Highway Noise by B. Andrew Kugler,Daniel E. Commins,William J. Galloway Pdf

A description of motor vehicle noise sources and the potential for their control is provided. The report presents an overview of the suggested noise prediction methodology, which is a four step process that includes approximating noise impacts using a nomograph procedure to determine noise levels associated with given traffic and site characteristics; refining these predictions by more accurate representation of design parameters and use of a computer program that is able to plot as well as calculate noise impact; introducing appropriate noise-control options and evaluate them, using a noise barrier nomograph solution; lastly, selected options are fully evaluated using the computer program.

Highway Noise; a Design Guide for Highway Engineers by Bolt, Beranek, and Newman,Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, inc Pdf

Various methods of assessing noise, loudness, and noise annoyance are reviewed and explained; sources, types, and intensities of traffic noise are noted; typical means of abatement and attenuation are described; design criteria for various land uses ranging from low-density to industrial are suggested and compared with the results of previous BBN and British systems for predicting annoyance and complaint; and a design guide for predicting traffic noise, capable of being programmed for batch and on-line computer applications, is presented in form suitable for use as a working tool. A flow diagram describes the interrelationships of elements in the traffic noise prediction methodology, and each element is discussed in detail in the text. The text is presented of a tape recording that takes the listener through a series of traffic situations, with such variables as traffic distance, flow velocity, distance, outdoors and indoors, and presence or absence of absorbers and attenuators.

Fhwa Traffic Noise Model User's Guide- by Cynthia S. Y. Lee,Judith L. Rochat,U.s. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration,Gregg G. Fleming Pdf

In March 1998, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Natural Environment, released the FHWA Traffic Noise Model (FHWA TNM) Version 1.0, a state-of-the-art computer program for highway traffic noise prediction and analysis. Since then, the FHWA, with assistance from the Volpe Center Acoustics Facility (Volpe Center) and Foliage Software Systems (FSS), have released updates of TNM (Versions 1.0a, and 1.0b) in March 1999 and August 1999, respectively. In support of the FHWA and the California Department of Transportation, the Volpe Center and FSS released Version 1.1 in September 2000. TNM 2.0 is the latest release of the TNM software. Two companion reports were released with TNM Version 1.0, a Technical Manual that describes the acoustics within TNM and a User's Guide. In addition, prior to TNM release, a data report was published that describes the vehicle noise-emissions data base within TNM. This document is an addendum to the FHWA TNM Version 1.0 User's Guide. It details the enhancements in the program up to and including Version 2.0.

Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment by Anonim Pdf

This manual provides direction for the preparation of noise and vibration sections of environmental documents for mass transportation projects. The manual has been developed in the interest of promoting quality and uniformity in assessments. It is expected to be used by people associated with or affected by the urban transit industry, including Federal Transit Administration (FTA) staff, grant applicants, consultants and the general public. Each of these groups has an interest in noise/vibration assessment, but not all have the need for all the details of the process. Consequently, this manual has been prepared to serve readers with varying levels of technical background and interests. It sets forth the basic concepts, methods and procedures for documenting the extent and severity of noise impacts from transit projects.

Update of TSC Highway Traffic Noise Prediction Code (1974) by F. F. Rudder,P. Lam Pdf

Modifications to the TSC highway traffic noise prediction code are described that include speed-dependent noise emission levels for all vehicle types considered by the code and the development of a users manual for the prediction code. Comparisons between highway noise predictions using the modified version and previous versions of the prediction code are presented. The evolution of the TSC highway traffic noise prediction code is described to indicate salient differences between the several versions in existence.
