Track Design Handbook for Light Rail Transit by Anonim Pdf
TCRP report 155 provides guidelines and descriptions for the design of various common types of light rail transit (LRT) track. The track structure types include ballasted track, direct fixation ("ballastless") track, and embedded track. The report considers the characteristics and interfaces of vehicle wheels and rail, tracks and wheel gauges, rail sections, alignments, speeds, and track moduli. The report includes chapters on vehicles, alignment, track structures, track components, special track work, aerial structures/bridges, corrosion control, noise and vibration, signals, traction power, and the integration of LRT track into urban streets.

Railway Maintenance Equipment by Brian Solomon Pdf
Railroad tracks take quite a beating, with countless tons of cold steel and freight rumbling over them day and night, wearing down rails and vibrating ties loose from their ballasts. This book reveals the special machinery railroads use to maintain and mend tracks and other property, as well as how the machines were developed and how they work. Each chapter tackles a different piece of maintenance equipment like tie pullers, spike drivers and rail grinders. Photos illustrate the machines in action, while detail shots depict the "business end" of each. This one-of-a-kind title is perfect for railfans and modelers.

Maintenance of Way and Structures (Classic Reprint) by William C. Willard Pdf
Excerpt from Maintenance of Way and Structures A pronounced development has taken place the past decade in the materials and appliances in the construction and maintenance of railway-track. Changes in the composition and section of rails and the steady increase in the use of treated ties, following the scientific development of the timber-preserving industry, are notable examples. The use by American railways of tie-plates, rail-anchors, screw-spikes, steel ties, section motor-cars, etc., is so recent that a few of these are scarcely beyond the experimental stage. The Federal valuation of railways has been accompanied by new systems of accounting in the engineering as well as other departments and has placed greater responsibility upon the railway engineer. An accompanying development, though less pronounced, has taken place in the maintenance-of-way organization and in the methods of doing the work. This book was undertaken with the idea of setting forth the best accepted practice of the day in that important branch of railway engineering, Maintenance of Way and Structures. The author has attempted to arrange the matter and treat it in such a way that it will be of interest both to the maintenance-of-way engineer and to the university student pursuing a course in engineering. Fundamental principles and theory are stated and are emphasized in each instance by representative examples of the practice of individual railways. An effort has been made to provide a very complete list of illustrations which considerably outnumber those published elsewhere. The index is arranged so that the relative importance of the references imder each topic is at once apparent. The subject of signaling has been entirely omitted. Its wonderful recent development and wide adoption place it beyond the scope of this book. A separate volume should be devoted to its treatment. The author wishes to thank the many railway officials, engineers, manufacturers, and others who have assisted him by supplying data or by criticism of the manuscript. He has endeavored to give credit to the works of others, to periodicals, and to societies and associations where credit is due. Frequent reference is made to the work of the American Hail way Engineering Association which in a large measure is responsible for the present standardization of railway engineering practice. Track by W. B. Parsons, Jr. Pdf
From the Introduction. In the rapid and extraordinary growth of railroad construction, within the last sixty years, the improvements made in the road-bed have been many and very marked in degree, and the proper maintenance of this important department has always been an interesting study. Within the last fifteen years, however, the introduction of steel rails has practically worked a complete revolution in the construction and care of railways, and the few really good works which treated of iron rails and their details are now out of date in many features and valueless as guides to the trackmen. In the following pages the author has endeavored to put into a compact, simple form the latest practice in the maintenance of track as deduced from the accepted methods of the prominent trunk lines of railway in the United States. The purpose of this volume is to describe the materials used in the construction and maintenance of the road-bed; the tools handled by the trackmen; the appliances and structures connected with the track and in the charge of the track department, and to fully discuss the most profitable manner of doing work. It is intended to be essentially a "practical" treatise; but one fully recognizing the value of scientific work and simply reducing these scientific methods to their most thoroughly practical form. With this end in view, mathematics have been avoided as much as possible, and likewise abstruse technical problems which have been fully discussed by other authors. One of the valuable features of this work will be its details of illustration and description. The information given is intended to be precise, accurate and to the point; and the illustrations are all made from actual working drawings, and are given with such dimensions as are considered requisite....
