The Secret by Byron Preiss Pdf

The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Life Is a Treasure Box by T.L. Shoulders Pdf

Life Is a Treasure Box relates to all the emotions of the heart, what we value most and least in our lives. Through troubled times and the times where we feel as though we are jumping on cloud nine, we express ourselves in different ways. Our life is not full of just one emotion, yet many of them combined to make up a "Treasure Box." Combining imagination and factual events, I wanted to capture people's hearts, just as they have done to me. Life is very much worth living, especially when you can live your life with little regret. May you always hold the key to your treasure box, for it holds much more value than most of us realize. for our emotions and logic are combined into who we really are and what we desire to become.

The Treasure Box by Orson Scott Card Pdf

Widely acclaimed, hugely successful speculative-fiction author Orson Scott Card takes another step into the mainstream with an extremely chilling, vastly engaging novel that sets the notion of family values on its head and chronicles a man's transformation from hermit to hero. When Quentin Fears was 10, his sister left this world, the victim of a car accident. Her death made him withdraw from this world too -- into books, away from people. By the time he reaches adulthood, Quentin has become a certifiable recluse, moving restlessly from town to town, investing the millions he's made as a software creator and avoiding companionship. It's odd but maybe inevitable that on a rare outing to a party he should meet his dream woman, Madeleine. She's witty and beautiful and as naive to the world's ways as he is, and they marry in a matter of weeks. Their relationship seems idyllic but for one thing -- Madeleine's multigenerational, cantankerous, eccentric family who all live in a rambling riverside mansion in upstate New York. But poor family dynamics isn't all that's wrong with them. Beyond the squabbling, there's an ancient family secret to which Madeleine holds the key. Only Quentin can stop her from unleashing an ageless malevolence that will rule the world. But to do so, he must do what seems impossible -- step outside himself into the world he has avoided. He must learn friendship, trust, forgiveness and the courage to face down the ultimate evil. Joining Quentin in this epic confrontation is a splendidly quirky cast of heroes, villains and witches -- from a no-nonsense nurse with a dash of the romantic in her to a small-town sheriff whose affable exterior conceals a dangerous past to a 10-year-old girl named Roz whose malign powers are rivaled only by her smart mouth. Treasure Box introduces the most spectacularly dysfunctional family in recent fiction and a singular hero whose only weapons against them are his mind and his heart. How Quentin defuses this volatile mixture of comedy and horror makes for a viscerally unsettling, poignant and appealing tale that's sure to draw the legions of fans Card has won in other genres and new fans as well.

"The Buried Treasure" is mostly a celebration of the things that happen to us, the people that keep us going, and the natural world's power to amaze and humble us. It reminds us that when we're looking for treasure, the richest things are often the ones that feed our souls and connect us to each other and the land. A Look at the Chapters Chapter 1: The Outdated Chart One sunny afternoon, Tara was having fun in her attic when she found something very interesting and one-of-a-kind. An old, torn map was found in a forgotten corner, buried under a pile of books and toys. This map wasn't like most; it was well-made, had lots of small features, and had an X on it. Tara's eyes were bright with joy. Her grandfather had told her stories about lost wealth and brave pirates. Now she had what looked like a real treasure map. The map looked old because it was yellowing and had frayed ends that made it look like a picture book. Tara was curious about how the map got into her attic. Was it an old game piece that had been lost, or did an adventurous ancestor leave it there? An exciting thought filled Tara's mind: she might find something that no one else has. She had visions of jars full of sparkling gems, valuable coins, or maybe even magical riches. She felt daring when she thought about going on a treasure hunt. To go on this adventure with her, Tara knew she would need the help of her best friends, Leo and Sara. Because they loved adventures, Tara couldn't wait to tell them what she had found. She pictured the same happiness on their faces that she was feeling as she told them about the map. Every person would bring something different to the prize hunt, so they would work well together as a group. Sara was smart and quick-witted, Leo was brave and strong, and Tara was creative and smart. They were perfect for a trip together because they got along so well. While she looked at the map, Tara started making plans for their route. They looked into the woods behind her house for a long time because they thought that was where the X might be. This time, though, things would be different. This time, they were going to find a prize buried deep. Tara thought about what they would need: a journal to write about their trip, snacks to keep them going, a flashlight in case they had to go into dark places, and a compass to help them find their way. During their treasure hunt, she learned how important it is to be kind to animals and the earth. Tara was afraid that the many animals and plants that lived in the woods would not have their homes disrupted. That night, Tara had a hard time falling asleep. You could feel how excited she was about the upcoming journey. She thought about every possible prize and the problems they would have to solve. She couldn't wait to start because she knew there would be tasks and notes to follow. After seeing the old map, Tara became interested and amazed. She knew that she and her friends would always remember this journey. The next morning, Tara woke up early and was full of desire. There was a neat roll of the map in her bag. Tara couldn't wait to see where the old map would take them on their treasure hunt, which began today. It wasn't just a treasure hunt; it was about the thrill of the chase, the fun of exploring with other people, and the magic of finding new places. Tara was ready for a trip that would be full of new experiences and shocks. No one knows. The things they would do together and the lessons they would learn along the way might have been more important than any money or diamonds. Chapter 2: The trip started. As the sun broke through the clouds, giving the land a golden glow, Tara was on her way to see her friends Leo and Sara. She carefully put the old map into her backpack the night before, along with everything else she would need for the trip. It made her heart beat fast with excitement and expectation. The day in question wasn't like any other; it was the start of an amazing trip that only happens once in a lifetime. Tara was so excited to see her friends that she could hardly hold it in. She opened the old map with a flourish, which made Leo and Sara's eyes widen in shock. They sat down together and looked at the complicated patterns and symbols on the page, rubbing their heads together. She talked about how she found the map and why she thought it might have an enchanted prize hidden inside it waiting to be found. Leo smiled as Sara clapped her hands with happiness. Everyone was there. The choice was agreed upon by everyone. They were going to go on a treasure hunt together. There was an air of excitement in the air as they set out on their trip. Every step they took away from home and into the unknown seemed like a chance to learn something new. They were very excited as they talked about what the gift could be. Each idea was better than the last. It could have been a long-lost artifact with great power, a pirate's chest full of gold doubloons, or even a secret room full of old papers. They had a lot of ideas in their heads. They went to the edge of the woods because that's where the real fun would start. The forest stood tall above them. It was a huge, beautiful area that held the key to their goal. Tara, Leo, and Sara took a moment to enjoy everything. This was going to test how well they got along and worked together. Even though they knew the trip would be hard, the hope of finding the money together made it all worth it. They promised to look out for each other no matter what problems they faced. As they walked through the woods as the map told them to, their settings changed. The sounds of the city were replaced by the rustling of leaves and the singing of birds in the distance. As light came through the canopy, it cast a variety of shapes on the forest floor. They were amazed at how beautiful the area was as they moved through the thicket. The journey and the beautiful nature they saw were just as important to the trip as the end goal. They followed the path on the map through winding paths and over babbling brooks. Each sign brought them closer to their goal. They came across puzzles and hints along the way, which they worked together to solve. Every problem they solved made them stronger and their friendship stronger. The adventure was even more exciting than they thought it would be. There were lots of funny and happy times, and they felt like they had accomplished a lot.
