Lone Atrial Fibrillation Towards a Cure by Hans R. Larsen Pdf

Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been called the arrhythmia of the millennium. Millions of people suffer from lone atrial fibrillation (AF without underlying heart disease), and many don't even know they have it. There is no universally effective pharmacological treatment for lone atrial fibrillation (LAF) and relevant surgical procedures are expensive and not always successful. I experienced my first LAF episode in 1989 and fairly early on in my afib "career" I realized that if anyone was going to help me it would have to be myself. So I embarked on an intensive study to find out everything I could about LAF and to come up with effective ways of dealing with it. I perused several weighty tomes on cardiac arrhythmias, located and read over 600 peer-reviewed medical articles dealing with the subject and gained much valuable insight from the more than 15,000 postings on my web site bulletin board and the responses from hundreds of afibbers who participated in four major LAF surveys. The results of my research are presented in Lone Atrial Fibrillation: Towards a Cure. The book is a useful manual for novice and veteran afibber alike; it debunks the mystery, myths and confusion surrounding LAF by providing the facts about the disorder liberally interspersed with personal "journeys" of fellow afibbers. Lone Atrial Fibrillation: Towards a Cure clearly describes the mechanism and known and potential causes of LAF; it discusses and assesses the various medical treatment options, both drug-based and surgical, and also covers alternative ways of dealing with LAF. It delves into the vital importance of diet in controlling episode severity and provides a detailed 10-step plan for managing LAF. It is my sincere hope that the book will help instill a feeling of hope and solidarity in the reader. You are no longer alone in the battle with "the beast".

The LAF Surveys: What We Learned about the Causes and Treatment of Lone Atrial Fibrillation by Hans R. Larsen Mscche Pdf

Who gets lone atrial fibrillation? What causes it? How do you manage it? The LAF surveys, undertaken over a 12-year period, answer these questions. The surveys reveal that lone atrial fibrillation [LAF] is by no means an "old age" disease (average age at diagnosis is 48 years) and that 80% of its victims are male. They also establish which drugs are optimal and which drugs should be shunned by LAF patients. The importance of supplements, particularly magnesium, is thoroughly investigated and protocols used by over 100 LAF patients who have managed to eliminate their atrial fibrillation episodes without ablation or surgery are described. The latest survey presents data for over 1000 catheter ablations and maze procedures and draws clear conclusions regarding the factors affecting success and failure of these procedures.

Decoding Cardiac Electrophysiology by Afzal Sohaib Pdf

This book provides a concise overview of cardiac electrophysiology for cardiologists who are not electrophysiologists and for allied cardiovascular professionals, cardiology registrars and fellows who are new to the field. It familiarises them with the main procedures performed in the electrophysiology laboratory. Emphasis is placed on helping the reader develop a core understanding of how data is collected and interpreted in the electrophysiology laboratory, and how this is used to guide ablation for the commonest arrhythmias including AV nodal re-entry tachycardia, accessory pathways, atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. Decoding Cardiac Electrophysiology: Understanding the Techniques and Defining the Jargon will translate some of the technical terminology and data frequently used by electrophysiologists into terms and concepts familiar to the wider cardiovascular community. This includes the interpretation of electrograms and 3D electro-anatomical maps of common arrhythmias. Accordingly, it offers a valuable resource for all non-electrophysiologists seeking a guide to the topic and for electrophysiology trainees establishing their core knowledge and skills in the field. The aim is that this should be the first book anyone new to the field should choose to read.

Thoracic Vein Arrhythmias by Shih-Ann Chen,Michel Haïssaguerre,Douglas Zipes Pdf

In 1998 Professor Haïssaguerre and his colleagues made the initial observation in patients that triggering foci in or around the pulmonary veins initiate some types of atrial fibrillation. Since then it has become clear that atrial fibrillation and other atrial tachyarrhythmias can be initiated (and possibly maintained) by triggering foci in any of the thoracic veins. This concept is now one of the most current topics in electrophysiology, and while it is a topic of frequent discussion in the major cardiology and electrophysiology journals, Thoracic Vein Arrhythmias: Mechanisms and Treatment is the first state-of-the art multi-authored textbook that integrates the advances made in this rapidly developing new area of cardiac arrhythmias for the global community. Edited by Drs. Shih-Ann Chen, Michel Haïssaguerre, and Douglas P. Zipes, who are at the forefront of advances in this field of cardiology, and with contributions from authors representing an international array of authorities in their individual fields, this text will be an invaluable reference to students, basic scientists, and clinicians with an interest in any aspect of cardiac arrhythmia. First textbook to provide comprehensive, critical and insightful review by leading experts in the exciting field of thoracic vein arrhythmias. Contains review of the current status of thoracic vein arrhythmias, and speculation on how the new findings will impact on treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. The chapters outline how progress is being made on several fronts ranging from basic mechanisms to invasive treatment for thoracic vein arrhythmias.
