Hannah Arendt was born in Germany in 1906 and lived in America from 1941 until her death in 1975. Thus her life spanned the tumultuous years of the twentieth century, as did her thought. He entitled his autobiography "My Experiments with Truth", and described his life as a series of experimental episodes aimed at a just and moral social revolution with nonviolent resistance as his experimental method. Fox traces the roots of Gandhi's utopian ideal to nineteenth-century reformers and follows it through the successful nonviolent resistance to British colonialism.
