Life and Labour of the People in London, Vol. 3 by Charles Booth Pdf
Excerpt from Life and Labour of the People in London, Vol. 3: Blocks of Buildings, Schools, and Immigration The present chapter, written in 1890, is a sequel to the chapter on Influx of Population, written in 1888, which appears as Chapter II. Of this volume. In that chapter an attempt is made to determine the rate of influx from the provinces to East London, and its relation to the poverty and overcrowding of that district. The problem, however, of the circulation between London and the country cannot be satisfactorily handled with regard to one particular part of London alone; and, more over, the data for such an inquiry should not be obtained exclusively in London, but also in the rural districts which are the main sources of the influx.
