Manufacturing Insanity - Vol. 2 - Dangerous Knowledge / The Next Religious War by Eva Moser Pdf

The treatment of transsexuals turns medicine into a system of well organized prejudice, cruelty and mistreatment. Patients are abused while the perpetrators are convinced that this is necessary, good treatment! In volume II of Manufacturing Insanity Eva contrasts generally accepted views of transsexuality with her own and interprets both views on the background of current medical practice. Eva then proposes a new model for gender and transsexuality and examines why any better or reasonable approach must be unacceptable to current medical practice. In the last part Eva proposes a better system for the delivery of medical services, one that does not leave anybody behind, one that does not accept the death of a patient just because that patient doesn't fit the expectations of the system! Welcome to Manufacturing Insanity!

Trans Experiences - A Research Report for Trans Communities and their Allies by Eva C. Moser Pdf

Trans communities are in the headlines. Everybody has an opinion on 'what transsexuality is'. But how do trans people themselves describe being trans? This community based study examined this question. Findings include that the diversity and complexity of people's experience by far exceeds what is commonly acknowledged. Physical embodiment and social acceptance are important to trans people, but the most unifying themes are self-finding, self-realization and spirituality. Experiences described cover a wide range. They can in fact be mutually exclusive. This suggests that any simplistic 'one fits all' explanation will be oppressive to at least some trans people. In a sad twist, the research finds that trans people who challenge the clinical model of transsexuality the most, are also the ones who most likely will not participate in clinical studies - thus guaranteeing that much of the diversity within communities remains hidden - except by community based research like the one at hand.

Madness and Civilization by Michel Foucault Pdf

Michel Foucault examines the archeology of madness in the West from 1500 to 1800 - from the late Middle Ages, when insanity was still considered part of everyday life and fools and lunatics walked the streets freely, to the time when such people began to be considered a threat, asylums were first built, and walls were erected between the "insane" and the rest of humanity.

Readings for A History of Anthropological Theory by Paul A. Erickson,Liam Donat Murphy Pdf

This comprehensive anthology presents 40 readings that are critical to an understanding of anthropological theory and the development of anthropology as an academic discipline. The readings have broad anthropological appeal, emphasizing social and cultural anthropology. The third edition has been completely revised throughout and organized to work more closely alongside the companion overview text, A History of Anthropological Theory. It includes six new readings as well as two original essays written by contemporary anthropologists on "Why Theory Matters." These new essays help ground the more abstract readings in the collection. The glossary has been significantly expanded and the discussion questions have been revised. The result is a volume that offers not only a strong foundation in the history of the discipline but also a good overview of developments in twentieth- and twenty-first-century anthropological theory, including feminist anthropology, postmodernity, medical anthropology, globalization, postcolonialism, and public anthropology.
