The Mousecat and the Moonicorns on Halloween Night by Heather MacLean Pdf

It is October 31st. The orange harvest moon has no moonbeams. In the stables, horses feel uneasy when scary creatures appear in the night sky. Four kittens are born. One is abandoned by her mother because she is not suitably dressed in black for a Halloween ride on a broomstick. A loving horse rescues the tiny creature, no bigger than a mouse, and she is named the Mousecat. The Mousecat has most unusual eyes, which enable the strangest, scariest, and most wonderful things to happen when she goes on her own Halloween sky ride with the Moonicorns and moonicorn fairies. How could it be possible for such a tiny creature to experience so much in one dark, dark night? Could this amazing adventure be a dream? Maybe, but the next night, the moon notices the bow of a violin near a pumpkin patch. An old skeleton, in his hurry to reach his coffin before sunrise, had dropped the bow. People and animals also noticed it, and left it there. A year later, after the next Halloween night, it was gone. A sequel to The Moonicorn Fairies, this book once again combines fact and fantasy using Classical music, storytelling, and art.

Asymmetries in Dialogue by Ivana Marková,Klaus Foppa Pdf

Although dialogues, face-to-face immediate interactions between two or more people, are always reciprocal, they are characterized by various kinds of asymmetrical dominance relationshipsorelationships which are embedded in a social context. At many local levels, asymmetries occur in turn-taking, initiatives and responses. At more global levels, patterns of dominance may result from culturally-established rules and inequalities of knowledge. The contributors to this book, all distinguished scholars of international repute, build upon the theoretical assumptions about dialogue established in their previous publication, The Dynamics of Dialogue. Using an interdisciplinary approach, they focus on both conceptual issues of dominance and on empirical research on inequalities in roles, status and knowledge. This book is certain to be of interest to all students and teachers of psychology. Contents: Preface; Asymmetries in Dialogue: Some Conceptual Preliminary, P. Linell and T. Luckmann; Asymmetries of Knowledge in Conversational Interactions, P. Drew; Facework and Control in Multi-Party Talk: A Paediatric Case Study, K. Gongs & Bamboo by José Maceda Pdf

This panorama is a pictorial view of music instruments starting with older bamboo and other instruments of undetermined age, going on two types of gongs-flat in Northern Luzon and bossed in the South. These two areas may be viewed as pocket cultures comparable to other pocket cultures in Borneo, Sumatra, other islands in Southeast Asia and the mountain regions south of and including Yunnan province of China, thus placing the music of Luzon and Mindanao in a larger geographical context. For example, mouth organs in Borneo and continental Southeast Asia are absent in the Philippines, where, however, separate pipes of panpipes are on occasion still being played by groups of boys among the Kalingga of Luzon. The musical elements of drone and melody identified in two lutes in Borneo or ensembles in Yunnan find examples in two players of the same tube zither in Mindanao and flat gongs in Luzon. The nearly 500 photographs in the book are almost all taken in the field, showing details of making and playing bamboo buzzers, jaw harps, zithers, percussion tubes, flutes and other instruments. Manners of tapping and sliding with the hands on flat gongs differ from beating them with sticks. Examples of big bossed gongs with wide rims (agung) struck with a mallet on the boss and a stick on the rim show affinities with a manner of playing bronze drums in Yunnan. In North Luzon, men and women dancing in circles with outstretched hands distinguish them from solo dancers with minimum body movements in the South.

Serge Gainsbourg: a Fistful of Gitanes by Sylvie Simmons Pdf

In this, the first English biography to capture Gainsbourg in all his contradiction and gleeful outrageousness, Simmons tells the fascinating story of the Gallic star. Drawing on hours of new interviews with his intimates-among them Jane Birkin, Sly & Robbie, Marianne Faithfull, and celebrated producer Philippe Lerichomme-Simmons describes in crackling prose the scope of Gainsbourg's achievement while doing full justice to his complicated emotional life. Simmons's work will stand as the definitive take on a dizzying genius.
