Metro Ethernet Services for LTE Backhaul by Roman Krzanowski Pdf

The backhaul portion of the network is comprised of intermediate links between the core network and the small sub-networks at the "edge" of the entire hierarchical network. This is a critical area because it is the side of the network that communicates with the global Internet. This practical resource serves as a comprehensive guide to designing mobile Ethernet backhauling (MEBH) services in metro areas using carrier Ethernet (CE) architecture. For the first time in any book, you find detailed advice on how to put together the many elements of the CE toolbox to create a coherent working design for a specific MEBH service. Like solving a difficult jigsaw puzzle, you learn how all the CE components and standards interact and gain knowledge of their interdependencies. You also gain insight into the tradeoffs and consequences associated with selection of specific components for a particular project.

Comprehensive coverage of IP/MPLS/Ethernet backhaul technologies and solutions for 3GPP mobile network systems such as LTE, HSPA and GPRS Focusing on backhaul from a radio network viewpoint, Mobile Backhaul combines perspectives on mobile networks and transport network technologies, focusing on mobile backhaul specific functionalities, which are essential in building modern cost efficient packet networks for mobile systems, IP, MPLS and Carrier Ethernet. The key functions required for this process, Synchronization, Resiliency, Quality of Service and Security, are also explained. The reader benefits from a view of networking technology from a radio network viewpoint, which is specific to this application, as well from a data centre and more IT-oriented perspective. The book bridges the gap between radio and backhaul viewpoints to provide a holistic understanding. Organized into two parts, the book gives an advanced introduction to the principles of the topic before moving on to more specialized areas. Part 1 gives a network level overview, with the purpose of presenting the mobile network application, its protocols, interfaces and characteristics for the backhaul. This section also presents the key packet networking technologies that are most relevant for the radio network. Part 2 offers selected case studies in Synchronization, Resiliency, QoS and Security and gives example solutions for mobile operator owned and leased mobile backhaul cases building on the network view given in Part 1. Both radio network experts and IP networking experts will benefit from the treatment of essential material at the borderline between the radio and backhaul technologies. Key features: Unique view and coverage of both the radio network and the packet mobile backhaul Includes a view into the economic motivation for a packet based mobile backhaul and discusses scenarios of a migration to the new technology Covers 2G, 3G, HSPA, HSPA+ and LTE in radio technologies as well as MWR, Sonet/SDH, Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet, MPLS and IP in networking technologies

LTE Services by Jean-Gabriel Rémy,Charlotte Letamendia Pdf

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is commonly marketed as 4G. LTE and LTE Advanced have been recognized by ITU-R and ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union – Telecommunications) as the principal solution for the future mobile communication networks standards. They are thus the framework of what the marketing calls 4G and possibly also 5G. This book describes various aspects of LTE as well as the change of paradigm, which it is bringing to mobile communications, focusing on LTE standards and architecture, OFDMA, the Full IP Core Network and LTE security.

Commercial 4G LTE Networks for Supporting Strategic IoT Applications by Dr. Ahmed Y Hassebo Pdf

Emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications and services including e-healthcare, smart grid, smart water, smart cities, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are set to transform and disrupt the way we live and work. According to IDC, with IoT spending forecast to surpass $1.2 trillion in 2022, a staggering number of “things” will require ubiquitous connectivity. There is an emerging consensus that cellular-based Fourth-Generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) and emerging 5G are the key technologies candidates that can provide the required global IoT connectivity to such a staggering number of “things”. The IoT will enable billions of sensors, actuators, and smart devices to be interconnected and managed remotely via the Internet. By 2020, it is expected that the IoT will encompass more than 24 billion smart devices. Some of these smart devices are compact multifunction sensors, where multiple sensors are integrated and packed into a smart compact module to monitor and detect multiple variables simultaneously. Cellular-based Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications is one of the key IoT enabling technologies with huge market potential for cellular service providers deploying LTE networks. Massive IoT (MIoT) refers to the tens of billions of M2M devices, objects, and machines that require ubiquitous connectivity. According to the global standards body 3GPP, a massive scale means deploying at least 1 million devices per squared kilometer. IoT applications span a wide range of use cases ranging from mission-critical applications with strict latency and reliability requirements to those that require support of massive number of connected M2M devices with relaxed latency and reliability requirements. Mission-critical IoT applications could be enabled by 4G LTE or emerging 5G capabilities.
