This United States Army policy, Army Regulation AR 700-28 Logistics: Ammunition Management October 2020, provides policy for Army peacetime and wartime allocation of class V conventional ammunition and missiles that require intensive management. It provides policy for execution of Army responsibilities for the distribution of new production and stockpiles to Army and non-Army customers as prescribed in DoDD 5160.65, which also addresses the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition and implements appropriate portions of DoDD 5160.65. The Secretary of the Army is the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition. That official has delegated authority to Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology). The Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology) has, in turn, delegated execution of the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition operations to the Joint Program Executive Office Armaments and Ammunition. This regulation also implements in the Army allocation process the joint conventional ammunition policies and those of the Joint Materiel Priorities and Allocation Board. This regulation applies to the Regular Army, the Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and the U.S. Army Reserve. It also applies to Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition elements within the Army and those activities supporting the Army's mission to all Department of Defense military Services.

Spearhead of Logistics by Benjamin King,Richard C. Biggs Pdf

Spearhead of Logistics is a narrative branch history of the U.S. Army's Transportation Corps, first published in 1994 for transportation personnel and reprinted in 2001 for the larger Army community. The Quartermaster Department coordinated transportation support for the Army until World War I revealed the need for a dedicated corps of specialists. The newly established Transportation Corps, however, lasted for only a few years. Its significant utility for coordinating military transportation became again transparent during World War II, and it was resurrected in mid-1942 to meet the unparalleled logistical demands of fighting in distant theaters. Finally becoming a permanent branch in 1950, the Transportation Corps continued to demonstrate its capability of rapidly supporting U.S. Army operations in global theaters over the next fifty years. With useful lessons of high-quality support that validate the necessity of adequate transportation in a viable national defense posture, it is an important resource for those now involved in military transportation and movement for ongoing expeditionary operations. This text should be useful to both officers and noncommissioned officers who can take examples from the past and apply the successful principles to future operations, thus ensuring a continuing legacy of Transportation excellence within Army operations. Additionally, military science students and military historians may be interested in this volume.

Logistics in World War II by Center of Military History United States Army,Center of Military History United States Pdf

Logistics in World War II: Final Report of the Army Service Forces is the after-action report of the vast logistics undertaking by the ASF headquarters both in the zone of interior and in distant theaters during World War II, considered to be a logistician's war. Long out of print, this facsimile edition covers what was done, how it was done, the problems and their solutions, and the successes and failures, ending with key lessons for future application. The report provides insights into methods and practices to achieve logistics readiness, and serves as an invaluable reference source for those researching the logistical dimension stretching from the factory floor to the foxhole. ARMY SERVICE FORCES, known as the Services of Supply until 12 March 1943, was responsible for administrative, supply (including procurement), and service activities for the War Department as a whole. With its creation, Army logistics was put on what promised to be a businesslike footing.

Munitions Distribution in the Theater of Operations (FM 4-30. 1) by Department of the Army Pdf

This manual, “Munitions Distribution in the Theater of Operations,” (FM 4-30.1), prescribes doctrine for munitions support. It explains in general terms how munitions units operate and interact to provide munitions to the user. It is the basis for munitions doctrine, materiel, training, and organizational development. This manual addresses munitions unit missions, operations, and interactions between the various levels of munitions support. This manual explains to combat arms (CA), combat support (CS), and combat service support (CSS) commanders and their staffs how and where they receive munitions support. It establishes guidelines and procedures for munitions unit commanders and their staffs while operating the munitions support structure. This manual also discusses the modular ammunition platoon concept. There are two types of modular platoons: heavy lift and medium lift. The heavy lift platoon (HLP) is best suited for port, theater storage area (TSA), and corps storage area (CSA) operations. The medium lift platoons (MLPs) operate in TSAs and CSAs when needed, and are designed to operate ammunition supply points (ASPs). These platoons are capable of deploying and operating independently from their company headquarters, but require external support for sustainment. They allow the Army to effectively take advantage of technology such as the palletized loading system (PLS), configured loads (CLs), and containerized roll-on/-off platforms (CROPs). These palletized loads can be shipped to TSAs, CSAs, and ASPs. The type and number of platoons deployed is based on mission, enemy, terrain and weather, troops and support available, time available, civil considerations (METT-TC) and the commander's intent. Modular units provide a flexible design tailorable to the theater commander's intent. They allow the theater commander to expand and contract the ammunition supply capability when and where needed to meet operational requirements.
