Management in Occupational Therapy by Z. B. Maslin Pdf

My aim in writing this book was to provide a guide to management for student occupational therapists and practitioners in the field. It is not intended to provide an answer to every conceivable management situation. The organization and delivery of health and social services is being subjected to relentless scrutiny and change. Hardly has one proposal been implemented before another one is introduced. In view of this, the thrust of this book is to highlight key points to be addressed when looking at the delivery of occupational therapy services. For this reason, the book starts from the viewpoint of one who is in the early stages of an occupational therapy career through to the position of having to manage the staff in an occupational therapy departmentl service. Following this plan, the book has been organized into two parts. Part One covers issues that an occupational therapist has to confront directly in any job situation. In this situation, she will need to know wh at is expected of her. Apart from knowing about the various duties, it is necessary to understand the context in which these duties are to be conducted. Hence, there are chapters that discuss professional responsibilities, self-management, stan dards of practice, and the structure of the two biggest employers of occupational therapists - the NHS and local authority social services departments.

The Occupational Therapy Managers' Survival Handbook by Florence S Cromwell,Chestina Brollier Pdf

This practical volume, in a casebook approach, was developed in response to the complex issues that today’s manager faces. As therapists assume managerial responsibilities, there is need to share experiences and lessons learned. In this volume, a common format is used to present each case, including chronology of events, alternatives considered, risks involved, and outcomes. Several chapters include valuable resource materials as well. Key concerns are addressed, such as justifying more therapist staff, evaluating staff performance, collecting and analyzing cost data to establish fees, weighing ethical and liability concerns, and teaching students about their future responsibilities. The Occupational Therapy Manager’s Survival Handbook provides useful material for any therapist who wishes to examine and strengthen his or her role as a manager.

This manual offers care providers a unique combination of evidence-based methods for adult learning and coping strategy development when training clients individually or in groups. Coping strategies help clients to engage and thrive in meaningful self-care, as well as productive and leisure occupations. The coping strategies are divided into four categories: health and wellness routines, changing the body’s response to stress, changing the situation, and changing attitudes. Each category contains four modules with client handouts for coping strategy training, including sleep hygiene, suicide safety planning, setting healthy boundaries, and cultivating gratitude. Every module contains a facilitator lesson plan, specific learning outcomes, and examples of expected client responses to ensure the learning is taking place. Occupational therapists and other care providers, both novice and experienced, will find this manual useful to improve efficiencies in practice and provision of meaningful teachings.

Rheumatology Practice in Occupational Therapy by Lynne Goodacre,Margaret McArthur Pdf

Rheumatology Practice in Occupational Therapy: Promoting Lifestyle Management is a valuable new handbook focusing on rheumatology, a core area of occupational therapy practice. It provides practical guidance to help occupational therapists treat and manage rheumatic conditions in both clinical and community settings and emphasises a contemporary ‘client-centred’ approach as a fundamental requirement of effective and rewarding occupational therapy practice. Drawing upon personal, clinical and theoretical perspectives, Rheumatology Practice in Occupational Therapy equips the reader with an understanding of the relevant practical skills and of the clinical reasoning required to modify and apply these skills to the needs of individual people. Written by experts from occupational therapy, sociology and psychology, this book addresses the need to adapt occupational therapy interventions to each client’s own experience of living with a rheumatic condition and develops the reader’s understanding of key theoretical and clinical approaches to person-centred management. Occupational Therapy and Stroke by Judi Edmans Pdf

Occupational Therapy and Stroke guides newly qualified occupational therapists (and those new to the field of stroke management) through the complexities of treating people following stroke. It encourages and assists therapists to use their skills in problem solving, building on techniques taught and observed as an undergraduate. Written and edited by practising occupational therapists, the book acknowledges the variety of techniques that may be used in stroke management and the scope of the occupational therapist's role. Chapters span such key topics as early intervention and the theoretical underpinnings of stroke care, as well as the management of motor, sensory, cognitive and perceptual deficits. They are written in a user-friendly style and presented in a form that enables the therapist to review the subject prior to assessment and treatment planning. Complex problems are grouped together for greater clarity. This second edition has been fully revised and updated in line with the WHO ICF model, National Clinical Guidelines and Occupational Therapy standards. It is produced on behalf of the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section - Neurological Practice.
