Managing Dynamic Capabilities in Alliance Portfolios by Felix Arndt Pdf

Managing Dynamic Capabilities in Alliance Portfolios by Felix Arndt Pdf

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The field of strategic management deals with understanding the ways how firms achieve competitive advantage and how they create superior value. Knowledge creation is carried out by explaining phenomena that can be observed in business life and by applying and developing theories and their implications. Often, new perspectives emerge through criticism of existing models. A similar process was necessary to discover the potential of the resource-based view, which had taken almost 30 years from its first systematisation to an increasing amount of literature dealing on the topic. The resource-based view nowadays reflects one of the most important perspectives on strategic management. Basically, the resource-based view is a platform for many research streams, underlying the same basic assumptions, that presently are creating new knowledge, a better understanding and will continue to do so in the future. In fact, the resource-based view is a result from the critics of the industry structure view and has gained its popularity from the potential which it has proven by sourcing several research ideas. Initially, the resource-based view was seen as the opposite of the industry structure view, which is externally oriented whereas the resource-based view focuses on firm s internal processes to achieve competitive advantage. From today s point of view, an integrated ansatz is traced. Every different perspective relies on a certain number of similar assumptions with another perspective. Often, it seems possible to explain business phenomena by integrating theories into a consistent view. This approach has had potential for highly-influential strategic management theories and it has still for future research. Especially, the transaction cost theory provides valuable extensions and explanations for observations within the resource-based view. The same statement is valid for the integration of the resource-based view and the industry structure view. In fact, Prof. Barney who established the most cited basis for the resource-based view in 1991 considered varying embodiments for the resource-based view since the perspective is highly related to micro-economics, evolutionary economics and the industry structure view. With respect to the foundation of the resource-based theory, many other perspectives emerged, such as the competence-based view, the routine-based view, the capability-based view, the dynamic capability perspective, the [...]

Strategic Alliance Management by Brian Tjemkes,Pepijn Vos,Koen Burgers Pdf

Strategic Alliance Management presents an academically grounded alliance development framework, detailing eight stages of alliance development with consideration for specific management challenges. For each stage, readers are presented with theoretical insights, evidence-based managerial guidelines and a business case illustration. Other chapters consider alliance attributes, alliance competences, and alliance challenges, and cover topics such as innovation, co-branding, co-opetition, business ecosystems, alliance professionals, alliance capabilities, societal alliances and a tension-based alliance mindset. This fully revised 3rd edition leverages the book’s strengths in marrying theory with practical insight. All the chapters have been updated to reflect the current academic literature, whilst new international case studies are incorporated throughout. Two new chapters feature in this edition, considering the importance of the mindset required to successfully navigate alliance arrangements, and emerging alliance practices, exploring how new technologies, sustainability and the external environment have disrupted alliance management. In-chapter text boxes discussing emerging themes provide opportunity for discussion and analysis. The textbook remains highly valuable core and recommended reading for postgraduate students of Strategic Management and Corporate Strategy, MBA and Executive MBA, as well as reflective practitioners in the field. Online resources include chapter-by-chapter lecture slides, two long case studies and short interviews with alliance executives.

Management of Alliance Networks by Włodzimierz Sroka,Štefan Hittmár Pdf

Effective management is crucial to the success of the inter-firm cooperation, and may reduce the risk that is inherently associated with these strategies. If cooperative strategy is to be successful, managers must have knowledge of factors that should be taken into consideration during formation and management of alliance networks. Therefore the main goal of this book is an understandable and simple presentation of the complexity involved in the management of alliance networks at three basic stages: formation stage, functioning stage, and post-operational stage. The book consists of six chapters, both theoretical and practical. A new model for management of alliance networks, which utilizes different instruments and tools, has been developed in the work. The last part of the book concentrates on the management of alliance networks in a practice-based framework based on the example of an engineering company which has formed a portfolio of bilateral alliances.
