Make The Hood Great Again by Rafa Wright Pdf

This concise, practical treatise explores the process to community building, written for the culture by a leader in the culture. "Make The Hood Great Again" is Rafa Wright's high level manifesto on how to make America's inner cities better based on his journey to open a grocery store in Detroit. Wright is challenging leaders across the nation to make their hood great."Make The Hood Great Again" states that the pillars to a successful community are strong foundations in politics, economics, and education which will increase the quality of life of its citizens. Wright acknowledges the uphill battle leaders and citizens will have in America's inner cities due to longstanding systematic discrimination. Predictive Health by Kenneth L. Brigham,Michael M. E. Johns,L Brigham Pdf

Our health care system is crippled by desperate efforts to prevent the inevitable. A third of the national Medicare budget--nearly $175 billion--is spent on the final year of life, and a third of that amount on the final month, often on expensive (and futile) treatments. Such efforts betray a fundamental flaw in how we think about healthcare: we squander resources on hopeless situations, instead of using them to actually improve health. In Predictive Health, distinguished doctors Kenneth Brigham and Michael M.E. Johns propose a solution: invest earlier--and use science and technology to make healthcare more available and affordable. Every child would begin life with a post-natal genetic screen, when potential risk--say for type II diabetes or heart disease--would be found. More data on biology, behavior, and environment would be captured throughout her life. Using this information, health-care workers and the people they care for could forge personal strategies for healthier living long before a small glitch blows up into major disease. This real health care wouldn't just replace much of modern disease care--it would make it obsolete. The result, according to Brigham and Johns, will be a life defined by a long stay at top physical and mental form, rather than an early peak and long decline. Accomplishing this goal will require new tools, new clinics, fewer doctors and more mentors, smarter companies, and engaged patients. In short, it will require a revolution. Thanks to a decade-long collaboration between Brigham, Johns and others, it is already underway. An optimistic plan for reducing or eliminating many chronic diseases as well as reforming our faltering medical system, Predictive Health is a deeply knowledgeable, deeply humane proposal for how we can reallocate expenses and resources to prolong the best years of life, rather than extending the worst.

Dolores at Fort Hood, Tijuana and Detroit by John Jellinek Pdf

An unsung American heroine, Dolores a nurse in surgery is betrayed by her own kind: doctors! Th e first one, a gynecologist, keeps her waiting for 3 months before he does a D & C, and by way of a biopsy, finds out she has cervical cancer. At first he is going to do a radical hysterectomy, changes his mind, and dumps her on a radiologist with a non-existent Stage IC diagnosis report. The radiologist, not knowing his Merck Manual too well, convinces her that radiology is as effective as a hysterectomy operation for any Stage I cervical cancer. A year later, the cancer had metastasized. She receives chemotherapy and becomes very religious. The tumors disappear and she believes she is healed. However, three months later her health deteriorates, again. The husband and Dolores meet a lady cured of lung cancer by a strict metabolic diet and Laetrile pills. This happens while he is on a 3 month tour of duty assignment at Fort Hood, Texas as a civilian engineer for the US Army Tank-Automotive Command. On her advice and a talk with the doctor in Mexico they take a chance to cure Dolores with a trip to Clinica Cydel in Tijuana. After a few days of Laetrile treatment, but inability to hold down food, Dolores collapses and she is hospitalized at Dr. Contreras Hospital del Mar. She is put on a plane from San Diego to Detroit 3 weeks later, but rapidly breaks down in health. Her last day out, she attends a faithful Christian service conducted by evangelist Nora Lam. Dolores expires 4 months later.
