Unnatural Companions by Peter Christie Pdf

"Highly compelling...page-turning read" — TNC's Cool Green Science We love our pets. Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other species have become an essential part of more families than ever before—in North America today, pets outnumber people. Pet owners are drawn to their animal companions through an innate desire to connect with other species. But there is a dark side to our domestic connection with animal life: the pet industry is contributing to a global conservation crisis for wildlife—often without the knowledge of pet owners. In Unnatural Companions, journalist Peter Christie issues a call to action for pet owners. If we hope to reverse the alarming trend of wildlife decline, pet owners must acknowledge the pets-versus-conservation dilemma and concede that our well-fed and sheltered cats too often prey on small backyard wildlife and seemingly harmless reptiles released into the wild might be the next destructive invasive species. We want our pets to eat nutritionally healthy food, but how does the designer food we feed them impact the environment? Christie's book is a cautionary tale to responsible pet owners about why we must change the ways we love and care for our pets. It concludes with the positive message that the small changes we make at home can foster better practices within the pet industry that will ultimately benefit our pets’ wild brethren.

Beast Companions by John Foster Pdf

Despite their fame and reputation, dinosaurs represent only half the story of the Mesozoic Era. In Beast Companions: The Unsung Animals of the Dinosaurs' World, paleontologist John Foster explores the often-overlooked animals that coexisted with them. These ancient species, often equally remarkable as their dinosaur neighbors, can provide valuable insights into the biotic history of our planet. In some cases, these animals reveal just as much, if not more, about the extinct ecosystems of the time as the dinosaurs themselves. By drawing on a wealth of current and past discoveries, Foster embarks on a sweeping journey across 164 million years to visit the beast companions of the dinosaurs. Along the way, he examines fish, insects, the first frogs and salamanders, turtles, snakes and lizards, marine reptiles, crocodiles, pterosaurs, birds, mammals, and other animals of the Mesozoic Era. Beast Companions is a groundbreaking exploration of the story of these contemporaries of the dinosaurs that set the modern world in motion more than 200 million years ago

Companion For The Shell Collector by Sven Erik Gehrmann Pdf

This work is based on the WORLD REGISTER OF MARINE SPECIES (WORMS), which is an international platform of science. This includes the currently valid scientific names and systematics of our recent marine animals. This book presents more than 600 different species of marine and freshwater molluscs. It also includes some species of sea urchins, starfish and arthropods, bringing the total number of diverse species to more than 780. The work places the species in the context of their habitats, their survival and reproduction strategies, and their aquaristic durability, if live specimens can be obtained. This book presents both: The live animals for the vivarists and their empty shells for the collectors. Many of the species shown here are not common, unusual or even rare. In addition, some photos of original habitats and aquarium photographs round off the work. In passing, the book also comments on some current environmental problems, which are unfortunately usually not mentioned in conventional works on this subject. A very informative book, which should inspire reflection and action at the same time.

On the Aisle Volume 4 by Philip Morency Pdf

About the Book On the Aisle, Volume 4: Film Reviews by Philip Morency is the fourth in the series of movie reviews written by Philip Morency. This edition contains films ranging from the years 2013 through 2016, with some periodic “oldies but goodies” mixed in. Like Philip’s previous three books, On the Aisle, Volume 4 contains brief and to-the-point movie reviews that are geared toward the average moviegoer. It is not really written from a critic’s perspective, but from that of the average viewer. The reviews are simple and easy to understand. What is unique about the book is that it tells the synopsis of the film, then it gives the author’s opinion of the film, and then it lets the reader decide whether or not they would like to see the film. The films are rated on a scale of 1 through 5. There are also half-star ratings, such as 3 1⁄2 stars (VERY GOOD). The contained films are listed in alphabetical order, and for ease of reference, there is also a table of contents page. Enjoy... On the Aisle, Volume 4. Tanked by Wayde De King,Brett Raymer Pdf

DIVCo-owners of Las Vegas’s Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM) and stars of the Animal Planet hit show Tanked, rowdy brothers-in-law Wayde King and Brett Ryamer build some of the most enormous, awe-inspiring aquariums for top celebrities, luxury hotels and casinos, Fortune 500 businesses, and millionaire homeowners across the country, taking on tanks ranging from 50 gallons to 50,000. Jackass producer Jeffery Tremaine commissioned a two-ton salt-water tank for his man cave--and hijinks of course ensued. The guys kept their gloves on when the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship ordered the ultimate “Aquagon” for UFC headquarters. Then Wayde and Brett tried to beat the clock when Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade asked them to create a pop-up tank featuring his new Sting Ray sneaker at the unveiling party during NBA All-Star weekend. In the newest episodes, the guys bring their clients’ wildest visions to life with: a Cleopatra sarcophagus tank with fish from the Red Sea for an archeology-themed room at a boutique hotel; a retro rocket-ship aquarium for the headquarters of Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shop with candy-colored fish and fizzing soda bottles; a giant lava lamp tank that changes colors, glows in the dark, and features jellyfish; a smokin’ hot aquarium to honor Fairleigh Dickson University’s Devils with a lifelike fire element; and a slot-machine tank for a wedding chapel in Las Vegas. Tanked: The Book features detailed, in-depth profiles of ATM’s top builds, the inside story of how they climbed to the top of the shark-infested world of custom aquariums, fascinating profiles of the cast, never-before-told behind-the-scenes stories direct from the set, celebrity testimonials, and fun sidebars like “fish facts” and “tank tips” so everyone can get tanked at home. /div
