May All Beings Benefit by Buddhadeb Basu Pdf

This book brings together teachings by Buddhist masters and lamas about practices that can be done for or involving animals that will benefit both the animals and the people doing the practices for them. The teachings in this book are meant for Buddhists and nonBuddhists alike and are derived from interviews and oral teachings of masters and lamas teaching today as well as from written texts by Shakyamuni Buddha, Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, Jamyang Namgyal Gyamtso, Patrul Rinpoche, Shabkar Tsogdruk Rangdrol, and other historical masters. These practices range from refraining from eating meat to ransoming and releasing animals destined for slaughter or sacrifice. Lamas interviewed include Anam Thubten, Chagdud Khadro, Jigme Tromge Rinpoche, Kentrul Lodro T'haye Rinpoche, Lama Padna Norbu, and the late Venerable Lama Gyatso Nubpa. Teachings include those by the late H.H. Chadral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche; His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso; the late Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye; Sogyal Rinpoche; Thich Nhat Hanh; and the late Venerable Lama Gyatso Nubpa. -May all beings benefit- is a phrase found everywhere in Buddhism. When one has a genuinely beneficial thought or performs a truly beneficial action, one dedicates the merit created by that thought or action by saying, -May all beings benefit.- The purpose of generating good heart, good thought, and good action is not primarily to become a better person oneself but to enhance the goodness and survival of the planet and all its inhabitants. The soul of this book is summed up in this beautiful statement by Anam Thubten: -There is only one species in this universe and that is the species of sentient beings.- All beings are our relatives as offspring of the Earth, and, for this reason, we cultivate awareness of our interconnectedness and practice loving kindness. These are not just nice things to do, they are essential to the continued existence of our world. Awareness of and appreciation for our fellow creatures, whether they be our beloved dog or a spider living in the corner of the basement, expands our ability to be of benefit to all beings. The universe and all its beings were created by a wisdom vastly greater than the sum of human intelligence, and we have almost completely lost our appreciation for this creation in this age of technology, aggression, and speed. To return our attention and mindfulness to something other than man-made wonders is a key to discovering our salvation. To become aware of the suffering of creatures other than human beings will enhance our ability to be of greater benefit to ourselves.

The Life of Shabkar by Anonim Pdf

The Life of Shabkar has long been recognized by Tibetans as one of the masterworks of their religious heritage. Shabkar Tsogdruk Rangdrol devoted himself to many years of meditation in solitary retreat after his inspired youth and early training in the province of Amdo under the guidance of several extraordinary Buddhist masters. With determination and courage, he mastered the highest and most esoteric practices of the Tibetan tradition of the Great Perfection. He then wandered far and wide over the Himalayan region expressing his realization. Shabkar's autobiography vividly reflects the values and visionary imagery of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the social and cultural life of early nineteenth-century Tibet.

Jivamukti Yoga by Sharon Gannon,David Life Pdf

The long-awaited, complete guide to the popular, vigorous American method of yoga that is deeply rooted in ancient wisdom and scriptures “In this day and age of health and fitness trends, it is assuring to know that Sharon and David encourage their students to draw inspiration from the classical texts of Yoga and timeless scriptural sources. ”—Sri Swami Satchidananda Creators of the extremely popular Jivamukti Yoga method and cofounders of the New York City studios where it is taught, Sharon Gannon and David Life present their unique style of yoga for the first time in book form. As they explain their intensely physical and spiritual system of flowing postures, they provide inspiring expert instruction to guide you in your practice. Unlike many books about yoga, Jivamukti Yoga focuses not only on the physical postures but also on how they evolved—the origins of the practices in yoga’s ancient sacred texts and five-thousand-year-old traditions—the psychotherapeutic benefits that accrue with a steady practice, and the spiritual power that is set free when energy flows throughout the mind and body. Jivamukti Yoga, which means “soul liberation,” guides your body and soul into spiritual freedom, physical strength, peace of mind, better health, and Self-realization–the ultimate goal of any practice. Gannon and Life help you understand each of the practices that comprise the yoga path to enlightenment: AHIMSA–The Way of Compassion: choosing nonviolence, respecting all life, practicing vegetarianism, living free of prejudice ASANA–The Way of Connection to the Earth: postures and sequences, breathing, transforming energy, understanding the bandhas KARMA–The Way of Action: creating good karma, giving thanks NADAM–The Way of Sacred Music: appreciating the sacred sounds of yoga MEDITATION–The Way of the Witness: how to sit still and move inward BHAKTI–The Way of Devotion to God: living with love, grace, and peace Whatever yoga you practice, Jivamukti Yoga will help you to strengthen and deepen that practice and lead you onto a path of spiritual clarity and self-discovery. “If there is only one book you read about the practice of Yoga, this should be the one. . . . This book is for anyone who wishes to find transformation through Yoga. I’m grateful for their work and teaching.”—Stephan Rechtschaffen, MD, Co-founder & CEO, Omega Institute

The Relaxed Mind by Dza Kilung Rinpoche Pdf

In the late 1990s, shortly after arriving in the United States, it became clear to Dza Kilung Rinpoche that his Western students responded to traditional meditation instructions differently from his students back in Asia. The Westerners didn’t know how to relax—our pressured, fast-paced lifestyles carried over into meditation. The Relaxed Mind contains instructions for the seven-phase meditation practice Dza Kilung Rinpoche developed for students in the West. It’s adapted from traditional instructions to counteract the overwhelming distraction that is becoming a global culture these days, not only in the West. Experienced meditators may be surprised to find their practice deepening through letting go of tension. This is also an excellent meditation manual for any beginner.

Protecting the Lives of Helpless Beings by Geshe Thubten Soepa Pdf

Geshe Thubten Soepa offers a detailed explanation of what Shakyamuni Buddha said about eating meat as presented in the Buddhist sutras of the Hinayana and Mahayana vehicles including tantra. The explanation begins with an extensive look at the various sutras in which the Buddha discusses why Buddhists should not eat animals, includes a question and answer section addressing topics such as tantric practice questions and whether animal owners should neuter their animals and ends with a discussion of why eating meat or otherwise exploiting animals is completely contrary to the core Buddhist practice of compassion. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, read through Geshe Soepa's explanation from cover to cover and said "It is well written. It would be nice if more equally useful texts were written for people to read." This is a must-read from Buddhists who wish to support their practice of and advocate for vegetarianism. This book is made possible by kind supporters of the Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive who, like you, appreciate how we make these teachings available in so many ways, including in our website for instant reading, listening or downloading, and as printed and electronic books. The Compassionate Equestrian by Allen Schoen,Susan Gordon Pdf

This marvelous book, borne of a unique collaboration between Dr. Allen Schoen—a world-renowned veterinarian and author—and trainer and competitor of many years Susan Gordon, introduces the 25 Principles of Compassionate Equitation. These Principles, conceived by Dr. Schoen and Gordon, are a set of developmental guidelines, encouraging a level of personal awareness that may be enacted not only through the reader's engagement with horses, but can be extended to all humans and sentient beings he or she encounters. The 25 Principles share stories and outline current, peer-reviewed studies that identify and support methods of training, handling, and caring for horses that constitute a safe, healthy, non-stressful, and pain-free environment. Through their Compassionate Equestrian program, the authors encourage all involved in the horse industry to approach training and handling with compassion and a willingness to alleviate suffering. By developing deeper compassion for their own horses, and subsequently, all equines, equestrians transcend their differences in breed preferences, riding disciplines, and training methodologies. This leads to the ability to empathize and connect more closely with the “global collective” of horses and horse people. In doing so, a worldwide community of compassionate equine practitioners and horse owners will emerge, which will not only benefit the horses: People involved with horses are found in many influential segments of society and have the potential to affect wide circles of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers from every walk of life. These are simple changes any horse person can make that can have a vast impact on the horse industry and society as a whole.
