Light Through a Lens by Neil Jones,Paul Ridgway Pdf

In 1514, Henry VIII granted the Corporation of Trinity House a royal charter that made them responsible for the provision and maintenance of navigational aids in British territorial waters. 500 years later they are still responsible for the running of Britain's lighthouses. Though automated now, these lighthouses are maintained in all their unique and idiosyncratic splendour, proving popular architectural landmarks with locals and visitors alike. To celebrate Trinity House's quincentenary, this lavish photographic book features the best photography from the Corporation's own archive. Dramatic and evocative colour photos sit alongside text telling alternately fascinating and entertaining stories about these iconic structures dotted around the most vulnerable stretches of Britain's coastlines. Told from the Corporation's point of view, this will be a photographic account of iconic buildings to be treasured by anyone who finds the haunting beam of a lighthouse at sea an immensely comforting sight, as well as walkers and families for whom a lighthouse on the landscape is a completely irresistible draw.

Comparison of Behind-the-lens Meter Readings and Incident Light Meter Readings in Producing 35mm Color Slides for Technical Training Classes by Edgar A. Smith Pdf

The study reported here relates to the possibility that behind-the-lens meters in 35mm cameras might facilitate the taking of colored slides by simplifying the technique for determining exposure. A series of test slides, representing various types of slides used in technical training classes, briefings, and presentations was made and evaluated. These pictures included indoor shots of charts, graphs, newspaper clippings, colored posters, and live subjects. The data indicate that exposure estimates obtained from behind-the-lens meters vary significantly from those obtained from incident light meters. In approximately one-half of the 48 cases compared, the difference was at least one f-stop. The difference was not systematic but varied in both degree and direction. When viewing the slides in pairs, both a group of 37 university students and a group of 17 adult members of a photography club exhibited a strong tendency to find the slide based on the incident light meter to be more acceptable than the slide based on the behind-the-lens meter. Modern Lens Antennas for Communications Engineering by John Thornton,Kao-Cheng Huang Pdf

The aim of this book is to present the modern design principles and analysis of lens antennas. It gives graduates and RF/Microwave professionals the design insights in order to make full use of lens antennas. Why do we want to write a book in lens antennas? Because this topic has not been thoroughly publicized, its importance is underestimated. As antennas play a key role in communication systems, recent development in wireless communications would indeed benefit from the characteristics of lens antennas: low profile, and low cost etc. The major advantages of lens antennas are narrow beamwidth, high gain, low sidelobes and low noise temperature. Their structures can be more compact and weigh less than horn antennas and parabolic antennas. Lens antennas with their quasi-optical characteristics, also have low loss, particularly at near millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths where they have particular advantages. This book systematically conducts advanced and up-to-date treatment of lens antennas.
