Time-Frequency Analysis of Operators by Elena Cordero,Luigi Rodino Pdf

This authoritative text studies pseudodifferential and Fourier integral operators in the framework of time-frequency analysis, providing an elementary approach, along with applications to almost diagonalization of such operators and to the sparsity of their Gabor representations. Moreover, Gabor frames and modulation spaces are employed to study dispersive equations such as the Schrödinger, wave, and heat equations and related Strichartz problems. The first part of the book is addressed to non-experts, presenting the basics of time-frequency analysis: short time Fourier transform, Wigner distribution and other representations, function spaces and frames theory, and it can be read independently as a short text-book on this topic from graduate and under-graduate students, or scholars in other disciplines.

Fractional Sobolev Spaces and Inequalities by D. E. Edmunds,W. D. Evans Pdf

The fractional Sobolev spaces studied in the book were introduced in the 1950s by Aronszajn, Gagliardo and Slobodeckij in an attempt to fill the gaps between the classical Sobolev spaces. They provide a natural home for solutions of a vast, and rapidly growing, number of questions involving differential equations and non-local effects, ranging from financial modelling to ultra-relativistic quantum mechanics, emphasising the need to be familiar with their fundamental properties and associated techniques. Following an account of the most basic properties of the fractional spaces, two celebrated inequalities, those of Hardy and Rellich, are discussed, first in classical format (for which a survey of the very extensive known results is given), and then in fractional versions. This book will be an Ideal resource for researchers and graduate students working on differential operators and boundary value problems.

Fractional Differential Equations by Juan J. Nieto,Rosana Rodríguez-López Pdf

Fractional calculus provides the possibility of introducing integrals and derivatives of an arbitrary order in the mathematical modelling of physical processes, and it has become a relevant subject with applications to various fields, such as anomalous diffusion, propagation in different media, and propogation in relation to materials with different properties. However, many aspects from theoretical and practical points of view have still to be developed in relation to models based on fractional operators. This Special Issue is related to new developments on different aspects of fractional differential equations, both from a theoretical point of view and in terms of applications in different fields such as physics, chemistry, or control theory, for instance. The topics of the Issue include fractional calculus, the mathematical analysis of the properties of the solutions to fractional equations, the extension of classical approaches, or applications of fractional equations to several fields.

Shielding of Partially Reflecting Stagnation Surfaces Against Radiation by Transpiration of an Absorbing Gas by John Thomas Howe Pdf

The laminar compressible boundary layer in the two dimensional and axisymmetric stagnation regions has been analyzed to show the effects of the injection of a radiation absorbing gas on the incident radiation field, on enthalpy profiles, and on heat transfer to the vehicle surface. Heat-transfer results are presented and are compared with those for the unshielded case. The required absorption properties of the foreign gas are determined and compared with properties of known gases.
