollywood history, an insider's account of what Elvis' first two years in Hollywood was like. 'This book would not have been finished without the support of 25 generous Kickstarter pledgers. This group contributed their financial support in helping to pay for the final editing, graphics and printing costs. A special thanks to Marilyn Hughey, Debra Maslov, Sally Hudnall, Daren and Gloria Fields Bob Hayden, Roxanne Rebusit, Alanna Nash, Anthony Stuchbury, Jesica sundling, Ally Acker, Wayne Blankenship, Susan Lewis, Gailya Brown, Joan Dykman, Allegra McFarland, Katherine Lucas, Susie Palmer, Chelsea Brown, Benjamin Gonia, Carolyn Virden, Phillip Virden, Tara Kate, Lily Virden and Victoria Sampson. We also want to thank the Darya Virden, a student at the Seattle Film Institute who helped create both the Kickstarter campaign as well as editor of the book. Bad Nature, or With Elvis in Mexico (New Directions Pearls) by Javier Marías Pdf

A gem of a Marías story: Elvis and his entourage abandon their translator in a seedy cantina full of enraged criminals. “It all happened because of Elvis Presley.” Elvis, down south of the border to film a movie, has insisted his producers hire a proper Spaniard so that he can pronounce his few lines in Spanish with a Castillian accent. But Ruibérriz has taken on much more than he bargained for. One fatal night, horseplay in a local bar goes too far: a fatuous drunken American insults the local kingpin, and when the thug insists that Ruibérriz translate, Elvis himself adds an even more stinging comment—and who must translate that?

Being Elvis by Ray Connolly Pdf

The perfect companion to Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming biopic Elvis, a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks and Austin Butler. What was it like to be Elvis Presley? What did it feel like when impossible fame made him its prisoner? As the world's first rock star there was no one to tell him what to expect, no one with whom he could share the burden of being himself - of being Elvis. On the outside he was all charm, sex appeal, outrageously confident on stage and stunningly gifted in the recording studio. To his fans he seemed to have it all. He was Elvis. With his voice and style influencing succeeding generations of musicians, he should have been free to sing any song he liked, to star in any film he was offered, and to tour in any country he chose. But he wasn't free. The circumstances of his poor beginnings in the American South, which, as he blended gospel music with black rhythm and blues and white country songs, helped him create rock and roll, had left him with a lifelong vulnerability. Made rich and famous beyond his wildest imaginings when he mortgaged his talent to the machinations of his manager, 'Colonel' Tom Parker, there would be an inevitable price to pay. Though he daydreamed of becoming a serious film actor, instead he grew to despise his own movies and many of the songs he had to sing in them. He could have rebelled. But he didn't. Why? In the Seventies, as the hits rolled in again, and millions of fans saw him in a second career as he sang his way across America, he talked of wanting to tour the world. But he never did. What was stopping him? BEING ELVIS takes a clear-eyed look at the most-loved entertainer ever, and finds an unusual boy with a dazzling talent who grew up to change popular culture; a man who sold a billion records and had more hits than any other singer, but who became trapped by his own frailties in the loneliness of fame.

Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'n' Roll by Peter Guralnick Pdf

From the author of the critically acclaimed Elvis Presley biography: Last Train to Memphis brings us the life of Sam Phillips, the visionary genius who singlehandedly steered the revolutionary path of Sun Records. The music that he shaped in his tiny Memphis studio with artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, Ike Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash, introduced a sound that had never been heard before. He brought forth a singular mix of black and white voices passionately proclaiming the vitality of the American vernacular tradition while at the same time declaring, once and for all, a new, integrated musical day. With extensive interviews and firsthand personal observations extending over a 25-year period with Phillips, along with wide-ranging interviews with nearly all the legendary Sun Records artists, Guralnick gives us an ardent, unrestrained portrait of an American original as compelling in his own right as Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, or Thomas Edison.
